  1. I am surprised it has taken so long. The banks in Thailand has lent billions to the construction industry to erect unsaleable buildings. This is in part due to Covid but was a problem before the pandemic occurred as the property market has been in recession for years due to oversupply. If bad debts were correctly provided for then I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they have been trading while insolvent which is illegal. This is an accounting and enforcement issue so provides good opportunities for banks to show their appreciation.

  2. People in the UK are currently experiencing difficulties getting approval for their journeys to Thailand. Having completed all formalities and sent all requested document toThailand including paying for flights and  hotels for one day's quarantine but no QR code for their journey's approval is forthcoming. All the given phone numbers in Thailand do not answer except two have an automated answer saying there is no one there. People need to heed earlier advice about being cautious when planning to come to Thailand.

  3. Eliminating quarantine will not induce foreigners to come flooding back to Thailand. The government needs to view the prospect of visiting Thailand from the perspective of foreign governments who won't want their citizens to go to countries who have not established herd immunity. That means they might come if 70% of the Thai residents have been inoculated. I hear rumours that the Chinese Government may ban their people coming before herd immunity is achieved. No country wants their citizens to return from abroad with a high prospect of their bringing the virus back with them.

  4. With a population of 66 million then for 100% to be vaccinated it will take 13 months to complete. 100% will never be vaccinated but the restoration of the tourist industry will require herd immunity of, say, 70% being inoculated. So that will take until February 2022. By that time there will be nothing left to entertain tourists because all the facilities will be bankrupt so other than the historical reason for visiting Thailand foreigners will have no reason to come here. In short there will never be a grandiose tourist industry in Thailand ever again unless the herd immunity can be achieved by mid-year 2021. In short only 5 million doses per month sounds the death knell of 15% of Thailands GDP!

  5. The root cause of the atrocious planning is down to the poor quality of the Thai education system with many hours wasted on non-academic non-sporting activities, learning by rote, teacher is always right, no class discussion and no essays. In short the system does not encourage thinking or curiosity. The is not one geography lesson taught in schools which leads in insular thinking. There is science but no physics, chemistry or biology lessons so in depth learning is impossible. It badly needs fixing

  6. It might help if action were taken to attract tourists that don't travel by coach and actually go into shops, bars, restaurants etc etc because while tourist numbers as reported are good it is plain to anyone that isn't blind that the economy of Pattaya is collapsing. Just look at the number of businesses that have closed and are now shuttered. Mass numbers of Chinese just drive off the money spending variety of tourist that really help local people.

  7. This is illogical. If anyone wants medical insurance and they are young enough then they can simply buy a policy for themselves that don't need any government to force them to do so. Similarly we are told that expatriates are abusing the State hospitals. There is no need for Compulsory medical insurance to fix this; the State hospitals should make foreigners pay in advance or deposit a credit card before treatment which is what I had to do when using the Private wing of Chulalongkhorn for an operation. I paid over Baht400,000. This is what the NHS does in UK.

The reality is that this measure is solely a xenophobic administration's intention to drive out expatriates.

  8. Then the money spent is the biggest amount of money wasted on "education". Thailand's education is appallingly bad. The curriculum is completely skewed with too much emphasis on culture and not nearly enough on academic subjects. There are no physics, chemistry or biology classes only a combined Science course so the standard is woefully low. Geography and economics are not taught at all. What is taught is English, Thai language, Thai history, Computing, Mathematics and, as mentioned above, Science. The quality of the teachers is by and large substandard particularly for teaching English which accounts for why Thailand is the fifth worst English speaking nation on Earth. Stop teaching by rote, encourage class discussions and teach pupils to argue their points of view. More sport, especially team sport is needed as are extra-curricular activities such as art and music. So stop wasting taxpayers money giving children toys on which they only play games cut out the wasted time and get focused on what matters academically and recruit more teachers from abroad who are genuinely qualified for the task rather than loafers trying to get a visa to stay in Thailand. Then your money will be well spent and effective and not the huge splurge it is now.
