My Thai wife had her first vaccination at the beginning of June in Samui, where we have lived for some 18 years.
She was given an appointment to return for her second jab between 23 and 28 June. She went back to the same place that she had the initial jab and so decided to go on 24th June 2021 at around 13.00 hours.
She got there (at the university in Chaweng) and was told by the staff outside to go away and come back another day as they had run out of vaccine. She had some friends who she was fairly sure were inside so she rang them and they said there was plenty of vaccine and the nursing staff were sitting idly inside as the staff outside were letting nobody in.
She went back and they asked why she had come back. She told them she spoke to someone inside and there was vaccine. They were abusive but she is also quite strong and told them she wanted to check inside for herself. She got in and had the jab and as there was no queue she was in and out in 30 minutes including the mandatory rest period afterwards.
As she was leaving she asked the people outside why they told her there was no vaccine left – they would not speak to her. <deleted>? Just a bunch of jobsworths
So many times, particularly recently, I despair with this country. When I first moved here in 1996 it was not perfect but it was so much better than now.

Easily replaced with a 500 Baht note.
1000 for farang, naturally.
Why? A medical certificate takes 10 minutes and costs 150 baht where I go...

I have been working for the same company for 14 years - on my second work permit book now!

I am in the process of extending my o-Visa at the moment. I am currently in the one month 'under consideration' period with the applicable stamp from immigration. Possibly you can wait but why would you? All immigration offices are going to be madhouse from 1st August for a long period.

I believe it is valid for 2-3 weeks so since tomorrow is June 15 that should be no issue. That is how it is in Samui

I wasn’t going to bother but what the heck. The Dec 11 report (32.51 mio) was arrivals till 31st Oct.
11 hours ago, Misterwhisper said:Why suddenly make it a round figure? Just a week ago it seemed perfectly fine to make a lot of fanfare about the 38.26 millionth arrival.
Besides, only on December 11 it was reported that arrivals had reached 32.5 million. Provided that both total arrival figures are correct, that would mean an increase of a whopping 6.5 million new arrivals over the past 16 days, or an average of 382,352 PER DAY. How on earth does Thailand's woefully understaffed immigration department have the capacity to even process half of that? They already seem to struggle when two Boeing-747 land back to back. I just continue to believe that all these figures are deliberately doctored.
Even if it is from Oct 31st to now it still means a tourist arrival figure of around 114.035 people per day or 4,750 people per hour (24 hours per day) - that seems a tad high to me ????

My extension this year (due July 30th) didn't come through until August 10th - not much you can do about it but sit tight.

Depending on where you are living, there is a German guy who has lived here many years and does organised visa runs from Koh Samui to Kota Bharu called Herbert. He is extremely knowledgable about requirements from Kota Bharu as he does runs just to there and he advises all his clients what they need for the various visas etc.

I've had food poisoning exactly twice in Thailand. Both times after eating the same dish, Hoy Tod. It's freaking delicious, but doesn't seem to agree with me. Signs arose within the hour, vomitting, then all well. Imay giveit another go next time I'm back.
All shellfish are essentially water filters - that is how they get their nutrients to survive. The seawater is sucked in, passes through their digestive system and the waste is then flushed out. Of all seafood they are the most risky to eat because they retain a lot of stuff that is not good for people - cholera being one nasty aspect that one can catch from them.
In 24 years of living here I have been sick due to food a handful of times but the 2 worst were with shellfish. Haven't eaten them anywhere in the world for around 15 years now.
One of the worst places used to be the bay of Naples due to the untreated sewage that flowed into it but this was cleaned up some years ago now.
Thailand has a long way to go on that front sadly.

As I understand it you need to apply for a hotel license and then submit all the relevant documents.
The first item is to do with the build permit - most build permits are for residential use only - if that is the case that needs to be changed to show use for rental accommodation - there are various categories - check pugnatorius.com it will show you a number of the requirements.
You will either require a hotel license or an exemption for a hotel license but you need to have had it processed.
The cost for the licensing process is high - varying from 150k baht up to, one case I heard about, of 500k baht - these are for villa rental licensing purpose.

...Instead of doing that he took them to a quiet soi off the route - Viphawadee Rangsit 8 - and attacked them.
He took their Samsung smart phones worth collectively more than 50,000 baht and left them battered and bruised....
So how on earth does he claim he didn't mean to attack them. He took them to a quiet Soi with that intent and robbing them on top of the beating. No wonder tourism is failing fast in the Land of Smiles. ????

You couldn't be more wrong with that assessment.
"...I remember when they cared and offered personal advice".
They still do.
"They really have become the joke of foreign embassies in Thailand".
Nonsense, unless you're only referring to the usual bunch of Thaivisa irrational haters who love to spit their vitriol in the Embassy's direction. How have they become the joke of foreign embassies...specifically?
Hello, is that you ambassador?

If you have a credit card machine then AliPay and WeChat pay can both be put on it - my company is with Kasikornbank and we have both AliPay and WeChat pay capabilities. It took around 6 months to get it done, but it is possible.

Had Yai airport was using them at the end of March. Flew out and flew back in 4 days later and fingerprinted going out and coming back.
I believe it is only a matter of time before it is rolled out through the whole country.
It is 4 fingers of both hands and left and right thumb prints.

They also have them at Had Yai airport.
Came through there 31 March and it is all fingers and both thumbs - problem was the IO's had issues operating them - they only went in a couple of days before.
-
Had occasion to go to the Had Yai immigration office on March 28 and they were up there.
But then that was before he was transferred.

Those of us who learnt to drive at home understand that traffic flows faster and safer when people have courtesy towards other motorists, rather than pushing in and blocking other traffic, as well as to look at everything going on around you, right in front, 50m, 100m down the road too, plus the side roads. Locals don't do this when they haven't been drinking, so no surprise that accidents double when they do have a drink.
Very well said TER. To me, one of the best indicators of attitude on the roads here is the use of headlights to indicate to other drivers intent. In Europe (well certainly in UK) if a driver flashes their lights it is normally inviting you take the road ahead of them. In Thailand it generally means 'get out of my way I'm coming through whether you like it or not'. It is such a flawed thought process as in the western way it generally prevents accidents because right of way has been ceded by the driver that flashes but in the Thai way, if both drivers have the same mindset, then an accident is more likely to occur.

Which means 60% were caused by people not drinking. So the problem would appear to be sober drivers.

Neither have I had a problem with Lazada - many of the items are shipped direct from the supplier / shop and all Lazada has done is negotiate a good price and provided an online platform for them.

Latest Poll suggests two thirds of Thais believe Prayuth can get Thailand out of economic mess

I do not believe that a poll of 0.001% of the people can be seriously considered a representative sample.
Certainly not a Super Poll
