  1. The exchange rate changes sometimes as much as 8 times daily.

Kasikorn bank generally give the best rate on travellers cheques

Is it safe to say that

    1. All banks in Thailand will exchange TCs?
    2. Kasikorn bank in Bangkok and Kasikorn bank in Ban Dung will have the same exchange rates on the same day? The exchange rates don't vary from branch to branch, do they?

  2. T/Checks normally have better rates versus cash exchange at banks. The current rates will be posted around the teller window

or international exchange counters at banks. Just note that cashing travelers checks will incur a 1% service fee on the transaction

I had read (on this site, in fact) that the service fee was only 33 baht per check.

  3. It would help if you stated whereabouts in Krabi you want to stay.

Plenty of small beach places on the coast (not all with good swimming) or Ao Nang or the islands or the cheapest option is Krabi Town and take a boat out to the beach.

Highly recommend Season bungalows on Koh Jum.

The prices at Season bungalows seem almost too good to be true for Krabi. Can you tell me a little more (anything you can offer) from personal experience regarding this establishment? How far is it from the beach? Can you tell me anything about the area surrounding this place?

We were thinking about Ao Nang, but could be persuaded to stay elsewhere.

  4. If your intended is Thai and you would be providing a Sin Sod then custom is for the brides parents to pay for everything from this :)

customs seem to vary from village to village so this is not necessarily true. there are no hard and fast rules to sin sods, nothing written on stone tablets. Let's leave it at that since this is not a thread about sin sods and there are plenty of other long-drawn out threads on this site discussing sin sods ad nauseam.

Merely stating that the OP does not need to worry about cost as it is up to the Brides parents to pay for the wedidng, that is the custom in Thailand, same as most western cultures...

"the custom"? No, it isn't. As I already stated, customs, especially regarding weddings vary from village to village and also depend upon the situation in Thailand.

  6. Hello,

I'm looking to have a wedding reception in mid-January in Udon Thani. I haven't the foggiest idea how much this will cost, or how this compares to a wedding in the U.S. I expect there to be about 100 people. Questions:

1.) How much should I expect to spend... for the hall, the photographer, the videographer, etc?

2.) Does anyone have any recommendations from personal experience regarding reception halls, photographers, etc?

3.) How far in advance do I have to book everything?

My fiancee and I currently reside in the U.S. so we don't have the luxury of personally visiting locations or dealing with photogrpahers, etc in person.

  7. Hello. I recently applied for and was given a 60-day single-entry tourist visa. I noticed there have been claims that I need to show "Financial means (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family)". I can certainly do this, but I'm not very comfortable carrying that much cash on me at once. I've never had to show any money when I've visited Thailand before with a visa-on-arrival. What does this requirement mean exactly? Is it enforced?
