  1. Try these guys...they are quite a bit cheaper and I believe are on Silom:

    For your information...

The newly refurbished Sony shop in the Emporium shopping mall just re-opened with the new PS3 on sale for approx 16.000 baht (I think it's still cheaper in Singapore) or 17,000 and some change for PS3 with an extra controller and a game . They couldn't even tell me what region it was for but at least the choice is finally here to buy a copy with a Sony guarantee (if you need it).

After looking at their website it also looks like now there is a Thai section in the playstation store. Things are finally moving...oh the joys of living here!

Hmm, maybe I am better to buy it in Schipol when I pass through tomorrow. Thanks for the info on prices.

  2. Just curious if there's anyone here who recently purchased an HD TV (720 or 1080p) in the 42 inch range, and are aware of any good current or upcoming promotions at any retailers in Bangkok--HomePro, PowerBuy, etc...

Also, I recently saw a 42-inch, 1080p model from TCL at Big C for 20,000. Understand that they do a lot of manufacturing for Philips. Would buying this model be a big performance compromise?

  3. Maybe just update your DVD player :D for a new Philips that has all the latest codecs, USB, all the regular Video outs, HDMI & 5.1 sound out, for not much more than 2000B and be done with it! :)

Note: Don't forget that the place that sells you the DVD player & LCD TV is usually the worst place (price wise) to buy a HDMI cable from. Another thing to keep in the back of your mind is that HDMI cables are quality graded and bandwidth sensative, or so I have been led to believe.

Does this Philips do subtitles that go with avi files (sub or srt) and what is the model no? Thanks.

  4. The low 4000s sounds about right. I checked in March this year and it was hovering about 5,000. I was originally planning on getting the 6300 and came across the Nokia 5130. It's one of the XpressMusic phones, so you may find the red or blue a bit garish, but it has all the features of the 6300 plus a standard headphone jack. Sound quality is definitely superior to my iPod. Best of all the price is about B3800 at the powerbuy in Chidlom.

  5. I'm interested to know if any four-star, branded hotels have slashed rates in Bangkok in lieu of the political hiccups. Interested in something near a skytrain stop in central BKK (preferably Sukhumvit or Ploenchit) for a 4-day stay in mid-December. Any recommendations out there?

    Thanks,

    Alex
