Can the 60 day extension help with getting things in order before the very short time available to get ready for a 1 year extension request, like the 2-3 month 400,000 baht bank account requirement?
The 400,000 has to be in the bank for 2 months every time you apply.

How many reports on this forum have been of people legitimately volunteering their time to teach English, who have gotten into trouble?
I suspect there are zero such reports. I also suspect there are zero reports of people volunteering at orphanges that report any issues.
There would be such a PR nightmare if anyone volunteering their time to teach village kids or orphanges got fined/jailed.
Is is technically illegal? Sure, so are many things most of us do daily.
I think you old farts on this forum need to stop reading the law literally and focus on the spirit of the law.
Nobody is going to get in any trouble teaching local kids some English for no compensation in an informal setting.Very naive .
People helping during the tsunami 13 years ago were arrested.
Never ever work illegally.

As said, You need a visa if staying for longer than 30 days.
-
Your Visa is valid until it expires.

90 days stay in Thailand.
Is it really that difficult?

I very much doubt that a week would be long enough to obtain the items needed and then apply and receive a O-A Visa.
You would probably be better off applying for a non Imm O Visa and extending in Thailand.

You need two sets of everything.
One for Udon and one for head office.
-
You can apply up to 30 days before. 45 days at some offices.
The Embassy will just require proof of your income.
Apply by post and pay a rather large fee.
-
You can extend by 12 months if you qualify financially.
You can extend by 12 months or 60 days if you have a Thai family.
-
They are accepted up to six months old.
-
Yep. Wife needs to be with you once a year for about an hour or less.
No much of a hardship.
-
Arrive with a single entry Tourist Visa.
During the last week or two extend it at Immigration by 30 days. 1,900 Baht fee.
A day before your 90 days ends you can leave the country and visit a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country and get another Tourist Visa and extend this again at Immigration.
You do not need a return flight as you have a Visa.
Leaving the country and returning without a Visa will get you 30 days which can be extended at Immigration by 30 days.

Joe. I commend you for your confidence but we all know that they think a little differently to us.

Just keep trying and you will get one.

My only worry with continuing with the Marrieage option would be if they changed the financial requirements.
The last time this happened the retirements requirements were Grandfathered.
The Marriage option was not.
This makes me think that getting on the retirement ladder would be safer and protect me from future increases.
Apart from that I have no problems following the Marriage route.

I have an extension of stay based on my Non O Visa. Yes.
No. You have an extension of stay based on living with your Thai child.
The Visa dies years ago.
-
So you do not have a Non Imm O Visa.
You have an extension of your permision to stay.
-
The Marriage option is not as difficult as some on here will have you believe.
In fact it is quite easy.
However, if you qualify for both, Immigration will push you towards retirement as it means less work for them.
It is also a little easier for you and your Wife.

There is no combination of income and savings.
400,000 Baht in a Thai bank for 2 months.
OR.
40,000 Baht monthly income.
-
Go around a week early.
-
I very much doubt that you obtained a "Visa" from Chonburi Immigration Office.
What you probably have is a 12 month extension of stay.
-
You can easily apply for the extensions every year at immigration in Thailand.
A Non Imm O-A Visa is applied for in your own country and gives unlimited entries for a year.
Each entry gives a stay of 12 months.
Police reports and medicals are needed for this plus financial requirements of 800,000 Baht or 65,000 monthly income or a combination of both.
Easier to arrive with a Non Imm O Visa and extend in thailand.
40,000 baht per month.
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Income of 40,000 a month or 400,000 in the bank for 2 months is the rule.
