  1. The Red Shirts have failed the Red Shirts. No revolution can succeed when the individuals have no clear idea what they are trying to accomplish and expect the leaders to do the thinking for them - it's recipe for exploitation, not liberation.

It reminds me of an old episode of He-Man about leadership. The moral was not only the importance of being a good leader, but being a good follower.

"You never have to do something you know is wrong just because someone tells you to," said He-Man.

It's too bad Thais don't watch it.

  2. Didn't Thailand just withdraw from peace negotiations? Now they want the US to broker peace negotiations?

Yeahhh! That is correct. There is another thread on that very topic running in conjuction with this one.

Yes, I heard something about this on Aljazeera English a few times. But, I am not sure if Cambodia pulled out of negotiations or just Thailand? We might even see it might ejaculate into a full blown conflict between both countries.

Cambodia is experienced at fighting a conflict; they just got finished with two major conflicts. The Vietnam War and the Khmer Rouge period war (1975–1979). That makes two recent wars. Number of wars in recent history has Thailand been involved with =0, except their own internal political issues.

"Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay, reporting from Korat, says that each side blames the other for the violence"

    Thai-Cambodia border clash flares up again - Asia-Pacific - Al Jazeera's...

Being taken over by Vietnam 30 years ago makes them experienced? At, what, losing? And 30 years ago is only recent in geologic terms.

    @trisailer

Have you even read the Art of War? It's about winning without action - not manipulating elections by starting pointless skirmishes!

  3. It's not online that you will find the best prices to fly from Thailand.

So...where is it then? A magic talking squid in Chumpon?

If we're going to be cryptic, how about these gems:

    Two wives need three hands.

A snake never sleeps in a drum.

A stone never greets its neighbor.

    Many rivers, one goal.

    One river, many currents.

A thousand angry men is less angry than a single man angry a thousand times.

To many rights make you dizzy.

Walk not in another man's shoes, for you leave him barefoot.

Eat with your eyes closed, sleep with them open.

    ....any more?

  4. Isn't this this same schlemiel who "doesn't respect farangs?"

And his criticism of the cruise line is ludicrous. The tuk-tuk drivers have about as much right to scam cruise ship passengers as I do. *Libelous statement edited out*

When the passengers do get scammed, they blame the cruise line (and could easily sue them - and win) and then guess what? The cruise line avoids Phuket next time.

His comments about foreigners scamming foreigners and Thais and foreigners scamming foreigners is pandering to the Thais listening who might bristle on the notion that they are anything but a nation of honest, hard-working, racist licentious hypocrites.

At least the leadership is maintaining the standards of ineptitude.

  5. Buy one with decent product reviews and a good graphics card, like a GTX460, HD5850 or similar.

Actually come to think of it I've seen MSI laptops with such cards. I don't touch laptops but if I did I'd probably get one of those.

  6. Come on guys, in this world economy things are more expensive. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it! Stop the whinning. Just stay closer to home. :whistling:

Maybe you like being the butt-boy of the Universe, but some people would rather work on mitigation strategies. That includes understanding the characteristics of the problem.

And not everyone travels so they can enhance their photo collection or fill their diaries with self absorbed tripe. Often that unpleasant thing called reality dictates when and where you will travel to - the only thing you get to choose is how you get there.

  7. Fewer aircraft, higher fuel, get use to it.

It's irrelevant if we're "used to it" or not - money may have subjective worth, but it has objective value.

That means if I have $900 and my purchase is $1500, I am short by $600 and cannot buy the ticket.

I can't call up the airline and use my "used to it" waiver and get a discount, can I?

But yeah, I can't find anything less than $1300 to SFO or LAX round trip.

I'll have to check out this Kayak. Do I have to paddle?;)

  8. The biggest problem with laptops aren't specific to any brand - it's that the components are proprietary, non-user serviceable, expensive, and difficult (or impossible in the case of the GPU) to upgrade.

They also must take performance shortcuts to extend battery life. Every nanowatt is an instruction (or several, or a piece of a instruction) executed, but also heat generated and battery drained.

People often end up using their laptops in the same place, over and over again. If that place could accommodate a desktop, then that's a better buy.

  9. @happyrobert

I suggest you run memtest86 - that will tell you if your RAM is bad.

Thais don't understand RAM issues at all. They think that if the system boots it means the RAM is fine. Often they re-use bad sticks that should be thrown away.

    1. Google memtest86.

    2. Download the .iso disc image.

    3. Burn it with imgburn to a CD

    4. Boot from the disc.

If it comes up with any errors, you'll know it's that.

  10. @theseahorse

I went to Foodland first and noticed that the price was 10 baht per can higher - strange, I thought. I didn't purchase any because it was 4:05 P.M and I remembered that silly law.

Then when I returned I noticed the store downstairs in my building (which sells at all hours) had raised the price as well.

    May you be right...theseahorse. :passifier:
