Those commercial entities/billionaires  already making a huge amount of profit (openly dodging tax payment) will be the primary targets.

Otherwise, they just end up as wasting huge amount of time and labor by the end of any tax years.

What is the point of chasing around not-so-affluent foreigners for little or no gain.

    Exactly.

No need. The agency that ensures that Thailand gets the required information already exists and is called OECD. Thailand is just leverages that one, it joined the CRS scheme in 2023 with the first reporting conducted on financial information covering 2022. If they hadn't joined, they actually would have been bullied by the rich countries ('grey tax jurisdictions'), since the point is that the rich countries get information on all the global bank accounts and incomes of their tax residents. The associated hacking skill is called CRS, where banks / financial intermediaries automatically are legally required to report to the foreign tax authorities based on TIN. Thailand is simply leveraging this infrastructure created by other rich tax desperate countries. The concept was initiated by Obama (FATCA) to ensure US citizens can't escape paying tax on their foreign inome. The concept was then picked up in principle by all countries that are OECD members (CRS/AEOI).

That makes sense. Sheer naivete on my part.

i assume Thai officials keen to chase down and assess will prioritize cases by estimated revenue to be harvested rather than attempt to go after every single individual.

As far as I am aware "NO".

    February 2024:

Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 8 – There was no mention of the reopening of Preah Vihear Temple access for Thai tourists during the bilateral talks between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on 7 February 2024.

Jean François Tan, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister spoke at a press conference on 7 February 2024 after Samdech Thipadei concluded his official visit to Thailand.

Two interesting issues back in 2023; (a stumbling block?)

if the Cambodian government agrees to reopen the border, which would allow Thai and international tourists direct access to Preah Vihear Temple from Thailand, Cambodia retains the sole right to sell tickets to the ancient site.

“This is to acknowledge our culture and recognise Preah Vihear as part of Cambodia to tourists,” said Phea, “Temple guides must be Cambodian and Thai guides will not be allowed,” he said.

Phea added that this condition is to ensure that Thai guides wouldn’t introduce incorrect information about the temple to tourists.

    Thanks for this.

Does anyone track the current high scores? What's the longest overstay ever?

I knew a German in Chiang Mai who overstayed 13 years. This was well before the Thai gov't established the ban system for excessive overstays, so when he finally had to leave Thailand to attend to affairs in Germany, he simply paid the fine at the airport, and came back a month or two later. I lost track of him after that, so don't know if he continued with another overstay.

  5. "Powered by ChatGPT" according tothe website's home page.

Also, the 100 beaches list on the actual website doesn't include Pattaya. The three Thai entries are Railay, Phra Nang and Pileh Bay, all in Krabi. Pattaya comes in a separate article, "Golden Beach Award 2024".

AI travel journalism. Not to be taken seriously anywhere.

  6. I'm planning to cross from Mukdahan to Savannakhet on the evening of Wednesday March 13th. My flight gets in to Nakhon Phanom at 16:25/4:25pm, and a taxi from the airport to the bridge takes about two hours, so I should arrive at the bridge by 7 pm.

I know that the bridge is open till 22:00 daily, but will the Thai and immigration posts on the bridge still be open at 19:00-19:30? Anyone done an evening crossing there in the last year?

I would spend the night in Muk and cross in the morning, except I have to be in Savannakhet by 21:00 that night for the Savan Fun Fest.

    Thanks,

  7. A few years ago, while visiting Udon, I came across a relatively short street that was lined with shophouses serving as offices for several molam troupes (khana molam).

I'm heading back to Udon next week, but can't remember where the street is exactly. I believe it was off Makkheng Rd near a large wat.

Can anyone based in Udon help me out? Thanks.

he must have paid beaucoup bucks to get out of prison in Nepal. He married a Nepali princess in an effort to get out but the maoist government didn't fall for it no matter how much he paid/which some officials accepted happily. He lived well while in the prison and his heart condition is more than likely paid for too, A Nepali friend found the bloodied clothes of one of his victims in the trunk of a rental car when it was returned in Kathmandu. It was key evidence when he was convicted years later.

    Extradition? 100%

He doesn't appear to have paid anything. He served 19 years of a 20-year sentence in Kathmandu. The majority of prisoners sentenced to life in prison in Nepal - which in Nepal's justice system is a sentence of 20 years - are released after 14 years.

Authorities released him a year early due to age and illness.

Be under sixty and work a year or two for a Thai company/institution in which you're enrolled in Thai SS. Upon leaving, retain the insurance and keep up the monthly payments, about B450 a month. Just got a free comprehensive eye exam from an ophthalmologist/retina specialist yesterday. All good!

    Thanks
