  1. Interesting comparisons between BKK's restricting and SG's expanding nightlife...! :o

The Straits Times: Sat Aug 19.

"LIVELY CITY MEANS MORE TOURISTS AND JOBS:

WHOLSEOME AND ORDERLY PLACE NO LONGER GOOD ENOUGH FOR A NEW S'PORE" Lee Kuan Yew

"The Singapore that we had - very orderly, very wholesome, very clean - is not good enough." Singapore must aim to inject more fun and buzz and create a lively night scene that can make it the "Paris of SE Asia" Mr Lee was encouraged by what he saw at Clark Quay during a recent visit. "People wine, dine and drink till four or five in the morning at the weekends". Tourists nowadays enjoy entertainment such as the topless cabaret show Crazy Horse and the popular nightspot, Ministry of Sound. "So we must have more of these" he said.

  2. Hi all.. :D

Many thanks for all your support and kind words..! I've enjoyed it - even thru the occaisional wrangling.. :o and I do think TVisa has the most thoughtful and insightful group of members on Gay Thailand that I've seen on the Web....

I'm proud to have Moderated you all...! :D

You'll probably hear from me again... somewhere someday...

  3. Just a couple of weeks after its "Grand Re-Opening", the Freeman Dance / Cabaret venue in Soi 2/1 has suddenly closed. The notice on the door says Closed for Renovation"

They went thru a period of firings (or rather encouraging the staff to sign a pre-written resignation letter 3 weeks ago..) to reduce their overheads, in particular the main Thai Comic Lead "P-Day", who has now lead a very visible (on Thai TV) action to take the BBBGroup owners to Thai Labor Court.

It seems that the extensive and expensive renovations did not result in customers staying for more than just the Cabaret show - which was also tried tried twice a night, when the police would allow. Some nights there were more staff than customers.

My own feelings are that they should have closed and renamed it during the renovations.. to try and give it a new image. Otherwise you can't shake the Thai's perception of what it used to be...

This is a shame, because I feel it was a high-quality cabaret show during its hey-day. DJ station has one too, but it doesn't really come close for quality. The Freeman Cabaret show performers have scattered to several different other venues now.

Ahh, the end of an era. :o

I wonder what it will become next?

  4. Compared to many Western countries - where being gay is a BIG problem for the vast majority... the "non-issue" of being gay, and of being completely accepted by the general population in Thailand makes it a "paradise" - at least in some sense...

  5. What was the cost for the agent's part and what was the timing from application to delivery of visa ?

Also if I may did your BF really have an average of 100.000 in his bk account ?

The agent's fee was 24,000B... up front.

We submitted the application to VFS on a Thursday, and got the passport/visa back the following Tuesday.

Nope, he really had about 55,000Baht on average in his account.

  6. The end of the Saga...

Today May 2nd, my Thai Bf picked up his approved 6 month UK Tourist Visa..!! :o

First, the new VFS procedure was relatively sane and pleasant... (see my post in the main Thread about VFS..)

Second, did we actually NEED all the items we collected, in the end..? We will never really know.

The one thing you DO need to have when you go, though.. is a signed xerox copy of the Thai applicants passport... (even though it doesn't SAY that... VFS insist.)

Lastly, my "Legal Agent" I used was "Siam Legal".
