  1. I'm looking to replace the mattress that came with my condo (6 years old). The one I have now (queen) probably goes for between 3-5000 (maybe closer to the lower end of the range). I'm looking to spend up to about 10,000. I've checked HomePro, Big C Klang (a few more than half off from 20,000+) and some outlet on Suk. Where do you think I'll get the best value? I've been told that a pocket spring type might be worth it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

  2. I realize that the holidays followed here are different than in the "West", but can anyone recommend where I can find a Father's Day card in Patts. I've tried a stationary store across from the Post Office (Soi P.O.), Big C on Pattaya Klang, Tesco on Sukhumvit, all with very limited or no success. When I lived in HK I had no problems finding any type of being card in the various stationary/book shops. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

  3. Get it fitted with the external tanks, works extremely well on my cannon and then just top up the tanks when required, so very easy and cheap

I only print a handful of items per month/year, thus an external ink tank would be overkill. I'm ok paying 50 baht (200 total) for a cartridge refill, but not 100 (400 in total)! Unfortunately I couldn't get it done here in Pattaya (Tukcom)...
  4. I went up to BKK for the weekend and decided to stop by Fortune IT Mall on Phra Ram 9. The first shop I went to asked for 900 to refill the set...perhaps they misunderstood me and gave me the price for a set of new cartridges. The next place only wanted 50 each, 200 total. I'll see how it works once I get back home...hopefully no issues.

  5. Some of the Internet cafes offer scanning and faxing services.

I've sent several faxes from an Internet cafe on South Pattaya Road. It's on the south side a little up the road from Tukcom, sort of across from the beginning of Soi Buakow. Sorry I can't remember the name of the shop, but it might have a red sign.

The cost was calculated by time not page (30 baht per minute?). I sent a not very dense one page fax and it took a bit over one minute. I think it ended up costing me almost 2 USD...outrageous IMHO!

I was sending my document to a financial institution who wouldn't take my email with a scanned attachment. However, they later said that if I attached it to an email sent thru THEIR online messaging section, then they would except, since it is more secure than my email.

  6. once again try the little stall outside the paint [ TOA ] / hardware shop on north side Theppasit right near lights at western (beach) end. He seems to fix anything electrical.

I tried to find this place today, but was unsuccessful...I think. Coming from Jomtien towards Pattaya, I made a right at the light (Thepprasit). On the left (North) side a few stores after the corner was some sort of paint and or hardware store with a small Kiosk in front. I enquired about fixing a fan but was told that they don't do that. The guy told me there was a shop a hundred meters up on the same side...but I couldn't find anything. Any thoughts?
  7. I have a Brother multifunction home printer. It uses four seperate ink cartridges, black and three colored ones. I went to Tukcom today to have them refilled and the first guy asked for 150 each, 600 total just to put a small amount of ink in each one (they are NOT large cartridges!). The second guy wanted 100 each, 400 total. I did it there once before about a year or so ago and thought that the total cost was 200 to 300. Does anybody know the approximate cost to refill these cartridges? I hate getting ripped off! Thanks in advance. Cheers.

P.S. Sorry, but I don't have the exact model number handy

  8. I did mine about a week ago. When I picked up the form from the ladies in the front they told me I needed a pic, However, when I actually got to the immigration officer to hand in paperwork, he gave it back to me and said I didn't need it.

If you have one handy, just bring it, but I'd say you don't need it.

  9. ...with respect to Konini's attached vid about the UK financial situation:

The self promotion aspect aide, I could have been convinced that the subject country was my own, the US. In fact it could apply to most of the countries in the developed world...big government, the welfare state, entitlement mentality (which leads people to make liberal use of unfettered credit), etc.

The one thing which wasn't touched upon is the fact that the world has changed drastically over the last few decades. The developed world now has competition and not just with other lib-dem developed world economies, but with many very capable up and coming developing world economies (ie. China). IMHO, a significant part of the reason for the success of the developed world has been the lack of competion. About 85% of the population resides in the undeveloped (third world) and developing world. After so many years of not being able to pull their thumbs out of their asses, a substantial portion has now gotten their act together (by taking on many of the lessons which we learned long ago) and are now providing serious competition...but at a much lower wage/price point! The future for the developed world economies looks anything but rosy!

  10. Why does such an anecdotic conflict make people who are not directly concerned so passionate (from either side), in Europe, America...even Asia now. As far as Thailand is concerned it's not even sure the guerilla in the south doesn't kill more people than these middle-eastern trifles.

Very different security challenges, but around 2,600 non Muslim killings attributed to the militants in the past 10 years in the deep South. In the same period approx 300+ Israelis killed due to Islamic terrorism.

    http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/casualtiestotal.html

And around 4,000 (mostly) Muslims killed in Palestine & Lebanon due to Israeli state terrorism

Sorry Simple1 I know that you're normally reasonably fair and knowledgeable about the region but the above is blatantly one-sided.

4,000! ...that's a pretty slow week in the Arab Muslim world of terror.

Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, not to mention the smaller and less known religions (ie. Bahia). China, India, SE Asia, Noth Africa, sub Saharan Africa, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North America, South America. Houses of worship, hotels, malls, restaurants, coffee shops, cinemas, hospitals. Beheadings, crucifixions, gang rapes, medieval torture...for starters! ...nothing is off limits, no red lines!

Hell, they can't even get along with each other...and I'm not even talking about the 1300? year old Sunni/Shia divide. Even the Al Quida types couldn't get along/wasn't extreme enough so that this ISIS group had to step up and out do them.

Just look at the culrural norms in the Arab/Muslim world. Honor killings, female genital mutilation, forced marriages (including VERY minor children...Mo's bride 9 y.o. Aisha), acid throwing, treating woman as chattel, killing of gays, blatant discrimination of any type of minority (ethnic, religious, etc). A general backwardness and evil, or at least meanness.

The only thing worse than these mental rejects are their supporters, appeasers and apologists...especially those in the developed liberal democratic world, usually amongst the uber-liberals and leftists.

  11. Do you mean the annual road tax? This can be renewed at Big C South on Saturday mornings there is also a sub office near to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. The former prints your new disc there and then , the latter take the paperwork to the main office and you go back to them after 1630 to collect. (Mon to Friday)

I assume "annual road tax" is the same as what I refer to as annual registration/insurance renewal (when I have to buy insurance[?] from the little shop across from the motor vehicle office).

For the Saturday morning only option, where exactly is "Big C South" and what is the exact times that it is open? Do I buy the insurance there too?

With respect to the M-F option, where exactly (near BPH) is the sub office located and what is the timing for the morning paperwork drop off? Do I buy the insurance there too?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

You assume correctly - question, how can you renew the registration as it is already registered ? As long as you have the registration book the vehicle is registered period - what you need every year is the Road Tax.

...in the US, or at least in the ones I know about, vehicle "registration" is considered to be for one year only and thus must be renewed annually...simply a matter of semantics. Cheers.
