  1. I write a letter directly to the school or, in the case of participating schools from the US, I send your information to a clearinghouse, which has a computerized record of attendees of schools. Usually, within a matter of hours--up to a day later--I receive a response which gives your us the relevant information about you and your agree. If I have to write directly to the school, then it takes a little longer, usually a couple of weeks at the most.

The school and immigration will begin processing the paperwork without the verification. You will get the appropriate visa may be issued the Work Permit without it. We had a young lady who had a similar situation. For a number of reasons, she had her official, certified, stamped transcript, but had not been issued the actual diploma. We had minimal trouble getting everything including the work permit. The transcript did state she had completed all courses for a Bachelor's degree. We did have to explain why we didn't have the degree, but that was all.

The officers that handle the paperwork for our school are quite experienced, which might make a difference. Another area may be less experienced, but you are qualified and that's the important part and the degree will come.

Thank you for your response, that was very helpful, now, are you hiring? :)

  2. You should have no problem. The problem with fake degrees has made the actual diploma less valuable and reliance on the transcripts more valuable.

I have to verify every degree anyway, and the verification is important.

so your saying just a letter w/ a university seal on it. again not a diploma, or a copy of a diploma. plus transcripts is enough? - my official diploma i suppose could be mailed to me from my home country but again that would take over 3 months, want to work sooner than that. what goes into the verification process for you?

  3. Ill be graduating in dec, headed over to bkk a few days after. My school takes 3 months to issues a diploma. They will give me a letter with a university seal on it saying i graduated. plus ill have my official transcripts. can anyone for-see a problem in the hiring process or work permit process if i apply directly to schools w/ the letter and transcripts but not the official copy of my diploma?

  4. In Thailand they would prefer you to teach instead of observe the teacher and many schools will be happy to throw you before the lions without any experience.

I'm not sure I understand you clearly. I thought it was a criminal offense? is it an offense that's not taking seriously? Are you saying its easy to show up well dressed, w/ degree, cv in hand and be able to volunteer teach a couple weeks at some of the schools on the tourist visa?

  5. How does one go about getting volunteer esl work for a week or two. maybe like assistant teach/ observe. I will be arriving in bkk w/ a 4 year university degree, however, my only experience is a small amount of part time tutoring here in the US. Just wondering how realistic it would be to arrive on a tourist visa, and volunteer for a week or so. since this is volunteer, im sure a wp is not necessary...?

  6. I have a question regarding getting money from a usa bank to a thaibank via paypal. I have a usa bank and a usa paypal account. once i am in thailand I'll set up a thai bank account and thai paypal account. can i pay myself in paypal to avoid bank fees? The steps would be transfer money from usa bank account to my usa paypal account. Fund my thai paypal account email from my usa paypal account. once the monies in my thai paypal account transfer it to my thai bank account. any body try this? fees? problems with logging in to usa paypal account and paying your own thai paypal email address? (basically paying urself) problems loggin in to a USA paypal account to pay ur self because of IP address in thailand? Conversion fees within paypal from a usd usa paypal account to paying a thai baht account?

  7. There does not appear to be any logical pattern to the red stamp process.

One possible way is to travel out every month BUT FLY BACK to Thailand. You got 30 days every time and costs less than 5000 Baht, in some cases even less. I don't know any restrictions in 30 day visa exempt entries...

any issues or restrictions with this option? would avoid a lot of forms/ hassles. could you possibly just keep buying return trip tickets and showing up back in the airport the next day? what about the "your only supposed to be in thailand 180 days out of a year" rule?

  8. There is no reason you can not obtain a two entry tourist visa from Vientiane now - enter for 60+28 and then 60+30 for second entry taking care of six months. After that you will have to check again. A work permit is only issued for a qualified job from a Thai company and a non immigrant visa will be required at that time (application of work permit/company paperwork). But to get to that time Vientiane two entry seems to be best.

thanks for you response. so what your saying is, it makes no difference that i "used up" my 30 day stamp on arrival in bkk for the application for a tourist visa in vientiane? basically they overlook that i am already in bkk for 30 days?

  9. Yes i have read and searched many, many posts and threads, but keep hearing different things about red stamps, different countries to go to,etc. every time i think i have a plan, i read or some one tells me something different or a new country to apply in or a new way to apply for visa. it gets so confusing.

Current situation: I am on the 30 day stamp that you get when you arrive at the airport and it is running out. this is my third time in thailand this year, all other times have not exceeded 30 days and i have never applied for a visa.

What I want to do: Stay here for an additional 6 months on tourist visa, then after the 6 months, apply for a work permit.

current plan was to go loas by plane, walk into the embassy and get a double entry, then use the 30 day extension in bkk. then after that 90 days, go back to laos and do it again. Shouldn't get any red stamps doing this? can i come back to thailand once i get the visa in laos, right after i use up all of the remaining 30 days only that i have now? any problems with this? can i renter thailand as soon as i get double entry? any better way do this? should this be a tourist visa double entry? or non O double entry?

when I am working 6 months from now, the work should take care of the work permit? do i pay for the fees of the work permit? but will the current visa situation i will be hopefully on (double entry visa of tourist o non O immigration) affect the work permit status?

thanks any help or info is appreciated

  10. the thing is, i keep reading many posts and many threads, and even some of that long page stickman bangkok has and every one says different things. most make it seem like its a cake walk to get a job for a young white guy with a bachelors degree in anything, and i was unsure of the details so i posted. why should i not come? i would do my best to teach the kids and what i lack in official work experiance i make up in dedication. i just didnt know the exact details on where to get started, if i 100% needed tefl course or celta and wanted someone to iron out some of the wrinkles. like is there an option to come to t-land on my next holiday and observe other farang teachers, so i could see what classrooms look like and whats to be expected?

  11. hello, i recently graduated with a BA in History from a pretty good American university. I have only been to t-land once on holiday. i keep reading different things and hearing different things about the state of teaching English in t-land. some say degree is required, some posts say just randomly come to t-land and you'll get a job easy etc. are things like a resume required? i have no work experience in teaching, and my last 3 yr work experience has been odd-jobs here and there, with no real way to put concrete work experience down on an official resume. that being said i would like to teach in t-land. English is fine, but is there a way to teach European or American history, or is this even a subject in t-land schools?

anyway, i dont have a clue as to where to get started and if i need some type of tefl degree. do you get it in t-land? is a celta better or mandatory? what are these people doing and where are they going that they randomly show up and get 30k baht jobs with no degree and no experiance? I also heard that you have to be carefull becauce some schools promise work visas but then don't give them out/ some are shady etc. when i go job hunting should it be in t-land on the 30 day passport stamp, or contact the t-land schools from here in america and have them sort out a work permit before going?

    basically I'm confused :D

I would really like to teach in phuket if thats possible, 2nd choice would be on or as near to sukhumvit in bangkok.

    thanks for any info :o

  12. Try the grand business inn on Soi 11 right next to the BTS station ...although i was with the wife i saw others taking extras with them. New hotel, large rooms, clean, free internet, fridge, aircon etc ...standard room 1600thb

    TS

Good call. Soi 11/1 also has the Business Inn, Bangkok Inn and Narrys Inn, all below 1000 BT, clean, cable TV, fridge, guest friendly and central to Nana/Asoke.

any of those have fast reliable internet in room for laptop? lan or wifi. and also one that you can feel comfortable leaving ur laptop

  13. Ive read through some threads trying to figure this out, but this stuff can give anyone a headache!

i'll be Bangkok last week in jan. then in phuket trying to stay for ~ 3 months

    1. All i'll be arriving w/ in terms of documentation is a passport, and a return flight ticket within 30days, (a ticket in which ill obv switch to 2+months later, but idk what else to do bc i guess coming from the usa u need to show them a return flight if u only have passport?)

2.Would it be difficult to get a first time visa in the first few days upon arrival in Bangkok, for 3 month+ stay, or is this not gonna realistically happen b4 the 30 days that a passport allows?

(can't get that double entry visa here in USA in time b4 the flight)

    thx! :o
