  1. as matt just said in the PM, i was confused by the name, i've been contacted by optim not by optim WIFI, they have the same name but the first one is doing websites and pocket maps.

    sorry for any false hope.

    Thanks definitely a different Optim.

I have been informed from several sources this afternoon that the owner has definitely left the island, leaving behind some very unhappy customers.

  2. Does anyone know if this 13 week thing is 13 weeks in one year, or could one fly in and out at the 13 week interval and still retain their pension payments.

You may get away with this for a little while lioness........but after a period of time doing this you would be deemed a "non-resident" for centrelink payments and your payment would cease.

Once you are deemed a "non-resident" it then opens up the door for centrelink to recover previous payments made to you. That is if they backdate the decision (non-resident) to when you started your frequent departures / arrivals.

Once you get into this situation it becomes a minefield :o

I belive one TV member has been through this drama (cant remember who) and may shed further light.....

I don't need to "get away with anything" as I am not on a pension. It was just a question, as I know of someone in this situation.

lioness, if you had stated this in your post, I would have structured my reply accordingly.

Apologys for touching a nerve whilst trying to offer an answer to your question.

    Thai Chi,

He does not deserve an apology at all. He should have done the decent thing and thanked you for taking the time to reply.

Mate, and he was supposed to know that because?????

A lot of your posts have to do with a "friend" wants to know, don't they. You posted one a few days ago about "a friend of mine wants to know".

Why dont you let them do their own homework if you are going to be such a grouch//

  4. I met a girl in Pattaya some time ago. Plain and simple, she was bargirl, but we had a good time together for a few weeks. I contact a mob in Pattaya called Key Visa Company, spoke to some Brit who said he could garantee a tourist visa for her for 40,000 baht. When I asked how they could garantee he told me that they were connected with the Australian embassy. It didnt matter that she didnt have a legit job or savings because they take care of everything. Sounded way to dodgy to me, and anyway I moved on from Pattaya and the girl too. Glad I didnt fork out the money.

  5. Gasohol is crap.

    Stick to 91 octane.

It's even written on most bikes and in the manual as well. The manufacturers of the bikes know what they're doing.

Go tell Jonathan at Easyrider you filled his bike up with Gasohol and see his reaction... he he...

I mix the two 50/50 Gasahol and 91. Make my Honda Dream go like the clappers. Did the entire ring road in less then 25mins.

  6. Magic, lays a guy out then complains he was set on. guess the English culture is well and truly with us

    Easy nonthanburial,

Before you start having a go at this guy. If you want to talk about culture, he was getting hammered by three thai guys at once. Not exactly a fair fight. Hows that for culture or should I say cowardice. Which is so typical of so many thais. True, I didnt see how it started, but those thai guys certainly got what they deserved for being cowards. Anyway, just my view.

  7. i think im going to be leaving lamai that place is no joke

i got in to a fight last night in fusion and it werent even my fault.

i stood on some thai girls foot last night by accident and she went mental i tried to say sorry and some thai guy grabbed me.

i lamped him on the jaw he went straight down then then a couple of other thai guys came over i manged to put one of them down before the other layed one on me i had to run man

they chased me pretty far and luckily i hid from them. it took me a while to get home as they were out looking for me i'm so luck they didnt get me

i dont think i can go back there - does this happen all the time here or what?

did anyone else on here see it?.. it must have been about 2.30 or later as id been drinking in one of the bars all ngiht and they shut it down around 2.30 then i went to fusion.

    Ark.

I saw a huge commotion there, closer to about 1.30am though. Some huge roided farang tanked to the max, swinging punches in all directions. No doubt the same incident.

I would be careful alot of those Thais are muay thai boxers and not very smart at that. Combined with a bit of alcohol they are quite lethal.

I have only been here a short time myself, too crazy for me as well... Too much agro on Samui.

  8. After some 9 months of 'buck-passing' my request for a volunteer visa based upon my work in Phuket, a letter from the Big Police Boss in BKK seems to have done the trick! Today my application for this visa extension was accepted by Phuket Immigration, visa application fee paid and a 30 day 'under consideration' stamp placed in my passport. The application will be sent back to the Big Boss to confirm all is ok and then I will be issued with either a 90 day (renewal) extension of stay, or a 1 year extension.

This will make a big difference to my current circumstances which involves fortnightly sponsorship of Andaman Club casino :o

Now, just in case some people thinbk that they can run off and join the police volunteers, and be immediately granted this type of visa extension - it is not so! For Phuket, the volunteer must work for at least 1 year prior to their application. must have a squeaky-clean record of regular volunteer work and their application must be supported by their Thai supervisor. Renewals of this visa will be subject to the same criteria.

I'll let you know how it all goes. I'm hoping to make SJ's day by getting a WP for this volunteer work :D

    Simon

Well done. But is it worth going through all of that for an extended visa? I guess if you like the work it is worth it.

  9. This really feels like a put on,i cannot believe anybody would post crap like that, surely?

    Good point Tritex

But then again that is probably how you would expect an 18 year old spoon fed teenager with nil life experience to behave. Thailand might just be the place for her.

  10. "OMG, what the <deleted>. My blog has somehow found its way on to some Thai website" :o:D:D

" I could walk straight into a job in Sydney and earn in a week what I would get in a month in Thailand" Please tell me where I am on the first flight home

  11. I feel sorry for her students and their parents, most of whom spend a large percent of their monthly incomes so their kids can get a education at a "good" international school... only to have a 18year old brat teacher that thinks of her new students/school as the "Thai brat camp"...

Its teachers like her that give all you other english teachers a bad name

    Good post. Well put.

With any luck she might be staying around Nana :o PRICELESS :D

  12. redscouse - she's from OZ mate.

yeah I was editing the same time as you were posting, I wrote the wrong country :o but still, she is not from the UK

Probably Ozi or Kiwi. Everyone calls it GAP now. I use to call it bludging for a year before going to uni.

  13. Bay Breeze soi honey, B800 free fast wifi in room

Thanks for all the recommendations. Have just got back from Pattaya. Stayed at the Bay Breeze, was actually 700baht, but what a disaster it was. Foolishly I paid for my three nights in advance. Shared the room with about 50 cockroaches, several of which ran across my bed a few times. The highlight must have been the pubes on the toilet seat though.

The only positive was the location ....

    Rick

    ps. The wifi sucks too

Youve 2 posts desperately looking to meet Austalians when youve only been away for 5 minutes, now i can understand you may miss some Aussie food and Aussie sports and maybe your mother, but why would you want to travel 1000s of miles only to hang out with people from your own country, maybe try mixing with other nationalities they wont hurt you.

Good Advice, have met some nice people from the US and Canada of late. Just not too keen on mixing with Thais on a social level. If truth be told I find them to be extremely boring and uninteresting. As for only been away for 5 mins. Well 1/2 correct. Have only been in Thailand for a couple of weeks, but have just spent 5 year working on an oil rig off the coast of Malaysia. Most of my previous R&R was spent in Cebu.

exactly I WOULD STAY IN AUSTRALIA IF I WANTED TO BE WITH AUSSIES

Up to you. Your choice. I would probably stay in Australia if I wanted to meet Aussies like you however.

  15. My 2 friends was leaving there 2 bags outside of reception the area is fully video surveillance .

1 hour later when they come back and get bags and check in to room. . they did see that about 20.000 THB was missing ,

And did talk to managment and they say they wanted to look the video surveillance of that area. .the respons was. . video surveillance aint working cant overlook it :/

So the staff in reception and managment seems to work togheten and stealing customers money ! So stay away from this Resort at all cost you have been warned.

And my friends did not have enof time to get police involved.

Sorry to hear about to loss, but come on, leaving 20,000baht unattended, even if under the watchful eye of someone else is just plain silly.

  16. The Apex, Honey Inn, Honey Lodge and many more are all about 600 baht with swimming pool and safe and English TV. Should be no problem.
Recommendations, circa 500 Baht per night:-

Nids Guesthouse, 2nd road next but one to Tims agogo (nearly opposite Mike shopping mall).

    Sa Apartments, soi Yamato (13/1).

    Tuks, soi Yamato (13/1).

Remember these are not star rated accommodations. They are clean, a/c, TV, fridge, en suite places suitable for seasoned travellers. Wimps looking for room service should go elsewhere although "room service" is always available. :o

Sorry I don't have phone numbers but they will sort you out no problemo amigo..

Thanks guys, am adding them to my list.

  17. Hi There,

Hope some of you Pattaya locals can help me out with a bit of info. I am new to Thailand, have been in BKK for a little while, and am going to head down to Pattaya for a few days just to check it out. Who know's may stay for months.

Anyway, will I have any luck finding some decent accommodation for around 800baht +/- a night. By decent, I just mean clean and comfortable.

Anyway, would greatly appreciate anyone's advice. Thanks in advance.

Give it a few nights for the big NYE crowd to clear out, then it should be no problem.

Good idea, I was thinking of coming down end of next week anyway.

  19. This disaster is just insane. Now imagine something like that would happen to one of Bangkoks most popular fire traps (MBK).

Chilling, I was only thinking that a few days ago when I was buying a phone there. If there was every a place where I have felt uncomfortable, MBK has to be the place.

  20. A couple of months ago, before I came to Thailand, I read a story about an elephant getting run over and killed on a busy street in Bangkok. Apparently it is illegal for them to be there in the first place, but the mahouts pay the police, and everyone turns a blind eye. Then it was just an elephant that paid the price for pay-off to those in authority. Don't get me wrong, that was a tragic event, and it saddened me very much.

Fast forward a few months 60 killed in a blazing inferno, and I am hearing that maybe local authorities were paid off, turned a blind eye etc etc, to safety concerns, fire exists etc.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that greed and corruption does not just kill baby elephants ....

    Just my thoughts anyway.
