  1. I hope he does not start fighting or shooting people!

    This is a disgrace.....

Five years for more trains??? Who are they trying to kidd? That isn't a plan, that is a mean joke, on the riders.

Who cares about more commercial space? Is there a problem with people not being able to find a place to shop in Bangkok? No, I didn't think so.

The problem is the service on the Airport Link and people need a solution NOW, not in five, or more, years.

Since when is development of the surrounding area at Makkasan station a Transportation Ministry subject matter? Why is the transportation Ministry involved in development issues at a particular station? Moreover, if development occurs at Makkasan, it will make the poor service even worse because of the increase in ridership.

It seems to me that the Transportation Ministry still does not understand that the Airport Link line is a commuter line for local workers and residents. The huge majority of riders are local residents going to work, shop, or leisure who need a convenient, predictable, and timely train. Tourist make up less than 10% of the ridership.

If the line becomes more rider-friendly for locals, it will automatically become better for tourists.

Thais: you deserve much, much better than this.

  2. I have eaten f&c from the new Village Chippy. I was pleasantly surprised. I preferred their basic meal at B.120 for quite a generous portion. The fish used is John Dory, and I thought it better than their more expensive cod. The Chippy also serves a variety of pies. Give it a try!

I tried The Village Chippy last night after returning from the UK for more than a year.

It was excellent I have to say.

The Staff speak English, The Place is spotless and just like a UK style Chippy.

I had the Large Fish and Chips (Dory) and my Colleague the Steak and Kidney pudding with Mash (Cream and Butter in it) and Garden Peas and Gravy.

    First Class.

They also serve Asahi Draught Beer 50 Baht Half Pint and 90 Baht Pint very cold and crisp.

I had not heard of the village chippy before I read it on this thread.

They are doing a great job and apparently a UK Style Chinese Restaurant is opening next door soon and a Rooftop Wine Bar/Beer Bar called The Terrace.

Easy Parking and Quiet location for a Chippy but it was very busy.

I found their website with Map.

    www.thevillagechippypattaya.com and facebook page also.

Good luck you guys you deserve it.

  3. Having returned from the UK after nearly a year and having read many many threads about this Fish and Chip shop on the net I decided to go there with my Wife last night.

I can only say it was excellent.

The Place is spotlessly clean, The Fish and Chips albeit Idaho Potatoes not local ones were delicious.

The Curry Sauce was Exactly! Quote Exactly like in the UK.

    The Mush Peas also.

The waitress handed me a large Laminated Order menu so as to make our ordering easier but in fact she like all of the staff spoke english.

The price at the end was also very very competitive.

I will visit the other new F&C's in the near future.

Keep up the good work management and I see you are opening a fully blown Chinese Restaurant and Take away as well as a Wine Bar Terrace above.

    All good for Pattaya.

  4. There was a topic on this subject I believe but I cannot find it again doing a search.

Anyone that knows both Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai can compare the two? Which is nicer, more beautiful, more pleasant place to live etc. ? Pros and cons of each?

I came to live in Thailand in the Mid Eighties.

I lived originally 22 Km south of Measi when Measai was a Dodge City type of a place with an old rickety bridge over the River and any Exotic Bird or Animal could be bought

from a stall the Thai side.

Then came the advent of bigger roads to Measai and Chaengsaen.,

Most of the Farang in those times were people who outstayed their welcome anywhere else in Thailand and probably still do!

Chinagmai was once a very nice place to stay but when someone pumped alot of false spondulicks into the place it killed it off.

The Roads and Infrastructure are just not adequate to deal with the now horendous Traffic Problems they have!

I would think given the Plus and Minus of either I would still go for Chiangrai.

Cool Climate, Not too long Traffic Jams, and a slower way of life but be prepared to meet former Benidorm Millionaires who had to move!

  5. Hi

Does anyone have any idea how I can get a Thai number to forward to skype or other Voip provider?

    Thanks

I f I understand you correctly then any Landline or Mobile Telephone in Thailand is a suitable number.

I use my Mobile number and my landline number.

  6. Obviously the Snake who resides in the Middle East apparently and other areseholes in this society if we can call it that percieve that it is ok to own as much land and prooperty outside this land as upou posibly can and because or the a holes who run Britain certainly allow that especially in Park Lane and formerly just off the M6 motorway.

But Oh No we only have the space the size of France with a population the size of Britain ugh!!!!!!!!!!!! How can we let you Farangs steal (Oops! Sorry) Buy our land or Build a House co's if you did not know Farang this is a one way street!

No foreigners found violating law on buying, renting farmland in Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Concerned Thai officials will continue monitoring whether foreigners have violated law on buying or renting farmland to engage in agriculture in the kingdom although initial investigation found that such a practice does not exist, Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot said on Saturday.

Mr Alongkorn said an investigation had been conducted in 20 provinces nationwide by Commerce Ministry Business Development Department officials and it was found that no foreigners had either bought or rented farmland over the limit set by law to continue farming in Thailand.

However, the ministry will continue monitoring the sector and seek cooperation from owners of agricultural land, and members of the Thai Farmers Association (TFA) for help in monitoring the activities of foreigners who may have entered into the business, he said.

Farming as an occupation is reserved for Thais only and the probe was conducted following an outcry by some farmers that foreigners have bought numerous plots of farmland here and hired farmers to provide the labour.

On Monday, the ministry will ask the Department of Special Investigation to continue probing whether foreigners have bought or rented farmland through business registration or a joint investment with Thais, said Mr. Alongkorn.

The ministry will also cooperate with TFA president Prasit Boonchuey in investigating the matter, he said.

He said Thailand will ask Bahrain’s Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa during a meeting with his Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva Monday to buy Thai agricultural products or enter into joint investments in farming.

Sheikh Khalifa is scheduled to arrive here Sunday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of the Thai government.

The embassy will get you a new passport.

Then you must go Sua Phlau in BKK to get visa/entry stamp and new arrival card.

You should be somewhere in the Computer systems.

    For the WP.

    Talk to your company/lawyer.

edit: bino, you are totally right.

    and a faster response. :o

I have a British Passport which i lost when in the UK!

I replaced it in the UK but I am told here that my 1 year visa and work permit cannot be changed over to my new British Passport even though I have Photocopies of my Old Passport, Visa etc

    What can I do?

  9. I beg to differ!

On their website they boast 1 million sold and these are PF Correction Devices.

There is alot of rubbish sold on Thai Market stalls but i hear of one company who have invested heavily in producing a Quality alternative.

  10. KPK Supplies sells tins of mushy peas plus things like branston pickle, colemans mustard, ambrosia creamed rice etc . In the soi going past the side of carrfour towards lukdor.

Exactly the same as The Farang Connection, same supplier in fact T.I.N. of Bangkok. PM me if you want Tony's number. We in the middle of the jungle do other items that are widely sought after as well, like OXO cubes, Birds Custard, PG Tips & Tetleys teas,Vegamite, Heinz Salad Cream, Colemans cook in sauces and lots more.

Is T.I.N a Wholesaler in Bangkok we are looking to buy Bulk Bags of marrowfat Peas

  11. I was pleased to see that one member (Papatsorn) enjoyed the fish and chips served at Pat's Pies on Third Road. I tried it for the first time last night and was immediately taken back to Surrey (England) where I always treat my sister to a fish supper at her local "Superfish" (an upmarket local chain). Pat's Norwegian cod is the real thing and generously sized;the chips she serves are out of this world. I wish she'd tell me how to make them as the ones I do are reasonable but nowhere nearly as delicious. The fish batter was very tasty, crisp and completely ungreasy. Just to complete the picture, Pat uses real newspaper to wrap the takeaway, not appalling polystyrene boxes. Last but not least (this is beginning to sound like an ad!), she provides home made tartare sauce.

There's a rumour doing the rounds that Pat's Pies is going to be converted into a proper fish'n'chip shop. I hope this is true.

I have heard that there are a number of Fish and Chip Kiosks opening in the Pattaya Area shortly with Prices from 90 Baht

  12. I agree Neeroys used to be such great value and good portions but lately the portions are diminishing and not at all what they used to be.

With the downturn in tourism and the value of the Pound many people have started going there but if they keep on serving measly portions they will lose the good name they always had.

Neeroys on Soi Chiapoon does an excellent english style fish & chips - 99bt... very nice.

I've had the fish and chips at Neeroys a couple of times and found the fish to be good but the batter is not crisp.

Must have been an off day for them

Neeroy's has nice crispy batter normally on their fish and they give you a pile of the batter scraps on the plate, along with the fries chips.

Two other places on Soi Chaiyapoon I would recommend for fish & chips:

-Canterbury Tales does a nice job.

-Seaside Two at the opposite end of the soi.

I just had lunch the other day at Simon's Fish & Chips, and was surprised to see that the large fish & chips with mushy peas is now B310 ... about nine US dollars(!). Quality was so-so: fish was fine, but not just the peas were mushy, the chips were as well.

I miss The Chippy that used to be around the corner inside Jomtien Complex by the Hideaway Bar.

That's a silly price for food in Pattaya IMO.

I can go out for a fish dinner here in the Midwest on a Friday night and get a salad, soup of the day, garlic bread and a huge plate of fish & chips for EIGHT DOLLARS! :D Good quality food all the way in a pleasant setting.

Considering wages, taxes, utility costs and overhead there is something wrong with that picture! :o

  13. Hello I had large bills also until recently and I bought 2 of the devices Trashed on Thai Visa but they actually work.

Energy savers from a Shop in Pattaya and they posted them to me by ems.

Just plug in they said and all appliances which have Nor resistive loads like Motors, AC, Refrigeration etc will achieve savings.

I think the shop is called Nice Things look it up on Google.

    Hope it helps.

My electric bill is running at about 10k a month. Whereas, my neighbours is only 4k per month. We both seem to have about the same electric needs (swimming pool pump, air con in two rooms at night etc), but my bill is double his. In fact, he leaves his outside lights switched on all night, and I turn mine off about 10pm. I did wonder if someone was skimming off my meter and had it checked by a local. He says the meter is clean.

The only thing I can think of is that my ceiling lights have halogen light bulbs (about 4 lights per room), while his uses the energy saving bulbs. But could this really be the reason for such a big difference?

Suggestions appreciated before I switch to my own personal generator! Just kidding.

  14. Hello

    Try www.ecobrand.net

They are in Nonthaburi I think.

I have Googled electric bicycles and they seem to be outside of Bangkok. Are there any shops in Bangkok that sell these? I think it would be very convenient for me to ride one out of my soi to the BTS.

The "golf cart" that drives me out seems to run pretty slow so I don't think it would be that much of a difference for me if I ride a bike except that the service ends at 9 PM.

  15. I have read with interest some of the adverse comments about Gary's Bar and Restaurant!

I cannot agree with any of them but it takes all sorts to make up the Frang community in Thailand.

I buy the Excellent Range of Pies from Gary and have them sent down to Pattaya.

We knew before he moved to Surin how good his food was and his Pies are indeed the best I have tasted in Thailand and having lived here for 24 Years I have tried many.

Good Luck Gary for 2009 and beyond.

    Hi

Ventured a short distance out of Surin yesterday to the above location.

Coming across the main cross-roads towards Chong Chom, you turn right midway between the row of shops, then right again (back to point on the opposite direction and at the Highway24).

Its the first of 3 ferang bars before a tyre shop and wood yard(on the corner).

Gary has a suprisingly extensive minimart with many ferang goodies. Cannot remember the last time I saw wine gums! :o

The South African red wine in gallon boxes was delicious (1000b)

Pies/pasties are made on-site and look good too

My group had a good cross section of meals (Thai,Indian,Fish n Chips, Chicken Kiev) and ALL meals were very good and priced lower than I have grown accustomed too. :D

Gary was a good host and I would definetly recommend a visit out to Presart.

Only got the other bars to check out now :D

    :D

    Dave
