nice pictures ........... I know what you mean, my baby boy does the same thing to my world .......

  2. I noticed the development Samujana was advertising a recently completed house on one agents site for 85 million baht, on another agents site i noticed a resale of one of the homes from that development for a reduced for quick sale price of 52 million baht, obviously someone desperate for the cash trying to unload, probably at a loss.

Samujana's developers and others that own houses on the development must have choked when they saw the advert, even if they didn't expect to get 85m, if someone is selling a house almost the same for 52m it kind of kills the illusion that those homes are worth anywhere near 85m.

As for 'who would be stupid enough to buy million dollar homes on Samui'...believe it or not some people do like Samui and some of those people are wealthy enough to have a million dollar holiday home or first home in some cases ... but on the whole it's mostly investors looking for a good return and up until a couple of years ago going back several years they had very good returns, which is why the money kept flooding in. There is always going to be a point where the cycle of boom stops and collapses to some degree and there are always going to be the unlucky, the greedy or the stupid that get caught out when the collapse comes, the market will bottom out and the cycle of investment and boom will begin again much the same as it does in England and the States.

Could be a resale by owner and have nothing to do with the developer. I had a client like that and pointed out to him that on one site his villa was around 40 mill at another site it was 28 mill. He just changed his mind a lot as he didn't really want to sell it and told different agents different things. Not really a smart move.

  3. I'm ready to have a fence built on my house but I haven't seen a design I really like. So I'm asking TVers to post pictures of nice fences they have seen. Basically a concrete stailnless steel combination that are common throught Thailand. If I like the design and use it to build my fence I will send you 1000 Baht by whatever method is best for you. So post your pics and win! Contest ends September 15th.

Don't need the money but would like to have a beer if u are around. This is a pic of my fence at the end of the construction (last year):

  4. If you pay her child support then they wont be living in poverty and I have to wonder what qualifications you have to say that abducting the child is better for him than staying with the mum. 3 sides to every story, hers, yours & the truth !

I was thinking the same thing. Okay, he would not be able to see his own son but I believe family values are thought here very well in Thailand. If I was in the same situation, I would pay child support, but thats just because I know my son will be taken care of very good here. I do not want to raise my son back home where everything is consumed by materialism and money and where too many young kids are too spoiled and do not have respect for anything anymore ........

  5. Like others say, it depends on a few factors.

I got my Chanote for 850 sqm (just over half a rai) a couple of years ago at 85,000 THB. It is 17km outside CR in a small village, paved road, electricity, next to a school, just under 1km from main road.

  6. I'm trying to find out if there are any big companies from The Netherlands with branches/offices in Thailand but can't find a way to get this information. Does anyone know where to look? Moderators probably do not allow posting of websites so if you have any usefull information, please PM me.

Any information on this is much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Rockwood is similar to Conwood which is available in Thailand. What I've heard is that Rockwood uses better materials and it's stronger than conwood but I believe both are ok.

thanks Rhino. thought as much. i used the locally avaible material for my pool ceiling.

You have a ceiling on your pool what Luxury! Is it air conditioned as well?

hahaha .... sorry I just had to laugh .......

  8. Heard from a friend that a few days ago on Chaweng beach there was an accident involving those *amn jet skis. He said the rescue/ambulance people were performing CPR on a foreigner who had come off his jet ski and was hit by another following just behind. At the time of the accident I heard 3 ambulance sirens. Why not provide helmets to their customers ?

Don't hire jet skis here. It will almost always lead to an expensive problem.

The real problem with use of any recreation craft on water is one and only,- no basic knowledge of rules and lax enforcement of such rules.

I live here virtually on the beach. Hundreds of boats, fishermen, speedboats, rowing, etc break all the rules. The usual arguments of TIT are not applicable, because the Maritime Laws are universal for all countries and Thailand is no exception.

I have a boat operators licence for powered and/or sailing craft. Being a responsible person I tried to have it officially registered here. I was told it's soooo complicated ( by the relative authority), that I gave up.

What the poor sods didn't realise, is that holding this licence and being a member of ORC Australia, I do not need their boody permission.

On the other hand, their speedboaties with banana in tow are a real menace. No licences, no knowledge of basic rules. All this means one thing - people die and will keep on dying on water in Thailand. And the fact will be always described as 'unfortunate accident'... What a pile of crap!... TIT :)

Do you really think these tourists think of helmets, universal maritime laws, licences and rules the very moment they mount a huge inflatable banana?

  9. 1 Rai = 1600m2

    1 Talang Wah = 4m2

    1 Rai = 400 Talang Wah

    From here http://www.towncountryproperty.com/measurements.php

    URL removed per forum rules

    1 talang wah = 4 square meters

100 talang wah = 1 ngarn or 400 square meters

    1 rai = 4 ngarn or 1,600 square meters

Another way to look at it is that:

    1 acre = 2.5 rai

    1 hectare = 6.25 rai

thanks all very help full, because I just bought a house with 83.5 talang wah, very nice piece of property in a gated area.

So that is 334 sqm. Nice. With gated area you mean you bought within a community/residence? As I'm always interested in these kind of things, is it possible to upload a picture?

PS I bought my 850 sqm here in Chiang Rai 4 years ago for 85,000 THB, best deal I've ever made!

  10. @ Valjean:

I agree, I need my space too, thats why I made a whole wing for me and my wife alone when designing my house (it has a bedroom/bathroom/workroom with fridge and terrace all for our own usage, this is where I get my privacy when needed)

  11. Student uniforms 'too sexy'

Country's top two universities order clampdown

    VeryShortSkirts.jpg

Funny that the Youtube video link posted earlier has these same two girls, in exactly the same pose, but wearing substantially longer skirts (see at 2:02 of the video)! So who has been doing the Photoshopping???

breasts of the left one are bigger too ....... lol

  12. Hi,

We are building a small house in the garden. We are planning to put in 2 big wooden windows (each consisting of many smaller windows). We had a local carpenter give us an offer. He says 38000 baht for materials, work, 1 door, paint. The only thing not included is glass. Is this a fair offer or not?

Included here are the illustrations of the windows.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

seems a bit expensive ...... I had my whole kitchen built for 30,000 THB at 16sqm. maybe get some more quotations and compare prices, that's probably always the best before accepting. Also: how sure are you about his work? Have you seen his previous work?

Also check if he is really busy at the moment. I know sometimes they're too busy with other jobs so they'll raise the price, this way they don't worry if you do or don't take the job from him as he is already doing good business.
