2 hours ago, PingRoundTheWorld said:Because people are stupid and think vaping is like sucking on candy. It's not- it's exactly like smoking and sometimes even worse. The high-end devices and vape juice (eww) may be slightly less harmful than cigarette smoke, but the cheap mass-market devices contain various substances that may actually be more harmful.
The biggest problem isn't people slowly killing themselves with smoking - IMHO let them do what they want in privacy and designated smoking areas - the problem is that vaping is being used as a substitute for cigarettes in designated non-smoking areas. A venue I often go to has a huge "no smoking" sign on the wall, and people will freely blow that **** in your face without a second thought.
Vapes need to be legalized, regulated (remove the mass-market ones with cancer-causing substances from the market), and treated like cigarettes by venues and users. That means NO SMOKING means NO SMOKING - vaping in no smoking areas needs to be banned and enforced. Also more effort needs to go into educating the public that vaping isn't harmless, and secondhand smoke from vaping isn't harmless and needs to be regarded as smoking.
Not sure where you are getting your information, but vaping is far less harmful than smoking... 95 percent less harmful according to independent, highly qualified global researchers, such as Public Health England, which actually DID the research that proved it. Vaping is for adult smokers wanting to escape deadly combustible tobacco. Banning vaping serves no useful public health goals, denies adult citizens of their human right to health and simply entrenches deadly cigarettes in the market. Useful for TTM perhaps, but of no value at all to smokers and their families, or public health. It is common knowledge that around half of all Thai politicians vape, inluding our beloved PM... one rule for them, another for the rest of us apparently...

Glad to hear there is some encouragement for punctuality in this country. My Thai girlfriend is always late for everything and doesnt seem to care about it. The 4 kids in her charge are routinely late for (state) school and there never seems to be any come back.
Is this a private or state school?
Private school

I would like to know if it is legal for a school to give a student detention on a saturday in Thailand, and if so, do any Thai schools actually do this? If not, why not?

Covid is in control, not Anutin. Regardless of how you feel about this - or any - government, modern humanity is facing unprecedented challenges as a cosequence if the pandemic and I defy anyone to come up with any policy or action that could ensure essential services, incomes, jobs, health, basic and enhanced freedoms, human lives and compassion are preserved that hasn't already been tried in nations around the globe. As long as the majority of people remain sheeple there will always be room for diehard verbose, bombastic, manipulative, dangerous 'leaders' to control them. Just ask Putin.

What would be the point? F1 is no longer broadcast in SE Asia, and hardly any Thai people I know follow or care about F1, and worldwide interest in the sport is declining daily after the fiasco of 2021. Thailand has a lot of better options and essential services to invest its taxpayers' money in.

As Fox Sports is not broadcasting in Asia after October 1, is there any way other way to watch Formula 1 live in Thailand?

More pointless posturing and garbage to make it look as if something is being done when in reality people continue to get sick and die needlessly because of the government's inexcusable failure to act decisively and effectively. If the bloody website ThailandIntervac.com : The Office of International Cooperation, Department of Disease Control ,Ministry of Public Health Thailand actually worked then there might be some hope, but it is, as usual, another poorly constructed and useless bit of digital nonsense that is not fit for purpose and reflects the utter lack of competence or professionalism that we foolishly continue to hope for from those 'elite' brainiacs who 'run' the country

Tip of the iceberg. I can't disclose the details because of Thai defamation laws, but Sarasas has a LOOONG way to go to clean up its act. For our eldest, who spent many uncomfortable, abusive and ultimately worthless years at one of their campuses its already too late, as it is for many others who suffered through the same uncaring, unprofessional and discriminatory abuse they cynically inflict on their students. I hope future Sarasas students are one day able to enjoy an education worthy of the name. But frankly with such paltry fines being levied against a clearly violent, unsuitable, bullying and inappropriate 'teacher', a teacher who, in our experience, is certainly in the company of many others of similarly dubious provenance, I doubt Sarasas, or any of the other paragons of Thai 'education', are going to be persuaded to change their mindsets and appalling treatment of innocent children any time soon.

I heard (Thai sources, so yes, the provenance may be questionable) that the boys went into the cave on their own after training concluded as they had made a 'secret' plan to spend the night there to celebrate one of their birthdays, and the coach only found out they had gone in when some of the parents called him and asked him where the kids were and he then went back to the cave, saw that the bikes were still there, and went in to find them. If that is the case then this guy truly is a hero and there is no blame to be attached to him. Let's wait until they are out and can tell their stories before rushing to judgement...

Incorrect! (fake news)... vaping is still legal... (AS IN UNREGULATED BUT AVAILABLE) in Taiwan, lndonesia, Malaysia (some states have' banned' vaping though). Not sure about Cambodia but certainlly vape paraphernalia is available there. . Hong Kong has banned juice with nicotine but you can buy ecigs and non-nic juice openly and legally. And vaping is legal and regulated in All EU countries as enshrined by the EU Tobacco Products Directive which came into force 2 years ago. So Thailand and Singapore are the Only SE Asian countries to have an outright ban, together with Japan (where you are allowed to buy vape products from overseas and many other non vape alternatives to conventional cigarettes are widely available and very popular).
-
Utter stupidity. Tbere is NO evidence to back up this absurd claim ... The FACT is that properly manufactured ecigs and juices are 95% to 99% safer than conventional cigs and have helped millions of former smokers quit completely. That is why in the UK and other countries where FACTS are more important than vested interests, the mecical community... Doctors and Health Authorities... not only recommend tobacco smokers switch to vaping but in some cases, actualy GIVE them ecigs to help them switch away from far more harmful cigarettes. ...

This is just a delaying tactic until they can get the correct companies/taxes/monopolies in place to ensure that the "good people" profit from the sale of e-cigarettes.
They don't want people stopping buying cigarettes from the Thai Tobacco Monopoly and importing e-cigs from abroad. No no no, that would be most unhealthy. Once they have a way to profit internally from the sale of these things they will change their tune and accept conventional wisdom that whilst not as good as quitting altogether, they are better for you than normal cigarettes and can aid quitting (they helped me quit 3 years ago). They also don't smell and are better for non smokers in the vicinity of smokers.

Sad fact: in tbeory you could buy an ecigarette perfe tly legally in many European airport sbops... or even on some flights ( for example, British Airways sells them on some routes) ... and face 5 years in prison if you get caught with it on landing in Thailand. But you can smoke yourself to death and poison everyone around you with second hand smoke with no problem...

Currently doing the rounds on Philippine social media... Any truth to this...? Somehow I doubt it...
Emergency NewsRadio 1 FM announced that Thai govt confirmed:Emergency notification: Do NOT eat canned food especially those canned fruits manufactured in thailand . There were 200 over HIV carriers instructed by their leader to contaminate the products of the canned food factory with their blood. The information was confirmed by the government this morning. In order not to let the people get infected after eating, many types of canned food such as longgan, lychee, rambutan and mango pudding had been removed from the shelves of supermarkets. Please send to people you care. Prevention is better than cure! Please don't take canned food from Thailand. Pls take note!?Please forward to anyone sharing is caring!!

Trump thinks his action on Paris, will stop the world laughing at America... He is right in that this is not even remotely funny. I for one will not knowingly buy any product made or franchised by any US company until this idiot and his appalling legacy have been thoroughly expunged. I doubt I will be alone in this. America, you ARE the laughing stock of the world and will remain so until you clean up the gross mess you have made and continue to create, starting with tbe poisonous pollution currently stinking out tbe White House

I'm not compassionate. In order to make the world a better place and achieve what you're trying to do, you sometimes have to hurt people's feeling and not apologize about it. If you want to make everyone happy and feel good, you will keep walking on eggs and you'll never get things done.
There's a problem: Tobacco. It needs to be solved, so remove Tobacco, and ignore people's feelings. Within a generation, everyone would think of tobacco as a drug of the past.
Yup. Definitely presidential material.

My father quit cold turkey after 30 years and never fell back into the habit. My uncle quit (with patches) after 25 years. It's totally doable. It's hard, it takes some motivation, but it's doable. And both started as underage smokers. So if they cannot stop, then yes, screw them, because it's just an excuse for being lazy.
Yup, a real compoassionate soul aren't you. Ever considered running for President?
