In my opinion I think without a house or car payment you could live comfortably on 50,000baht a month.
In Thailand, yes, but I want to split my time between the UK and Thailand with some travel - think I'll be OK but you never know......

My pensions are not great, only worth around 50,000thb per month but I have around £650k of assets, which I should be able to squeeze to £750k on retirement. After houses that should leave £500k to invest, hopefully that'll be enough to relax with

Yep, I've sold properties in Thailand and taken the money out without any hassle just by keeping each transaction below the radar - apart from taking a few weeks to do it, it was pretty simple.

After 3 failed applications, my wife and I, like you had everything tabulated in folders but to give our application the best chance, we also engaged Key Visa in Pattaya, surprise, surprise we got the visa in 2 weeks - my wife is now happily back in the UK with me. I got caught out in changes in visa legislation, changes in taxation law and just absolute stupidity on the part of the Home Office in mis-applying the rules over a 4 year period. I'm glad it's over and I have no love for the Home Office, all I could do was make sure I had the strongest case I could field. :-)

I buy all my Apple hardware in Delaware (USA), significantly cheaper than UK
and never had a problem

I DO like Bang Saray but there's quite a lot of building going on there right now, so a few years and it will be another concrete jungle.
As far as distance, it's about right and I know there's a few quiet roads nearing that area, not sure of land prices though.

Thanks for the input - Gkroo, that link was really useful, many thanks, it looks like a vehicle over 10yrs old attracts a 70% discount on the customs fees. I'll contact an import / export agent to see about costs.

Hey All,
About 10-12yrs ago I had a few properties built near the reservoir (Mabprachan), but I'm finding that it's getting a lot busier these days.
I'd like to find some land around 45-60 minutes from Patts to build another house so I'm still near enough for shopping and see the odd movie but far enough away from the madness to have a peaceful life - any suggestions?

Hi all,
Apology if this has been covered before, I am married to a thai national and we have property near Pattaya. I have several motorbikes in the UK and one of them ( BMW R1200C) would be a great bike to amble around on in Thailand - is it possible to import it from the UK into Thailand?
It's 15yrs old so only worth about £3k but a great fun bike and looks good too!

Yep, I read lots for my social activities and when I have time, like to read fiction - just reading Clive Cussler's Pirahana and a few heavy weights by Dione Fortune and Wynne Wescot.

The new Harbor building on Pattaya Klang, is certainly a nicer place to shop, however I was in there last week and there were very few people in there, which maybe because it's new?
Some good deals on phones I noticed tho.

I once heard a thai lady explaining a traffic jam caused by an accident - "car come, car go, car garden"........... :-)

Be thankful, I saw a Thai cookery book entitled "Cooking with Poo".................

My missus comes from Udon Thani, we've been together for 10yrs and married for 4yrs - she is the best thing that's happened to me, she has a heart of gold, never asks for money (above bills and a small amount for herself), well educated and I now cannot imagine life without her. She DOES talk non-stop, but that's a very small price to pay for happiness

When I come over I spend around 30k per week, and I have my own property, I guess if I was living full-time, I'd try to reduce that to 15-20k per week

Well the Continental GT is just under £5,000 in the UK, so around £600 cheaper.

I know a tourist guide that maybe able to do it - fluent in english and new car, but between 2-2500thb per day

If you want a personal tourist guide, I can recommend someone who is a registered tourist guide and very good.

Words fail me - maybe the RTP should read Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, this certainly seems a case of the State trying to subvert the rights of free speech and control everyone's lives. Did they forget she actually doesn't live in Thailand...............

I transferred £60k overseas about 5 years ago without any problems, albeit I had to do it in 3 transfers.
Other option if the condo wasn't too expensive is just to exchange into usd/gbp in country and take it out with you if your bank won't help?

I don't mind spending up to £150 per night?

Hi Guys,
I'm over in LoS for Xmas & New Year, just for once, I intend to travel about a bit but want to spend 2 nights (New Years Eve & New Years Day) in a great hotel in Pattaya.
I'd like to try and get recommendations for a great hotel holding a New Years Eve black tie event for myself and my wife - any suggestions?
Regards,

I know in work we are telling everyone to hold off as it's causing issues with Office 2016

Just an obvious point:
Any VOIP call is highly dependent on the quality of your line - remember you sending data (not audio) over a line without any prioritisation (known as QoS), so if your internet connection is poor quality or is also being used for other purposes at the same time, then then quality will suffer.
What is life like in Thailand for very old expats?

It's a fair point and it's one I gave serious thought to, personally I'm keeping a house in the UK and will only ever spend 6months a year in Thailand so if I ever get to the point of needing a high level of medical care, I still have the NHS. Of course this does leave me exposed to UK taxes but it's a price I'm prepared to pay for security
