  1. I have been on Warfarin or Coumadin, for over 40 years, and the use of this medication requires monitoring of your Pro time on an ongoing basis. I would be very cautious taking the recommendations you provide since Warfarin is medication to thin the blood and reduce the blood clot risk. If you are on a doctors prescription for Warfarin follow that path and do not consider unsupervised use of this medication.

  2. I didn't see you in time so can only say sorry that I did not greet you. I wear bi focals and when walking my head is looking down enough so I can view where I am walking with the top part of my bi focals. Usually my wife will see you but doesn't tell me until we are already past you.

So forgive me if it seems like I choose to ignore you and can only pass on my "Hello good to meet you", here, unless of course you take the initiative to wake me from my bi focal trance. I would love to exchange greetings and trivia talk with you.

  3. I installed new quality tires on my NV a few years ago in Thailand. There was a vibration and rebalancing did not resolve the problem and for sure it was only one of the tires causing the vibration. Repeated balancing, relocating tires did not resolve the problem. Since the vibration was slight I drove with it until I needed new tires again and the new tires completely eliminated the vibration.

The conclusion that I came to was that one of the tires was out of rount a little and no amount of balancing was going to fix that problem.

  4. Get an online account with your bank and pay with online banking. Theis works for Tot, True and Ais as well. I never have to go someplace to pay these accounts but simply do it from home.

  5. I do not have the answer but for sure the problem is more widespread than Motorbikes. Bicycles, carts, cars and everything pneumatic. I just replaced my front tires on my car and the dealer filled the new tires with Nitrogen instead of air. That is supposed to solve the problem. So far there is no reduction in the inflation and it has been 2 months since we put the new tires on.

  6. Put the ticker back, I have no desire to page through 29 pages of new posts. Also put the Mark all Read is essential and I cannot find it. By the time a week goes by there will be 140 pages of New posts. These two issues make the forum useless to me.

  7. The only thing that kept me coming back to the forum was the ticker that allowed you to filter most of the daily 20 pages down to a few and then usually I would select one of the ticker items and then click on one or two of them. I would then click on mark all items read.

Now I am not able to find a mark all read option and the ticker is gone. dam_n if I want to click through 20 pages today and then 40 tomorrow.

Will try it a couple more days and if not resolved I will quit my daily visits.

  8. I just did retirement extension in Sakon Nakhon and was asked to get a new income letter from the embassy every year when in the past I have been able to use the same letter for 5 or more years. In addition to the new income letter I was also required to show my bank book and copy all pages as an attachment to the extension request. Not to prove income but to prove that I had a regular income into Thailand. They also wanted a copy of my wifes id card and house papers, even though that is not part of any requirement I am aware of.

VISA extension was granted but cost an additional 2500 baht for extra travel time and the cost of notarary services at the embassy.

I think this has all canged because there is a new commander for the Sakon Nakhon office and not because of any changes from the government. The prior officer in charge did allow multiple years on the income letter and did not ask for bank account information or for any documents relating to my wife.

  9. Both of my friends provided copies of Income Letter's from the US Embassy, and both were told that they could use their current Letters for next year as well...

The nice girl told me nearly the same.

"As long you show proof, that the (needed ?) amount of money comes in to your account, they can/will accept old statements."

As of March 1, 2011 this is no longer the case. New boss requires a new Income letter every year (increases the cost of Visa extension by 1550 plus trip expenses) each year.

In addition to the Income letter the new boss also requires that you include copies of all pages of your bank book.

Real bummer and staff is helpless to do anything but what the new boss wants. Staff is still very friendly but must do what new boss wants.

So now I have to get a new income letter quickly and copy bank book all pages and make another trip to Sakon Nakhon and hope that there are no other hidden requirements that I have not been told about.

Will try to get it all done and make another trip on March 11 for VISA retirement extension.

But be alerted that it is not the same friendly Immigration boss as we were so fortunate to have last year.

  10. What a difference a year makes.

Last March I had a very good experience, in fact the best trip for visa extension in 11 years. Completed form, copy of VISA pages, letter from embassy for income. Was approved in about 5 minutes.

Not so yesterday. New boss now wants copies of all pages in your bank book in addition, even though it is not an Immigration requirement. Staff is still very user friendly and apologetic for new boss demands but of course are helpless to do anything buy comply with requirement of the boss.

So this year it is back to the old way and make a second trip and hope that this time it is approved.

Good taste turned definately sour as green mango.

  11. I am not sure you can expect this every month but this month my SSA deposit was on Dec 3 to the New York Bangkok Bank site. I usually have to wait a couple days before it shows up in my local account. Just for kicks I checked my local BKK BK account about 2 pm on Dec 3 (local time in Thailand) and was amazed to see that the deposit had already been transferred to my local account.

Not sure if special processing was done because of the upcoming holiday or anything else for that matter, but was very pleasantly surprised to see the money here so quickly.

  12. Thanks for all the ideas. I already have an air compressor so am able to resolve the problem with little effort and in fact find that we end up filling a lot of tires for others that are not able to buy an air compressor. It would be fun to try the nitrogen but far too expensive for me to undertake getting set up with that type of compressor.

I have always suspected the quality of the valve stems but not found a way to get any that I know are of good quality. I have not checked the bead around the rims since there are so many different tires involved (ours and neighbours) that it would be huge task to deal with that issue.

I have very little problem with the Nissan NV and seldom have to add air to the Michelin tires that are on it, but for sure new motor bikes, new bicycles and carts all have the problem from the outset.

Seems like a great business opportunity if anyone is so inclined since I suspect it is country wide and anyone that comes up with a low cost solution is bound to make big bucks with it.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.

  13. I have not seen a problem like this before and wonder if anyone can enlighten me about where the air goes in all types of tires in Thailand. It seems like all tires loose air very slowly and require constant refill. Motor bikes, bicycles, hand carts, tractor tires, every tire I can think of looses air and I am at a loss to know how to stop it.

Can anyone give me some solution to the problem?

    Thanks for any help.

  14. I am only aware of IPStar and have used it for about 3 years. If I remember right install was around 2300 baht and a monthly charge of about 2700 baht for 1 meg up and 512 down link. Reliabiliby is frustrating at times and other times really good.

I use the TOT Ipstar service since that is the only one available here.

I would not rate it great but would say adequate most of the time.

Anxious for new cell phone technology to arrive but have no idea of if or when to expect it in our area, rural is not priority for phone companies.

  15. I cannot advise how many bags you will need, but suspect that professional cement company is far better than doing it yourself. I suspect with a 2 inch 8X8 foot slab you will need special cement and rebar. It you only want it to last for a day or two have at it as a do it yourself project. But for sure it will crack to pieces in no time if you use conventional cement.

  16. 1. Embassy letter of income. US cost is $30 as must be notarized before US Consular Officer that the figure presented in real. You should have your SSA statement available for Immigration if asked (normally will not be). Letter validity varies by the immigration office used (the Embassy does not set any time limit on its use).

    2. You do not require a bank statement (unless non passbook account). Most banks here use passbooks so you would take that/copies as well as a letter of account balance issued by the branch account is held at. Immigration may require current day letter or ATM receipt to prove money in account and if passbook does not prove account has had funds for the required 2 or 3 months the bank letter should confirm. This is something that one answer does not cover all offices but in general retirement extension of stay is a very simple process if you meet the financial requirements.

A related question re the US Embassy certifying the pension. I am also a US citizen, but with a pension from the United Nations. Do you think the US Embassy would also certify a UN pension statement? Thanks

At the embassy you simply fill out the statement of income form that is provided by the Embassy. You enter the amount of your retirement income/incomes as a lump sum. Then wait until you are in front of the officer to sign the form. You are certifying the accuracy of the ammount listed as income and the Embassy official is merely verifying your signature.

  17. Driving in Udon Thani we had another driver pull into our lane with no notice or signal and I slipped and said "Shti Head" and wife asked me what mean. I explained carefully that it was same as poop cow in head. Some weeks later we were again confronted with a typical thai driver mis step and she blurted out at him "Poop cow head you"

Another time while we were at a festival on the Mekong River wife was wading in the shallow water and told me that there was "Mak Mak wind in the water"

  18. The reporting times that are indicated in this post must be specific to that Immigration office. I visited the Sakon Nakhon office yesterday to do 90 day address notification a week ahead of due date and also did a retirement VISA extension which was not due until March 15. The whole process took less than 30 minutes to complete and was done in a very friendly and courteous manner.

Not a word about reporting dates and for sure the most pleasant experience I have had in all the 11 years that I have been doing extensions. I won't go into the other 10 years but it does make a difference which office you go to and which officer you happen to have serve you.

  19. Start down a new path right away and forget about the past. I have a great time with doing a little act of kindness as the opportunity arises. As an example next time in a restaurant look around and try to guess who needs a little boost and tell the waiter that you want to pay for their meal, but that you do not want them to know who did it.

Example I look for people that are down on life by default like the little old man picking up bottles or trash to sell. Stop and give him some baht no questions asked or comment needed. Walk away feeling much taller.

We made a regular trip to Phong Khon and more often than not we would see an older couple with a push cart and bicycle and you know they were doing everything they could to keep themselves together. First time we just stopped on the highway and gave each of them 100 baht, and did the same for the next few times we saw them. Then on the final time we saw them decided to give each 500 baht and simply dirve on about our business. We have not seen them since and only hope that the difference made let them change how they dealt with life and for sure hope that it was for the better.

The main point of this is to get thinking about how you can help someone and not make a big deal out of it. Feels really good inside I can promise you and who knows may let you find a new way of life that lets you change the way you want to Mr. TheLaughingMan. I wish you good luck and my hope is that a few others will also get into the habit of Random Acts of Kindness.

  20. Any vet will do it, and it shouldn't be expensive. It's an easy operation (I've seen it done streetside in Hong Kong, but I wouldn't exactly recommend that; the cat survived, though).

Suggest a more careful search for vet than this comment. We had two cats fixed by a vet in Phong Khon. Results he worked for about 2 hours on the first one and gave it back to us dead. Another hour and a half he gave us the second one back and she has since had several litters. Right now we have the results of her latest batch consisting of 4 kittens. Of course the vet charged for both surgeries, enough said?
