  1. I'm using 3.5 mm jack plugs for mike and headphones. Would that make any difference? I found USB headsets just did not function properly with VOIP telephony.

I pointed this out to one headset supplier and he replied ...

"Well I am afraid I have to beg to differ, USB with a Digital Sound Processor is the absolute way to go and that is from experience of dealing with call centres using exclusive VoIP systems. But we are all entitled to our preferences and as such the Sennheiser PC30 would be a good recommendation @ £17.02"

Am I missing a 'digital sound processor' on a high-spec 2006 Toshiba laptop?

  2. I use VOIP Stunt and VOIP Discount on a fast 2 Mbps cable connection, although even a slow 300 Kbps Thai is the same. I can always hear the dialled party clearly but they complain I am very faint, and often just hang up because they think it's a dud call. VERY frustrating.

My volume (set to max.) and Internet settings are all fine and the computer is virtually flawless. Newish headset with controls set to maximum. The 'free' and €0.01 per minute calls are equally bad. Some days the service is fairly good, other days it is terrible or un-usable, despite paying for it! Bandwidth does not seem to affect the service; even a slow server can be equally good or bad.

Are there any remedies, especially to boost the volume of my speech to the called party? Thanks.

  3. Are these non-stop flights?

For me, in Cambridge, this is shaves a valuable 2 hours off the journey to Heathrow, which is always a nauseating zoo.

KL is the best discount hub in SE Asia for onward travel to the Philippines and Indonesia too. Given the way Thailand's political situation is deteriorating, and the Baht remaining strong, I prefer Indonesia these days: safe, cheap, friendly -- and no-nonsense authorities when it comes to maintaining essential services in the face of 'people's power'. The Filipinos had more consideration for travellers back in 1986, as did the Indonesians in 1997!

  4. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Take me home Daddy!

    Thank heavens!

Now we can enjoy a revival of intelligent decency and fairness. Let's hope the Neocon criminals leave the scene quietly without staging too many stunts.

Rejoice Planet Earth, for 'tis a momentous day indeed.

Stunts like the inside job that was 9/11? Don't hold your breath for Obama to re-open the inquiry. The 'neocon criminals' are planning to stage another 9/11-type 'event' 21-23 January 2009 to furhter draw Obama into their web. Don't be fooled by his well-meaning rhetoric.

Don't you think it rather strange that the so-called terrorists never managed to pull anything off since 9/11?

The whole 'War on Terror' is a fraud to control the American people and the world.

  5. Actually the Bangkok Bank card had no date on it and a small Plus symbol on the back, so I tried it in a UK ATM. Got £30 out ! Still about B200 left behind though.

That's very interesting. I too have a Bangkok Bank passbook account which I opened about 3 years ago at the Silom Road Branch. The ATM card has a small symbol resembling 'dz' in the top righthand corner.

I've always assumed that I could effectively only transfer money one-way, and have used the account accordingly (very easy to transfer funds in via internet). As I'm off to LOS this evening I'm not about to try anything with the card now, but it could be useful for future reference. In case it makes any difference, which UK bank ATM was it?

    Has anybody else done this?

Any UK ATM should honour the card; it's just a pool like Thailand's. I was warned there may be a fee from the issuing bank but it didn't state how much.

OUB is a Singaporean bank. Don't expect the Thai banks to be so efficient in mailing or replacing cards! They might just send to a Thai address but then I'm not there any more.

The Kasikorn one expired on 1/07 (January 2007) so I guess may be eaten by any ATM. I doubt whether Thai banks post replacement ATM cards either within Thailand or abroad as the post office is a den of thieves. Perhaps a power-of-attorney letter plus passbook to my US friend in Thailand to close the account might work. I doubt writing from the UK would elicit a reply but someone on-the-spot has a better chance at the branch of opening (Soi Nana). Thanks for comments.

  7. I have a couple of thousand Baht with Bangkok Bank and the same with Kasikorn, in passbook accounts. The ATM cards have expired so I can't use them in the UK. Kasikorn has no branch in the UK that I can find the number of. Bangkok Bank (UK) merely referred me to the issuing branch in Thailand; what a disjointed organisation that can't handle a simple matter like this!

My worry is that if I do this by post, not only will it take ages (if they do it at all) but there will be very little remaining after administration and transfer fees. Would a posted bank draft be the cheapest means of repatriating the money to me?

Only other possibility: might they registered-post me (forget courier charges!) new ATM cards to the UK? Or could I issue power of attorney to a trusted Western resident in Thailand to withdraw the funds or be mailed the ATM cards? Thanks for any advice.

  8. This was obviously an unplanned, and currently un-needed, child. You should have taken the decision to ABORT immediately. Check what is the legal Thai limit time-wise -- you can probably still abort if you act fast. Forget the DNA test -- it's irrelevant.

Sorry to be so harsh but this is not 'the girl next door' or a childhood sweetheart, and you need to form a proper relationship before marriage or bringing children into the world.

  9. Those who are new are very strongly recommended to read “The Testosterone Syndrome” by Shippen.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...6072631-9454824

This is the ONLY book you will ever need to read on the subject.

It may take 9 months to a year. Remember to be patient as it probably took you years to get down to your low levels so don’t rush through allopathic drugs to boost them up again. Go natural.

    Natural remedies that REALLY WORK

    1. Tribulus Terrestris. 250mg 3 times a day. The reason for using this is because Tribulus increases your LH levels and as you know LH increases your T levels by sending a message to the Leydig cells to “get back to work” and produce more Testosterone.

    2. Avena Sativa – sometimes known as wild oats. This helps to free up bound testosterone. That is it works by reducing the SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin).

The other product which frees up bound testosterone was Nettle from Holland & Barratt. The third product for freeing up bound Testosterone was Chrysin from the Life Extension Foundation. Also Myomin, a Chinese herbal preparation, is an aromatase inhibitor which increases free testosterone.

    http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2000/jan00-cover2.html

Finally 1000mg of vitamin C daily will also free up bound Testosterone.

    3. Zinc 50mg once a day in the morning with food. Zinc helps to increase plasma testosterone levels by inhibiting aromatisation of Testosterone into Estrogen ie. it stops your increased testosterone being converted into Estrogen.

    4. For Men Only II. It contains a number of different ingredients like Saw Palmetto that boost male sexual performance.

    5. In my cereal put pumpkin seeds as they are very high in zinc.

    6. Another point to bear in mind is that if you have excess fat, it means that you will have excess aromatase enzyme. This enzyme converts testosterone to estrogen. So to stop this aromatisation or conversion you need to reduce your fat cells and thereby your aromatase levels to ensure all increased testosterone does not convert to estrogen. This means exercise.

    7. Finally if you are exercising – do weights – particularly for the legs. T levels shoot up after working the quads – the thighs. It is the best exercise for increasing your T levels.

    8. Apply 10-12 mg progesterone cream to the scrotal-perineal area daily. Helps prevent free testosterone being aromatised (tied-up uselessly to estrogens), improves bone health and has a calming effect.

I hope the above helps for those of you that wish to increase your T levels naturally. However before you start get your T levels, SHBG, LH, FSH, Estradiol levels checked so that 4-6 months later you can check how this program has helped you. Good luck – please stick to the program – it really does work for those in good health and without sexual-organ damage like vasectomy.

Bumrungrad charges B1310 for SHBG test and B650 for testosterone to give an idea of charges, plus doctors fee B600-1500.

  10. 1) Running RegCure detected many registry and other minor faults but 'fixing' them did not help the Windows Installer problem.

    2) PC works fine except Windows Installer selectively refuses to remove and install certain programs only, like Java updates. Even seems to prevent Javare (as recommended above) from removing Java entirely, even though it appears to have performed the appointed task.

    3) I've been through all the fixes on the Microsoft site for Windows Installer problems, and nothing solves it. Most baffling problem I've had in a long while but I don't really want to re-install the operating system for this while everything else seems to be okay.

  11. 1) I managed to switch off the Ad-Aware & antivirus programs.

    2) Repeated http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346 (for the THIRD time, BOTH items).

    3) Finally (it was just wasting my time):

"Setup has detected that the service pack version (I have XP SP3) is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update."

    4) I still can't update Java or remove Ad-Aware (and perhaps some other programs; did install WMP 11 though). I don't even get to the dialog box where I can change the install folder for Java. It seems there is something wrong with Windows Installer whereby it works with some programs but not others.

    5) Also downloaded and ran Windows Installer 4.5 redistributable. No improvement. Rebooted computer on every change or when instructed.

    6) The weird thing is after 'removing' Java with the Javare utility, it is still there now ... my financial charts all load as before and show the Java logo as they do so! But Java has disappeared from the Add/Remove programs list. So much for Javare.

:D:D:D Can't any of you brains fix my Windows Installer ??? :o

  12. 1] Did you try both Methods 1 and then 2 above ?

If so get & run JavaRa ( http://raproducts.org/ ) to remove all old Java versions (these old Java versions attract malwares -Vundo etc). Then try un-/re-install WindowsInstaller(msiexec) afresh.

2] Check what Java install errors you got eg.1721 or 1722 here :

    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/index_error.xml

3] Better get latest Java offline exe installer (not the online installer) .

    http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=23111

    Indi

    1) Yes, both. Didn't work. Microsoft drivel.

    2) Java suggests disabling anti-virus and adware. I can't disable my Ad-Aware (won't be using that again once I get rid of the cr*p that it is), and can't remove it either because of the Windows Installer problem. Could I just delete the program files for Ad-Aware? I STILL need to fix the Windows Installer first.

    3) I already tried the offline installer but it doesn't help the foregoing problems.

P.S. I successfully ran JavaRa & removed the old Java. Now I can't work because I have no charting software & can't install anything. Thank you very much.

  13. Please expand the attachment in order to advise me what junk I can safely delete. Many thanks.

You could copy your HJT log here: httpp://www.hijackthis.de

They run scripts to tell you what maybe wrong.

Dont take it as 100% sure(as nothing is 100% sure).

    Indi

Thanks. I had one 'Nasty' which was PalTalk, and I deleted it.

Still can't download Java though because I can't fix my Windows Installer: only works successfully for certain downloads like Media Player 11.

  14. ... I will buy the latest disk next time I'm in Bangkok ... what do you recommend for stability ... Windows XP Pro 2008 ? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

There is no Microsoft release called Windows XP Pro 2008. That disk is the hacked copy of the genuine version. (Who can tell what it might be infested with?) You ask for recommendations and suggestions? Well here's mine: Pony up and buy the real, genuine MS version so you can have a legitimate issue when something doesn't work.

You mean, like the Windows Installer recovery instructions I just followed twice to the letter on my genuine Home XP edition which totally failed to resolve the problem of downloading Java?

Everyone and your dog knows 'Microsoft products are fifth-rate' -- even Steve Jobs agrees since that's his quote. I can't understand why some entrepreneur doesn't step in and design something simple and stable from scratch for the average home and office user.

  15. I tried the above from Microsoft but nothing has changed. At the end, as I was installing Windows Installer 3.1, it merely stated that my current version is up to date (it has SP3).

The Windows Installer has become corrupted somehow and 'Cannot be Accessed' when I try to update Java, although most other downloads seem to go through okay, for instance Media Player 11.

I am not re-installing my operating system just for this but I will buy the latest disk next time I'm in Bangkok ... what do you recommend for stability ... Windows XP Pro 2008 ? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

  16. Thanks for comments.

I have a version of Java which works adequately but is about 2 updates old (perhaps 6-9 months). I use charts a lot so it is important Java is kept up to date as the chart providers always recommend using the latest version.

My Windows Installer wants nothing to do with Java: neither installing nor uninstalling it. It does seem to work with all other programs though, and the computer is otherwise working normally. The Java help link provided is of no use as it prompts me to install Windows Installer as part of the remedy -- but that won't run either due to ... you guessed it ... a Windows Installer problem.

Can I safely remove Windows Installer somehow and still be able to download it again? Would this work ... ?
