  1. Interesting replies. After also searching google, I was thinking แด่เด็กเลย meant something along the lines of "but so young" or "but only a child" and was used with descriptions normally associated with adults. But tgeezer's "since childhood" or noppanat's "too early" which I would reword as "from an earlier than normal age" seem to make the most sense.

  2. I just wanted to let people know the interface for selfstudythai.com has been redesigned and another content review has taken place. For people who want to study news articles or simply practice their reading, I think it's a pretty cool website. Though I started the website so I'm obviously biased. Anyway, there are no ads and it's totally free, but you do need to able to read Thai in order for the site to be useful. Comments, suggestions and corrections are all welcome, either here or through the website's email. Hope some of you find this helpful!

  3. From the Dolphin Roundabout heading towards Sukhumvit on North Pattaya Road, it's just after you cross Pattaya 3rd Road on your left. The complex you want to turn into is called "The Office". If you reach the Bangchak gas station, you've gone too far. Service center phone# 038-197045.

  4. Spouting off is right. Your attach file roughly translates to:

Am I wrong for dreaming today? I will make my dreams come true. Just wait and see. I'm going crazy. I want to get drunk!!! I'm so stressed. I can't get anything done. F***ing life. I'm no star. I've got my faults. I'm crazy enough to kill someone. Don't believe me? Watch!

  5. I remember. Come down to Aunt Jumbee's shop/store/bar... Don't forget to stay at my hotel.

    Nuu's hotel, no?

No. Nuu (หนู) is a pronoun kids and some younger women use to refer to themselves. Also it looks like there's at least one Thai restaurant called Aunt Jumbee's (ร้านป้าจำปี).

  6. Use the the Thai word for "wood/stick" to count skewers.

    ขอไก่ 4 ไม้และเนื้อ 2 ไม้ครับ

kŏr gài sèe máai láe néua sŏng máai kráp

    เอาไก่ 4 ไม้และเนื้อ 2 ไม้ครับ

ao gài sèe máai láe néua sŏng máai kráp

  7. In Central Festival Mall, both Boomerang on the 3rd floor (www.boomerangshop.com) and B2S on the 4th floor (b2s.co.th) sell new Thai music CDs. I think the Big C on 2nd Rd close to North Pattaya has Thai music CDs upstairs as well. ethaicd.com prices include international shipping, so if you decide to buy from them, send them an email with a list of what you want and ask for domestic pricing as you'll get a discount.

  8. I don't know about any official expression, but I'd say something like:

    พาผู้หญิงออกจากบาร์ได้ แต่เธอจะเป็นผู้หญิงบาร์ตลอดไป

paa pôo yĭng òk jàak baa dâai · dtàe ter jà bpen pôo yĭng baa dtà-lòt bpai (from thai2english.com)

  9. With the exception of properly pronouncing the difference between a ต and ด, I feel pretty good about how things worked out.

When pronouncing ด my tongue only touches the roof of my mouth, but when pronouncing ต my tongue touches the both the roof of my mouth and the back of my front teeth. Hope that helps.

  10. I haven't used it, but the Cracking Thai Fundamentals/Jcademy guy (Stuart Jay Raj) apparently teaches ways to produce the proper sounds. Also on youtube over 30,000 hits come up when searching on "Thai pronounciation". I recommend recording yourself speaking and reading. At least it has helped me immensely. In some cases, what I thought I was saying and what I was actually saying were totally different. If you've got a good ear, you can probably correct many problems on your own while looking for a teacher to help.
