Thai also uses the term "snuff film": สนัฟฟิล์ม

I'm putting together a free website that has movie subtitles in Thai and English with Thai audio at http://studythaisubs.com - It should be quite useful for something like this assuming you can read Thai.

Different meaning...
In what way?
You pamper your child - คุณตามใจลูก
A pampered child - ลูกที่ถูกตามใจ
Someone who pampers their child - คนที่ตามใจลูก
Maybe เอาใจ is more what you're looking for? Anyone with a better way of saying these phrases, please post!
-
ตามใจลูก being pamper and ตามใจลูกมากเกินไป being spoil. Not sure what happened to the edit button...
-
I'd say ตามใจลูก or ตามใจลูกมากเกินไป

Was just watching the Western version of "My Sassy Girl" and here's the variation they used:
คุณต้องรับผิดชอบการกระทำของตัวเอง
kun dtông ráp pìt chôp gaan grà-tam kŏng dtua ayng (thanks KuhnBENQ)
-
คุณต้องรับผิดชอบในสิ่งที่คุณทำ - if you can't read Thai, copy this into Google translate and hit the Translate button. A speaker button should appear. Hit the speaker button and Google will read it for you.

Editing as I think I took your reply wrong. She probably is talking about a personal situation which would be why she wants to go out with you. I certainly don't see that as a bad thing though.
-
Not 100% sure, but answering due to the urgency. Something like "A liar, as soon as they're caught, will bullshit until their sides hurt." Definitely nothing to cancel a date over. If anyone has a better translation for ก็แถจนสีข้างถลอก, please post!

I seem to recall from the "Speak Like A Thai" series that จะมาไม้ไหน while literally meaning "what stick will you bring?" actually means something more along the lines of "what trick are you using?" or "what are you trying to pull?". That said, I still don't really get the joke.

I just read and then look up words I don't understand as I like having context for my vocabulary. Look up the same word several times from different sentences and it eventually seems to stick. Others here have suggested the "Mary Haas Thai Reader" which looked like a really good place to start if you're interested in taking this route.

Something like "When we're down, we just want someone close by. Not for any specific help, but for moral support."

Thanks, I really appreciate your kind words! As mentioned before, the site is far from perfect as each time I review it I end up fixing things. I am learning more all the time though, and the more I learn the better the site will become.

Now that was EASY! Thanks!!!

Bangkok Post has a learning Thai section that's really good:
http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/learning-from-news/333366/learning-thai-with-post-today-archive
For current daily (weekday) news articles in Thai with audio, check out Voice of America's website: http://www.voathai.com/
VOA's news articles don't always follow the recorded audio, though some do almost perfectly. As a way to learn, I've translated and re-transcrtipted 85 VOA news articles which I put up on selfstudythai.com. It's far from perfect, but not horrible either. So it might be good enough for what you're looking for.

Thanks SlyAnimal,
Unfortunately paypal country changes aren't allowed where I'm from. Paypal has an option to report when you're on vacation in a different country, but that also didn't work. Steam knows I'm in Thailand, so it looks like I'm off to the bank later today to get my account changed over to one I can use with paypal. Thanks everyone for all your input!
-
I have been able to pay for games on Steam while I was in Thailand but using my UK Paypal account with out an issue.
I think I just de-selected and re-selected the are you in the county box
I still can't seem to get it to work. I keep getting the message:
"Your billing address doesn't look like it matches up with your current country. Please contact support for assistance or use a payment method registered to your current address."
So I've contacted steam and I'm searching google on the error message. I'll post here if I find anything useful. Thanks though!

Yeah, I do have a Thai bank account but it's a fixed account so I'll have to convert it. Then I'll hook that up to a new paypal account and I should be good to go. Currently steam accepts paypal, but not if the account is in a different country. Thanks for your help!
-
Since my Steam account is in Thailand and my PayPal and credit card accounts aren't, Steam isn't letting me add funds to my Steam wallet. How have you gotten around this? Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't read your previous post correctly. I'm not actually familiar with the Manee readers so someone else will have to help out there. I was talking about the Manee books which are numbered by years, and each year has 2 books. All 12 are available for free download in pdf format:
Editing to say at least they used to be there. I see where you can read them but I don't see a download link. My wifi is having problems so I'm not being terribly patient. If they've removed the download links, I'm sure you can track down other copies using google.
-
The Manee books go all the way through elementary school (ป.6). If you want more modern textbooks, the websites on the back of my kids' books are:
which might be worth a look to see if you can purchase through them. Good luck!

Yeah his name is the first thing, but since you said you were a big fan I figured you already knew it. Here it is so you can google it for more info:

Probably best to delete my original post. Though I will say I really dislike posts that insinuate Thai people are unsophisticated or stupid.
