1. According to the TCT (Teachers Council of Thailand) ALL foreign teachers must take a Thai Culture course which takes about 20 hours (one weekend) and costs anywhere from 4,000 baht on up.
What a joke. This ain't never gonna happen. Ever
Guy I know just got his one year ext.. No questions about any of this nonsense. They are glad and lucky to have him at the school.

Just out of curiosity, what would possess you to spend a night in the armpit of South East Asia?
I plan to spend a couple nights. I've been thru there a couple times. The reason for my inquiry is I was overcharged for a room at the Tropicana last visit, 2000baht. The room was nice but a tad high price wise. It isn't any more an "armpit" of SEA then Pattaya and its drunk and deranged farangs is. The little bit of exploring I did has encouraged me to return and spend more time there. One has to look beyond the stares and dirty roads to what he can learn and enjoy.

Mr Google says you can check out price & availability here:

Thanks, but been there, went again, no luck.
I'll check out the Bangkok Post tomorrow.
There has to be a way, an agent or three. It's hectic enough there without having to worry about finding a room with a bunch of touts claiming they brought you around etc.,

Have searched the internet, no luck.
Anyone know of a travel agent which has connections/specializes in the casino hotels in PoiPet just across the Thai border?
Looking for a weekday rate without casino play/deposit requirements. Yes, I know I could just show up so that advice while appreciated, not what I'm looking for. I want to know I have a reservation at a fair rate.

Any time you read about a job guaranty if you pay me money, as is the norm of a few in Pattaya, run away.
What are you on about? Read the op's question again. Your response is completely unrelated to his post - troll
I'm on about the idea that if you pay one of the Pattaya outfits money, they will guaranty you a job after completion of the course. This is obviously related to his/her post. What are you "on about" suggesting that living in Pattaya is such a negative thing? The whold town doesn't revolve around booze and prostitutes contrary to what you may have read on the internet. It seemed to be growing last time I was there and I don't mean in a "sin" way. Hospitals, Condos, 4-5star hotels, etc..

I recently did a Visa trip from Pattaya to Poipet using a Casino Bus. The bus leaves at 8 am and arrives at Poipet 4 hours later.
Never heard of a casino bus in Pattaya. Please advise. Thanks.

It has been clearly established that with(and even without) a legitimate B.A. as you indicate, you don't need a TEFL Certification to teach in Thailand. Do some hourly work, if you like it and are well recieved, look for a full time job. Any time you read about a job guaranty if you pay me money, as is the norm of a few in Pattaya, run away.

I notice a lack of any mention of the Culture Course in these most recent exchanges with the Teachers Council representative/defender. Has it been abolished or simply no longer a part of these discussions? We must assume you can get the "waiver" or the "temporary" without the culture scam.
