  1. Thanks all for the comments and advice.

My relationship / contact with her family is non-existent these days, so that's not a goer. I'm not likely to return to LOS until the end of this year - or maybe not until mid 2020. So I may just have to put it on hold.

My main reason is that we had a son, who now lives with me. In the irregular contact he has with his Mother she always dangles the carrot that she 'might' be getting out next year. She has been saying this for the past 3 years. I think it gets his hopes up unfairly - but can't stop her saying this or writing it in a letter. It would put my mind at rest if I did have an idea of when she was likely to be released.

    Cheers & Chok Dee

  2. Hi all - it's a long time since I've been on here.

I am wondering how I would go about finding out the length of someone's prison sentence.

My ex-wife was jailed a number of years ago. I was told initially by family members that she got 6 years. More recently this has been disputed and I was told 15. I have no idea how I would find out for sure - also I no longer live in TL.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance  : )

  3. Hello,

In theory, if a Thai national has been arrested for quite a serious crime, is there any way to find out about their situation, e.g. have they been to court / sentenced etc. and if so, what sentence they have received?

What information would be needed and how could this be approached from overseas (if at all possible...) ?

    Thanks,

    M&M

  4. Hi & thanks for some useful advice & offers of help. Also thanks for removing the crap... glad I didn't have to see it.

Turns out it is true. It's been a hard week but I do have some help there.

Will be on a plane tomorrow & getting my boy out of the situation (properly & legally) by the end of the week.

  5. Hi,

Just tried my weekly call to my son.

Someone other that my ex-wife answered and told me she was in trouble. Gone to Monkey House... we all know what that means.

My 10 year old son is apparently alone or with an aunty.

Any advice as to how I could verify the story (my ex has played some nasty tricks before) before I hop on a plane or think about what I can do for my boy?

  6. Hi,

It's been a long time since I visited ThaiVisa. And Bangkok!

We always stay in the same GuestHouse close to KhaoSan Road. But I'm bored. Want somewhere different - away from the tourist strip. A bit more 'Thai'.

Don't want to sound like a cultural snob but I've lived on Sukhumvit (22 & On Nut), Bang Na, I just want to be somewhere that makes BKK feel new again.

Close to the River would be good. Around a 800 - 1000bt p/night rate.

Any suggestions out there? Have tried google but just keep coming up with the big names - there's so much more there I'm sure.

    Thanks

  7. Hello,

I friend mentioned that he had seen a Crazy Golf or mini-Golf park somewhere close to Beach Road in Pattaya. Thought it would be a good afternoon's entertainment for my son (7 years old)when on holiday.

Does anyone know where it is - that is if it still exists(?) and if it is any good? Is it easy to get to and what the prices are like?

    Thanks all,

    M&M

  8. Thanks - that's encouraging news. Although I guess things might be slower around Christmas / New year. I will get my wife to contact them directly.

Anyone know if I am correct in thinking that you can not travel on a passport with less than 6 months until it expires?

    Thanks again,

    M&M

  9. and then have it sent to their home in Bangkok? If so any idea where!?

We are visiting only briefly over Christmas & New Year and have just realised that my wife's passport will be into the final '6 month period' half way through our trip.

Am I right in thinking that you should not not travel on a passport that has less than 6 months until it expires?

    Thanks all,

  10. I'm not usually one to post recommendations on the board but - purely accidentally - I have just been VERY impressed.

Myself & my family love the Korean / Japanese BBQ style places. Even BBQ plaza if we are in MBK. The the one we happened on the other night in Thang Lor was great!

Called Gyuma. Not far from the BTS at the top of Soi Thong Lor.

As a beef eater, the meat quality was the best I have had for a long time. Esp. in Bkk where many Thais don't eat beef. Seafood great, service great... apart from one one miserable waitress... there's always got to be one hasn't there.

The owner speaks good English and was very hospitable... maybe taking the opportunity to practice the language when he could!?

Anyway, not often impressed by food in BKK - prefer to cook myself - but this was an experience worth sharing.

  11. I was a long time resident on Soi 22, but quite a few years have passed now.

Will be returning to BKK for New Year and wonder how much my old haunt must have changed.

Have been away since 2006 so I guess many of the places I used to frequent will have changed owners, names, or have just been bulldozed!

Anyone familiar with the area and how it is now? What's the bar scene like opposite the Queens Park Hotel?

Is it still a 'friendly' Soi or has it gone business like & cut throat like Nana or Cowboy?

Thanks for the heads up : )

  12. I usually put up friends and family at Silver Sand Villa on Jomtien beach. It should be within your budget.

They have two swimming pools and I think most rooms are set up with two separate beds, (one queen and one single).

Thanks for the sensible reply. as for the other one - I have my own reasons for needing to be in Pattaya so don't waste your time. tOssEr ; )

  13. Hi All.

Looking for advice about hotels in the Pattaya - or preferably Jomtien beach area.

We will only be staying for 4 - 5 nights over Christmas, from December 24th. I realise that this is high season and extra charges may apply.

I need a double room with enough space for a extra bed for my son. A pool & restaurant in-house would also be good. Don't want to swim in the sea!

    My budget would be between 1000 - 1500 p/night.

Any ideas of hotels, studios etc?

    Thanks in advance,

    M&M

  14. Thank you. Seriously.

All I have is a mobile phone number and now this seems to be disconnected.

He's a great kid, full of laughs & smiles no matter what the world throws at him.

I was just hoping someone, expat, retiree etc. might know the area and be able to confirm at least that he is ok.

It is NOT a missing person. I just miss him.

& it's hard after 4 years of giving support to be suddenly cut off like this.

    Thanks ThaiVisa

  15. OK - i am ready to be flamed, ready for the negative remarks & jibes. Still, here I go.

To cut a long story short I was young & stupid, met a girl there, fell in love. She lived with me for a few years, we had a son (Matthew) and then everything went to custard.

She got custody - of course with me being the 'farang' and I left Thailand, although I do return at least once a year.

I have kept up payments for child support as agreed in our divorce. I try to call him every week but recently the 'ex' has become incresingly unstable. She is still getting money but she seems to have either changed her mobile number or ... well I don't know.
