  1. Wow! You detractors are really in such a rush to criticize that you totally missed the point of a program like this. This is done like almost any promotion in order to issue a press release. Said release will go out on travel agent mailing lists, boards just like this one and to travel magazines. The value of the program is not measured in how many people that were already going to come here rush the gates to save 1.500 baht but in all the new people who are casually thinking about where to go on vacatation with nothing set in stone and now reading about this program think "Oh yea Thailand we should find out more about Thailand" only a fraction of them will finally decide to come here but the value of the program is in the press release it allows you to issue not in the program itself.

The notion that property ownership would increase tourism is what is trully silly

Glad to see someone's one the ball

    Me too !

    Cheers  :o

  2. Interesting. One Thai embassy, two different texts on their website:

    Maestro

"The fee exemption is applicable to all visa categories and will last for a maximum 90 days."

here the new website of TAT with the quote above... http://www.tourismthailand.org/thailandtourismupdate/

and following this link you'll find the quote ...(link not allowed)

We should wait and see more....to clarify  :D

    Interesting Maestro?  :o  TiT.

    Yes single entry only....

  4. On the Tachilek "visa run" thread, we're discussing DVD's, and on the Tachilek "shops closed" thread, we're discussing the political situation in Burma. All good, but I'm going to merge the 2 threads- it might appear a bit scrambled at this late date, with so many posts, but I think it will be OK. :D

    McG

Well, actually from Chiangmai and looks like all guys did the trip on their own.

I didn't find updated infos about visa run companies.

If somebody has infos it can be useful to share  :o .

  5. Passports are government property.

Typical laws about passports declare that passports are government property, and may be limited or revoked at any time, usually on specified grounds. A limitation or a revocation is generally subject to judicial review.

Btw Boater, don't forget to make a copy of your new passport ( including the page of your new visa ) in case of trouble you can prove your identity  :o

  6. My wife and I (US citizens) have double entry Thai tourist visas which are good for a total of 120 days (60 days each). We left Thailand (and visited Laos) before the first 60 day period was up, then returned to Thailand on December 31, 2008. Our second 60 day period should have started that day - and theoretically ended on March 1, 2009. The border officials stamped them "February 28, 2009". Our flight out of Thailand is set for March 1 - and we wonder if this small discrepancy will cost us 500 Baht each for "overstaying" by a day (which we really didn't). Is this something we should deal with here in Bangkok before leaving for the airport on March 1? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    Hello,

if you fly early morning (2am for ex) on 1st March and you're lucky to pass the immigration before midnight (28 feb) you'll avoid the little blue stamp on your passport. :o

This will depend on what time your company will open the counter for boarding and the queue..

  7. Hi, we have a pretty good pinned thread on the Mae Sai/Tachilek border set up in the Chiang Rai forum that maybe of interest to you.

You may like to take a little time and enjoy the drive along the Mekong River from Chiang Kong to Tachilek. Some eye catching scenery.

    hello,

from Tachilek to Chiang sean it's the Mae Sai river that make the border between Thailand and Burma and then connect to the Mekhong to Chiang Khong ^^.

And from chiang Rai it's the river kok to Chiang sean..

Is there a trip from Tachilek to Chiang khong by river?

  8. If you do a coversion from $20 that is right but Cambodia immigration does not use the normal exchange rate. And some don't want to take the $20 or stick you for more in bahti. You can do a search of this forum for more info.

Here are links to 2 visa run companies.

    http://www.thaivisarun.com/%20

    http://jackgolf.com/en/

    hello,

the real price of the tourist visa for Cambodia is 20$ and the business visa 25$ (valid 1 month both)

After that.. tips or overcharge are common like you said... :o

if you go to the Cambodian consulate, (located 2/3km before the border, 200m inside a soi) they accepted 20$ last year so.... but be aware that things change quickly !

  9. When doing a visa run, do you have to actually get an entrance visa to the neighboring country, go in and come back out? ...

    hello,

you can do it by yourself if you want... :D

just take the train (3rd class) from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet at 5h55 cost 48 baht

arrive around 11h30 take a tuktuk to the border cost 60 baht

pass the thai immigration go to get your visa for Cambodia cost 20$ ( around 700 baht )

pass the cambodian immigration, stay 10 min and come back

pass the 2 immigrations, take a tuktuk (60 baht) to the train station departure 13h55, arrive Bangkok 20h

total cost around 916 baht...  :o (not including food, beers taxi or tuktuk from/to your place and the railway station, etc..)
