  1. Hello TallguyJohninBKK,

This is just a follow up on your advice from 3 weeks ago. Did as you said, and all worked out. Used Schwab card till I got Thai account. Then transfered funds from BofA to Bangkok bank in NYC to Bangkok bank in Thailand, was worried that it would get lost somewhere, but that is not the case, just go an SMS from Bangkok bank funds posted. Took less then 2 days, cost was $5 us and 200baht on the other end. Really the best way to go, easy, tho was worried at first, now all sorted out.

Now if I can only get myself some better internet, working on it...

    John thank you....

  2. The device I bought says truemove/3g aircard E173....seems that i was getting 3g service, as i think I'm getting that now also.

I will look at your advice and see what plans I can get, I'm just trying to have as much time that I need online, as I have several

hours a day of interent classes.

Again thank you for the help.....

  3. Can you share any details? Your device? Were you getting 3G speeds, before you ran out of time/money?

My best guess is that you applied for a time-based plan. You really should get a volume-based plan.

Plans generally last for 30 days or until you exceed the terms.

    http://www.truemove....-volumnbase.htm

Don't be confused that it says "Hour".

Maybe the Unlimited plan for 699 /month (3G capped at 1 GB; 384 Kbps after)?

Also, Truemove iPhone plans... POSTPAID... http://www.truemove....e/en/price.html

Truemove is transitioning to Truemove H; Trumove H has perhaps better plans, esp. for iPhones, but AFAIK they are still POSTPAID only, but appear to have very relaxed residency requirements, at least in some shops.

Trumeove and Truemove H operate 3G on 850 Mhz.

AIS/One-2-Call also have 3G coverage in Pattaya, on 900 Mhz 3G

  4. Hope I'm in the topic area on this question. Living in pattaya, going to be here for 6 months to a year, needed better wifi then the building offered.

Went to tukcom bought a ubs aircard, TRUEMOVE3G, with isim card worth 500MB.

Several days later it was out, couldn't top up from website. Went to TrueMove suboffice to talk to someone. was able to top up by purchasing a card

through them, 300Bht for 500MB plus extra 250MB.

questions are how long does this last for, can I check my time used, seems everything is in Thai, only time I was able to check was when I was out of time.

which then directed me to website to load more, but was told at the office that can't load via credit card, but to buy cash card at 7-11. Ok can do that,

but should I buy second card in case it runs out when I'm in the middle of something?

Also do they have a plan where its unlimited usage, I thought I saw a 899bht for unlimited use per month, but the truemove office says no.

    Learning the Thai way...I think...help...

  5. Thanks for the compliment... Be interested to hear what the Thai bank branches in L.A. have to say...

As I said before, I think I asked them that same question by telephone once upon a time...and it was a no-go... But times and things change, so who knows....

Just a Follow up to TallguyjohninBKK on what was advised to me from my questions a few weeks ago. Now in Thailand, No you can't set up a Thai account from the LA Thai bank offices, has not changed,

and never will based on what I got from the person on the other end.

Yes easy to set up account once I got here, already had a lease on condo in hand, passport and entry card, took 30 mins and set. Open account cost 300 baht for set up of

debit card. Have not tried it yet I'm sure it will work just fine.

Now for the transfer of funds, either from my B of A account, or schwab account. Having brought some cash in, no rush, but want to make sure its locked and loaded, so have

    no problem.

Have printed out the easy to follow instructions, and will a happy man once the Thai account has been filled.

Again Thank you for this thead, you have made my life just a little bit easier, getting myself set up in Thailand. The internet is a wonderful thing.

  6. Been Reading through this topic, and have several questions, and perhaps a liitle info/help from fellow TV readers can leed me in the right direction.

I want to transfer money funds to Thailand, as I will be in Thailand from Dec-May. I have a BofA and a Schwab account. I don't have a thai account.

Is it possible to set up an account over the phone with the Bangkok Bank in NY ( I live in LA,Ca) then transfer funds, or is there another way to get

a Thai bank account set before I get there. I would rather have this, then to bring in funds ( cash) then open an account as soon as I arrive.

Thank you one and all for your advice.
