  1. With 2 out of 5 planned nuclear power plants being in the south of Thailand (Sichon, Nakhorn Sri Thammarat and Tha Chana district in Surat Thani), this power outage might win over some people who were unsure whether to approve of those plants. "remember those serious power outages, we need sufficient power for tourism".

On the other hand, it should concern people. If a problem like this can not be dealt with faster, what would happen in the event of difficulties with a nuclear plant ...

Maybe Thialand should be asking the Japanese if they want to sell one of the Nuclear Power Plants they will no longer be using cheap.

  2. It was stated be a brilliant participant above, "WHO cares about American TV?"

ANSWER: Intellegent, educated people world-wide.... like Americans!

    Is this an oxymoron?

Hey I'm an American and I take offence to these comments. Most of us are fairly intelligent, we just can't see because our heads are stuffed up our butts.

  3. Some of you guys are just amazing. No matter what the Thai govt. does, even something as forward thinking as providing free internet (OMG! ohmy.png you have to register?) and all you can do is piss and moan and belittle.

Such superior beings you all are; give yourselves a round of applauseclap2.gif

Thanks! You nailed it! Could not agree more! If Thailand announced "Free Soup on Tuesday" there would be a s***storm here about "Why Tuesday? Why only Thai soup? I want a cheeseburger" Too funny, you really summed it up nicely.

OMG someone finally figured out that the only people who post here are a bunch of expat frangs (some in Thailand and many who wish they were) with nothing else to do but piss and moan.

  4. High season is toast yet again.

Huge losses in the tourist sector of course.

The toursim minister seems to reach a new low in the clueless abyss.

Thaksin, his acolytes or enemies have managed to subtract and squander and amazing amount of gross national income in just a few short years fighting over, or working at, his manipulations to re-grab power.

And before anyone starts saying what does this seasons loses have to do with Thaksin; His handpicked crew is running the show, and one of his coalition partners has admitted telling them in August not to release water from the dams.

    Which has resulted in :

way too much being released in far to short a time...

    Resulting in these floods.

And the inability of the government to control the situation.

The Agri minister was in the job before, but no horrendous floods,

then the new bosses come into power, he didn't just decide this without prompting from above. Who hand picked who is running the show?

    That Kuhn T. of course.

The 'man of the people' has put more 'people' out of work than any 5

national leaders in Thailands history. And the repercussions are being felt world wide in a dozen industries.

    You nailed it,mate ! !

What I am having problems with is: if you can figure this out and if I can figure this out, then <deleted> and WTH (Why The Hell) can the people of Thailand not figure this out ? ? ? ? ?

Such a sad state of affairs (literary !)

    JGK/Jomtien

    Ahhhhhhh

    You can figure it out!

And you blame me that I can figure it out!

But, dear Sir, we are farang.

Only Thai know everything, and if they do not have a clue, farang can not have.

You guys have almost figured it out but not quite. If Thailand has gone to Hell while Toxsin has been out of the country and now he can come back, his plan is to make it look like he is going to fix everything so he will be the Hero once again.

  5. But, you're right, living in Bangkok, with easy access to transport, finding an Aeon ATM isn't, I guess, that big a deal. For me, however, I'd have to drive 20 clicks into the city to find one of the two Aeon ATM machines (I think that's the number I heard....). And I'd have to have one of those semi-unique fee free ATM cards, like E*Trade, Schwaab, some others I'm sure, that charge no fees -- and totally refund the network's foreign transaction fee. I'm sure I could get one, if I really wanted to add to my plastic collection. But, I'm certainly not going to inconvenience myself - and burn up over 150bt of gas - to find an Aeon machine in order to save 150bt.

There are Aeon ATMs all over Bangkok and Thailand, here is their website with all of their ATM locations in Thailand. Just use the search feature @ the bottom of the page. You can switch to Thai language @ the top right of the page.

  6. Most ATM machines do accept to pull THB 20,000 at a time and do charge fee of THB 150.

My credit card company charges 1% for using the card at an ATM machine in Thailand and my foreign bank gets their fee too.

Can you do another transaction the same day and pull another 20,000? (no question that the same fee has to be paid again) Has anyone the answer to this question?

Just curious what credit card company are you using that only charges 1% for using the card at an ATM machine in Thailand? thks

  7. The so called married man’s visa.

This allows the foreign, legal spouse of a Thai national to extend a non-immigrant visa for up to 12 months from the date of the last entry into Thailand. This visa is issued in Bangkok only and, during the waiting period, checks can be made by immigration police at your bank to see if there has been a big cash withdrawal! Local immigration officers will also visit your home to verify that you really do live together as man and wife.

Does this mean I have to go from Chaing Mai to Bangkok to get my 12 month extension?

  8. FROM THE BANGKOK POST AS TO WHY CHAING MAI HAD SERVERE FLOODING THIS YEAR.

"A local source, however, said downtown Chiang Mai was quickly submerged by water because of faults in the flood warning system, releases of floodwater into the Ping river instead of irrigation canals and rainfall of 200 millimetres.

``Nobody wants to admit mistakes so the floods were blamed on illegal logging,'' the source said.

He said irrigation officials had released water from the Taeng river into the Ping instead of irrigation canals, fearing that areas at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain would be flooded, like last year.

This mistake resulted in up to 40 million cubic metres of water pouring into the Ping river, he said."

  9. A QUOTE FROM THE NATION BY PLEASE TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ARSE PRIME MINISTER TOXSIN SHINAWHAT? WHILE THE FLOOD WATERS ARE STILL AT A PEAK IN CHAING MAI

"Prime Minister Thaksin Shina-watra yesterday insisted that the overall floodwater levels in Chiang Mai were subsiding. He has already ordered that two dykes in town be opened to allow floodwater to drain out. "

Toxin why don't you go muck about in flood water up to your arm pits and see how you like it. :o

  10. Some Thai folks I know commented to the effect he should be given a medal. If they’re going to shoot drug dealers, why not these totally reckless, dangerous drivers?
There would be an aful lot of dead drivers considering the large percentage of the population that drives dangerously in Thailand.
  11. If you ask me the Thais aren't that smart, if they would just charge $5 to have you check in so they know where you are and give you your visa stamp at Immigrations by the CM airport they could screw the Burmese out of all those $5 stamps they give for all the visa runners and keep the money in Thailand.

  12. Here's a quote from my Thai friend who works in the TOT ADSL department "You can expect to get 10% of whatever speed your ADSL is sold to you at."

512K will run at about 50

256k will run at about 25

In other words ADSL is about as fast as dial up here because it is so oversold.

Only advantage is you don't have to pay the phone company everytime you connect.

  13. Good idea this, if I can get Nero to work reliably - installing SP2 screwed this up as well!  I shall probably look into getting a Nero upgrade that is fully XP Pro SP2 compatible. IMO, Easy CD is a better product than Nero anyway - I've used this on a previous machine (but no longer have the software) and it never once produced a bad disc.  I can't say that about Nero!

    DM

The nero website has all the updates to get nero working with SP2. I installed sp2 and the nero updates months ago and have never had any problem with them.

You might go to microsoft and see if you can find the id number for the Thai language support and get it as a seperate download and then install it.

Be careful that you don't get the Thai language interface for XP as it changes everything in Windows XP to Thai. Help, files, etc.

I've got bootleg XP pro and i slipstreamed in SP2 and have never had any problem with getting updates from microsoft. I just let M$ check for what updates are needed and get the numbers for them and then download them seperately

and install them later. Never let Microsoft update your system and turn off auto update altogether is the best way to go.

  14. Well, Saddam Husssein could have said about the same as you do in your first sentence ..... As a matter of fact, there are some kind of rules in the civilised world that countries should oblige to. Freedom of speech as well as freedom of information are among them.

    Just a thought

    Sunny

Really don't think you can compare present day Thailand to Saddam Hessein run Iraq.
