  1. FLHawk: on the visa application it asks for the airline booking, but as there is no point in making a booking until you apply for the COE, I looked at which airlines are flying to Thailand on my planned travel date and then used that airline code and date. My initial planned travel date was moved by one day during the time that I applied for the visa and actually got the visa put in my passport. I enquired about applying for the COE before getting the visa and was told I need the visa in the passport as you need to upload the visa when you first apply for the COE.

There are two parts of the COE, the registration and the confirmation that you are allowed to travel. For the registration, you need to upload your visa, and other documents but not your airline ticket or proof of ASQ booking. You only book those after receiving the email that your COE registration was successful. To get the confirmation to travel, you need to upload your airline and ASQ bookings.

    Hi Guys

I never thanked you guys for your responses.

Yeah I will be in the UK next week and all this visa stuff is confusing as hell. I need to apply for the visa first, right? then the COE etc. Do I book my flight after receiving the visa or before?

If anyone could give a point by point run of the steps of all I have to do that would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers guys

These are the steps that I followed and which were given to me by the embassy staff.

    1. Check your eligibility and visa categories to enter Thailand including documents.

    2. Submit a visa application online. (you will need to attach all the documents like marriage certificates, invitation letter from wife, wife's ID etc.) Even though the form asks for travel dates and airline numbers, you don't have to have a ticket purchased at this time and there is no need to show any tickets. I received a reply the following day that my visa has been approved, but they say it could take up to 15 working days.

    3. After your visa is approved, register for the COE to Thailand. This is also an online submittal and you will need to upload a photo of your visa, your wife's ID and marriage certificate and COVID insurance.

    4. Once your COE registration is approved (mine only took 30 minutes before I received an email) you will need to upload your airline ticket and ASQ hotel booking.

    5. If the COE is approved, you will receive the COE via email.

  3. I am in the process of returning to Thailand and this is what I have done. I applied in Sydney, Australia. My visa application was done online with all documents being submitted online. Initially, you only apply for a visa, not the COE. Make sure you provide all the documents based on the type of visa you are applying for (follow the checklists provided by the embassy). I received confirmation that my application was successful the following day and I handed in my passport including the visa application that I had uploaded. Once I got the visa in my passport, I applied online for the COE. The COE application required my wife's ID card, our marriage certificate and proof of COVID insurance for the time I will be in Thailand. After the submittal, I received a successful confirmation (late Friday afternoon) about 30 minutes later and was then required to upload my hotel booking and airline ticket. I am now waiting for the final approval.

As Ubonjoe said, if you let us now what visa you are applying for you may get better help.

  4. I got this information from a doctor in Australia when I had a sore throat and tried Strepsils and some of those other lozenges. He told me to stop wasting my money and take an aspirin dissolved it in a little bit of water and gargle with that. Do that a few times a day. Don't drink the aspirin, only gargle with it. I now always make sure I carry a box with me whenever I travel.
