  1. I just looked on the Thai Consul London page and saw the above mentioned and was just wondering if anyone had heard of it and previously applied for it based upon being self employed?

It mentions if your self employed you need to provide a copy of the business registration certificate. Does anyone know if your able to apply for the visa on the basis of intent to establish a company once your there in the same way that the consulate in Hull says you can with a 3 month Non-B visa if you have a lawyer/accountant to guarentee you? Or does the company have to be registered first and then apply for the visa?

Sorry if it i have made it more complicated than it needs to be!!!

  2. There is a tattoo shop in the lane between Odean and Central Hat Yai. The owner is a thai man named Gun who is internationally recognized. He has clients in Japan, HK, KL and Sing. He also has a very good collection of inks from the US which he distributes to a lot of tattoo parlours in ao Nang and Phuket. Not sure what the costs are like but I have been told they are pretty reasonable. I've not had one done, but a mate of mine has had a shoulder cap as well as sleeve, chest and back done with him.... he's upto over 100 hours so far and still counting.

If you have any problems locating him, you can go to the Swan Restaurant on Thamanoonvithi Road and ask the owner (P'Au) there for further contact details.

  3. It depends if you have a valid mulitple non-B visa or are on 1 year extensions of stay from immigration in Thailand itself. if it is the last, you had to leave the country the day you were made redundant. If you did not do that, you are on overstay.

If you are staying in Thailand on a valid Non-B visa and didn't get an extension of stay from immigration you don't have to lave the country till your current permission of stay expires.

There is no need to stay away from Thailand for a while. When you leave you can come right back in. Note that currently you cna get a double entry tourist visa in Vinetianne, Laos. They are free till June 4th.

Although I was made redundant, I have been put on garden leave until the WP and visa expire, so the official end date will be the day my visa expires.

I arrived on a non-b and have never left the country in the last 3 years, the company lawyer took care o f everything. All i did was once a year go to immigration in BKK, smile pay some cash and there it was done. The stamp in my passport says "Extension of stay permitted until ...... "

Cheers for the Laos trip, currently in Songkla so easy for now to get the 15 day stamp and then proceed from there depending on interviews in BKK and there dates.

  4. Having worked in BKK for the last 3 years on a Non B visa, I was made redundant last week. Now my visa is expiring, I was going to shoot across and get a tourist visa to cover the next few months where i have interviews arranged. My plan was to go across border into Malaysia get a 15 day entry stamp to cover some important dates down south, then go back on the 21st to Penang and get a 2 month visa.

I spoke with a friend a few moments ago and he said due to the fact I'd been on the B visa, I would have to leave the country for a couple of weeks before returning....

    Whats the score?

  5. NOT TRUE,.......".Recent updates within the EU as far as my knowledge goes, if your caught bringing in counterfeits of any number, then they will be seized and you will be made to pay the VAT on the cost of the original product."..There is no retail price on copies,so how can they charge vat ?. and if they charged it that would mean you can keep them, ? i dont think so,. all they do f you are considered to have too much is conviscate them,,up to about 12 items you are ok ,just say for gifts,as long as you dont have a lot and they dont consider you have them to re sell its plain sailing,

Basic Education - With regards to the VAT issue. It goes without saying that a counterfeit product has to be a copy of an original product that bears the BRAND NAME! Otherwise it wouldn't be counterfeit or copy and would in fact be an original product itself... Any problems so far?! Maybe I didn't expalin it that well so here goes. It is a criminal offence, if caught like a previous poster stated, it will be passed onto the police/local law enforcement agencies (depending which country) and prosecuted. Sentences at court if found guilty vary from fines to imprisonment. Fines will also include the VAT that is placed on the original product of the copy that you are smuggling. Hence the reason you will pay the VAT of the original product...

  6. Going out of Thailand is not an issue, as far as customs is concerned.

Counterfeit watches are illegal, here or in Europe. Were you to try and pass through French (possibly Italian too) Customs them they would destroy the items and consider charging you, as they are fiercely protective of trademarks at borders.

It is far more likely the watches you have are imitations, or "homages" - by that I mean more than 9 major differences. It would also mean that no one has the right to confiscate them - unless they actually say the name on them, in which case they are imitations who rely on the name being on them to pass muster. 15 years ago there was a spate of imitations produced here with the names deliberately miss-spelled. Carter, for instance.

I concur that UK customs would not bother you unless they think you are up to something else as well. Most times terminal four has no-one in the red channel anyway. They all know exactly whats coming through as they have x-rayed the luggage already in baggage handling.

One thing - it doesn't matter what you do with them. If you are searched, then they will find them all. Distributing around your luggage is simply an admission that you know you are up to no good. Leave them all in the same bag. If they question you, just say, "have them - they're not worth anything" (Which BTW is true).

Recent updates within the EU as far as my knowledge goes, if your caught bringing in counterfeits of any number, then they will be seized and you will be made to pay the VAT on the cost of the original product. Of course, discretion on the part of customs plays an important role in the enforcement. I do know France is particularly strict on this at present. UK, your more than likely get away with due to the other flights coming into Heathrow.

Postage, Thailand's postal service is now getting rewards for intercepting counterfeit packages from the brand owners of products.

Football Shirts, purchase a couple at max, Nike, Adidas and the team owners have clubbed together to share costs and they have a zero tolerance policy even in these hard hit financial times! Soon to incorporate the national leagues as well!

Final thought... If you get caught once, there will be a nice flag that comes up with your passport number and bingo your being searched again and again and again!!!

  7. Yeah a "wm" is????

I had a girlfriend for approx 2 years whilst in the UK. She never asked me to support her or her daughter, although on visits to the family home, it would be 20 baht here and there for school or whatever she fancied. When I moved to Thailand I sent the daughter 3k a month for school and outside school activities. This is what my gf at the time stated was appropriate. Skip forward to having a child with aforementioned gf... now ex gf..... I give a reasonable amount for my son each month and extra for the daughter even though she isn't mine so to speak, but she is a sweet little thing, very polite and clever so I am more than happy to

  8. Free insurance or discount if paying the balance in full?

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahhaahahahhahahaahaahahahahhahahaahhaahahhahhahahhah

    ahahhahahahhahahaahahahhahahahhahahhahahahaahhahahaahahhahaahhahahahahhahahaahah

    a

    hahahahhahahahahahahhahahahhahahahaha

oh thats better. a good laugh always makes one feel so much better. Thanks Sgt Angel

Stranger things have happened in Thailand, and as i've never bought a bike in Thailand then I thought it was a fairly reasonable question..... If you never ask, you never know!

  9. Jools Bar -

I used to agree until i got "Big-Glassed" with G&T! Try necking that after 12 plus beers and a Toad in the Hole dinner! My ex never forgave me! I suppose thats why she is my ex!!!! :o

Now it has to be Penalty Spot Suk 29. Great for Sports, great Happy hour deal, pretty serving girls who you can have a laugh with. No hassle. Down side, everyother week a dodgy indian singer who holds an electric guitar without ever playing it! Ruins your favourite songs!

  10. I live in Bangkok now but I really miss Hat Yai. Sgt Angel, your post really brought back some memories. You mentioned some people who I've spent a fair amount of time eating and drinking with.

I really miss that little bar area near Lee Garden Plaza. My buddy and I used to make the rounds down there. Everyone knew everyone, Thai and farang alike. I could show up at Post or any other bar and ask a waitress if any of my buddies had been around and they would point me in the direction where some of them were sure to be.

Sometimes we'd explore different nightlife areas. One thing that surprised us was how welcome we were when we went to places that catered mostly to Ethnic Chinsese.

If you're like me and enjoy going to the movies, it's a big let down. American movies are often available in English for just a few days, then all the showings are in Thai.

I met a lot of people who had discovered Hat Yai and kept coming back (maybe that's like everywhere in Thailand). There was a young Finnish contingent. Those guys really could drink and were a good group of guys to hang out with.

It's a small town, so if you meet some of the local expats and the staff at the places they frequent, everyone will know who you are. If you're a good person, people will look out for you.

Some bitter sweet memories as well. Some bad things happened to a few friends (one a bombing victim, another a parapalegic after a motorbike accident).

Any way, I think I'll head back that way in a few weeks. I'm in the pro Hat Yai crowd. Anyone who is currently down there, PM me and I'll be happy to buy you a beer when I visit.

Yeah it really is a great little place to be! Wish I could be down there. Guess you must remember the dulcet tones of Jam from Finland! Dave at the Post etc etc... when do you think you'llbe heading down that way again? Me, prob over Songkran, depends on tonight how things go with the Mrs or is she my ex?????

  11. what i am curious about, is if anyone here has ever had employment terminated in thailand, and did they recieve it or not- and if not, why not? did you not know about it or they legalled or muscled out of it somehow.

Will let you know on May 19th! The company I worked for has been taken over by a multi-mational! As of yet, no trasfer of contract and nothing in the wind!!! Anyone got a job for me?????

  12. If there is a more relavent thread where my response belongs I have not seen it, however looking at the new ThaiVisa job advert tie-in website link I wonder what is the point of looking at any advert there when it is 100% clear that many jobs will only be open to Thai nationals.

For example exactly what is the point of running the following advert in English on an English based web site like TV?

    Job Title: Waiter/Waitress

    Description

    Male/Female

    Good personality and service minded

Having some experience would be advantage

    Ability to work under pressure

Enthusiastic service-oriented attitude with good interpersonal skills.

Outgoing and cheerful personality with self-confidence.

Posses strong negotiation and problem solving skills.

Good English communication skills would be advantage *

    Details

    Job Ref: Waiter/Waitress

    Location: Bangkok

    Application Deadline: 30/04/2009

    * - Why mention this when the advert is written in English ?

Clearly I have no intesest in such a role (such will surely be for a Thai national only)- but why include it in such a list if the jobs advertised are targeted towards non-Thai nationals?

In the other jobs that I did look at there was no mention of Work Permits etc. Something that makes me wonder if this is just another series of job adverts that are only for Thais?

Click on the jobseekers button on the top left, that will change auto into english! It would be better having a flag symbol or simply the word "english" to choose!

  13. Ok... Kwacker geek that I am I was just studying up on the differences between the ER6n and ER6f.

Other than the full fairings and different instrument cluster on the ER6f the two bikes are mostly identical but I did notice that the rake and trail of the ER6f is just a touch more than that of the ER6n.

25° Rake and 106 mm Trail on the ER6f compared to 24.5˚ Rake and 102 mm Trail on the ER6n.

I wonder if I'd be able to feel a half degree difference in the real world... Probably not :D

This extra rake gives the ER6f a 5 mm longer wheelbase (1410mm).

For some reason the seat height of the ER6f is 5mm higher than the ER6n (79cm vs 78.5)

And all of that extra plastic makes the ER6f weigh about 4Kg more than the ER6n. (204Kg vs 200Kg) With ABS add 4Kg to both bikes.

Man... how am I going to wait until September... :o

Paint me amazed that they changed the frame layout for the same bikes.. I wonder if you just have odd measured info or someone did conversions from metric or some other reason.. Doesnt it seem very odd to change the head angle ?? Whole second production run, etc etc etc..

I've been reading both ER6 threads over the last couple of days. Now I am no biker whatsoever, although have been riding bikes for the last 2 years here in LOS on and off, when on holidays and weekends away etc and I do find it quite good for exploring and getting around, also enjoyed looking around the various bike parties this last year.

Now the main differences between the 6n and 6f that i can see is the fairing and the abs, correct or not? With the minor points being raised above. Second question then, what differences will that make to the way the bike performs (and I am NOT talking about the abs!)?

From an economical view (a wallets perspective), would it not be best to buy the 6n and add the fairing for an extra xxx bht (think it was stated 5500thb??)?

    Again please forgive the ignorance!

  14. I go to HDY on a fairly regular basis. Have lived in thailand for 3 years now, working in Bkk. Never went south until I had to for my work. Stayed there 2 nights, fell in love with the city/people (both western and thai). Now have a gf located there sp go down nearly once a week, work permitting.

Nightlife - The Swan if you fancy a sociable meal/drinks where you can talk with friends or meet other westerners! If you don't like chelsea FC go there, because P'Au the owner loves them and you can always have a bit of banter with him!

Post Laser Disc if you fancy a bit of live music and draft beer on tap. Generates a good atmosphere with lots of locals as well as expats. Difficult to talk but then if your going for the music who needs talk right???? Dave the manager is good laugh, Thai Chinese (family from HDY, he's a cockney really!)

Brown Sugar - Located between the two above on the opposite side of the road. Nice little bar, live music on weekends. Great mix of people from Thai and Western. Is quiet early on but gets going around about 11pm and can go on until the wee hours.

Thai Places - Sotus Pub or Paragon. A little bit out of the centre, 60 baht by motorbike or 100 baht by tuk tuk if you can't be bothered to haggle.

Restaurants - The nicer restaurants I have found are usually on the outskirts of town along the new HDY/Songkla Road. There is Rock Terrace however not far from the center. Very nice location/reasonable prices/quality food. Every Wednesday the novotel does a reasonable Japanese buffet. Also there are some great Pad Thai restaurants. there is also a plethora of steak houses.

Hospitals - Rajindee is very good, been treated there myself. Clean, modern and inexpensive.

Attractions - The buddha on the hill is a nice walk and has a lovely restaurant at the top. About 45 minutes drive toward Sadao you have the communist tunnels whic have been recently renovated since the official end of the communist insurgency in 1987. Run by former guerrilas. Toward SAtun there are some outward bound adventure places that provide Canoeing and the like. Songkla beach isnt the best but it is a nice day trip and the seafood is fresh and good.

If your interested in Bikes, there is a great shop for custom made choppers ran by an excellent local nad his Aussie wife. Highly recommended even if it is just to look at the bikes or the manufacturing process.

Overall, the best place ihave found in Thailand so far. Hope I can make a shed load of money and quit down there in the next couple of years!
