  1. 1. Air exit/return for 30 days.

    2. Land exit/return for 15 days (twice).

    3. Land exit for tourist visa/overnight stay and remember holidays coming up.

Ok Air 30 days land 15! Does the countdown for either choice begin when my original ends or from the day I go to say KL to get a 30 day. For instance my first 30 days are up May 8th so if I get to KL on the 6th which day will the new 30 days start counting down from?

Day one of the 30 days is the day you re enter Thailand.

When you say KL does that mean Kuala Lampur Malaisia? And which airline will do the best job for price and a quick turn around?

  3. Hello I know questions like this are asked and answered all the time so forgive the redundancy. I am an American who arrived BKK March 9,2010 holding an airfare for round trip of 60 days departing May 6. The first 30 days are up April 8 and I have to do something to stay here the other 30 days. Last year I came for 90 days and went to Savannakhet and received a visa for a total of a 90 day stay. I will be in the BKK area and the Kamphaeng Phet area for the next week. Please advise the most convenient and less costly way to get something to stay for 30 more days for a total of 60 days.

    Thank you

  4. If you don't have a visa, you need to have an airline ticket out of the country within 30 days. That has always been the rule.

With China Airlines, you should not have a problem. My understanding is that they will allow you to sign a statement in which you declare to reimburse them for any costs if you would be denied entry into Thailand. That is the return flight and the fine immigration will give the airline for taking you with them without a proper visa. Immigration in Thailand rarely checks, they leave it to the airline.

Better to have a tourist visa if you don't have a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days. With a visa it doesn't matter if you have a return flight. Even a one-way ticket is enough.

Thanks for being so fast I guess last year was a fluke that no one questioned me having a 90 day round trip ticket and not having a visa when I arrived

Thanks I will keep my fingers crossed

  5. Last Jan 2,2009 I bought a 90 day round trip ticket and after about three weeks went into Loas to get an extension, for a total of 90 days. I am an American starting trip last year at SLC Utah to LAX then to Korea and into Phuket. Now I am At SLC holding a 60 day round trip ticket and the Delta Air gave me a little trouble about not haveing a Visa beyond the first 30 days, however let me fly on to LAX where China Air will deal with this. Have the rules changed and did I have to have a Visa in hand at time of boarding plane to be able to stay the extra 30 days for a total of 60? I planned to do the same thing as I did last year, to get to Thailand and get the Visa 30 day extension after arrival???

  6. There is a falang bar in the town, it was called Neds bar and now is called Toon Army. They have many English books that you can borrow.

    Geordie.

By the way it's not my bar

I was going to search this site and depending on the results was going to start my own topic. What I want to know, are there many places through out Thailand to exchange/borrow used english books? I was in Mukadahan and found a little coffe shop but now I am on Phuket Island. Any knowledge out there?

  7. Once again I will promote e-books, you can download them anywhere you have internet excess, and if you have a smart phone you can read them on it. And now the best thing about them is you can check them out of public libraries, my sister just set me up with a library card to a library in Canada and I can download them from anywhere for free and have three weeks to read them. I will save me a lot of money. Issangeorge

I have investigated e-books but to my dissipointment the selection is very limited. Am I looking at it correctly? Maybe you can add tips on searching for e-books by my or anyones favorite topics and or authors?

  8. Thai Gold price hits record high

BANGKOK: -- Local gold trading price hits record high at Baht 16,500 per one baht-weight of gold (15.244 gram).

Gold bar price is now at Baht 16,650

    -- Agencies 2008-02-17 (at 1.30PM Bangkok time GMT+7)

I'm not sure this is the correct forum to ask these questions and if not please advise a forum I can. Where can I go to see as an American where gold is measured in value by ounces to see conversions for the gram system in Thailand. As an American my very limited experience on how to value gold is determined by the gold carat weight/value and how many ounces? I am currently on Phuket island and would like to sell some old gold jewelry after the stones are removed of the gold value. Where can I go in Thailand and armed with feedback/info from this forum to sell this gold?

I'm not to sure if that's correct or not. I buy gold often and use www.ranthong.com for gold quotes. This site updates prices as soon as gold prices change. The price right now is 15650 per 1 baht-weight gold bar.

  10. Fees of 3 months' visas slashed

The Council of Economic Ministers ruled to slash fees for all kinds of visas for foreingers visiting the country for three months, effective on January 20.

Deputy Spokesman of Prime Minister's Office Mr. Puttipong Punnakan (พุทธิพงษ์ ปุณณกันต์) revealed that a meeting of the Council of Economic Ministers on Wednesday (January 14) consented to slash fees for all kinds of visas for foreigners visiting the country for three months, effective on January 20.

Regarding damages from recent closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports following blockade of People's Alliance for Democracy, the meeting instructed Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collect details of damages to be presented to the Cabinet's meeting on January 20.

Meanwhile, the meeting would reconsider later suggestion by tourism business entrepreneurs who asked the government to provide soft loans for them and reduce taxes on buildings, hotels and accommodation rooms.

Besides, the economic ministers also instructed government agencies to host seminars and studying activities to the country place of foreign countries. They also instructed the National Statistical Office and the National Economic and Social Development Board to collect information and fees relating to tourism, such as parking fees of aircrafts, in order to be presented to the Cabinet to consider to reduce fees.

In addition, the meeting instructed Ministry of Transport to seek measures to prevent airports' closure from recurring. Ministry of Tourism and Sports was instructed to negotiate for cooperation with airliners to reduce ticket fares to help turning around local tourism.

This is interesting..... make boarder runs 15days only, then announce a free for all for visa fees.

I have to apply for a double tourist visa in Laos on 20th.... Maybe I'll be getting this for free if the above quote is accurate??.... then again TIT!

I just went to Savannakht to get a non"O" and was only able to get a tourist for now. Me and another man from Ireland that received a non"O" paid the full rate.

  11. Yes he was a very nice Irish man and he gave me the thumbs up for him when he was called back to the window meaning he was going to get his Non "O" We would be staying at the same hotel tonight but we both assumed we would end up and the same place and did not swap enough info to get that done. Yes I am ok with a tourist visa and plan on extending it, however my stay here now hinges on some financial stuff that is developing for me this week and will be complete Feb. 6. So I will either have more money and make all things easier here or I will have to make a plan to go back to USA. I did not anticipate this was going to happen this soon but if it is like my partner said then all is well and I will be around for a while in Thailand and on these forums.

Thanks for your assistance and concern.

  12. Hello I have no more questions but want to give some feedback that may be useful to others. As I write I am in Savannakht and went to the

Thai counsel ate to apply for a Non "O" visa status a retired I had with me my pics and copies of the first ans second page of passport and of course my passport. I filled out an application for the Non "O" and when I took it to the official at the window asked me for bank records and asked me to sit down. The bank records were the last two statements from my US bank showing I had $4,500 in savings and a monthly deposit USD $2,500 87000 baht . After about 1/2 hour he came out of the main bldg. and informed me his superior would give me a tourist visa, not a Non "O" because he wanted to to see records of at least one month from a Thai bank showing at least 60k to 65k baht a month deposits and a certified letter from same bank. Tomorrow I will go get my 60 tourist visa and head back to Phuket area. :o

  13. At Savannakhet what exactly am I receiving for application for a Non O visa? Is it 30,60 or 90 days from my entry on Jan 6 2009. For the application do I need two copies of my front page of visa two photos and Visa form filled out and because of the retirement status and that I am not married I will not need any of the forms talked about for that? Can I get a blank form from the immigration office in Mukdahan. Is it when I go to extend this period of time to a year at an immigration office that all the proof of income etc. comes into play?

  14. This is my forth trip back to Thailand and I planned to stay a year and unfortunately did very little home work before coming. Now I am reading all kinds of stuff on web sites, forums and from some established farang's here in Thailand. I am embarrassed to say I am confused with all the different scenarios! Please give the best not necessarily the easiest step by step clear path, the requirements and the timing when each step comes into play. I am a retired 56 year old American male and have USD $2,500 per month pension with USD $5,000 in savings in a US bank. I arrived in Phuket on Jan.6 and my 30 day stamp is up on Feb. 4. Right now I am in Mukdahan but plan to go back to Phuket through Bangkok as soon as I get a handle on what to do with out shooting myself in the foot. Because of this late date close to the 30 days expiring take this under consideration with the steps involved, should I do something here at Savannakhet or get to Panang ASAP?? :o
