  1. No, don't move. Bangkok can be the Venice of Asia. Proper drainage canals can be built and the dirt used to raise the level of the land around the skyscrapers. No cars. Just nice romantic boats. Beautifully landscaped canal banks and no smog.

It used to be called the Venice of Asia 50 years ago.

That was before all the klongs had flood gates installed and subsequently became putrid and full of rubbish. Many parts of BKK used to flood annually for brief periods (similar to northern Jakarta) until the current various flood mitigation measures were introduced.

What BKK really needs is a proper urban planning framework which ensures good planning for an alluvial, flood plain environment. There is still no BMA Integrated Urban Master Plan for BKK (which would also need the surrounding 4 provinces to sign off on). That, and adherence to rule of law to ensure implementation (almost impossible).

I thought I am the only one that noticed those klongs were not drained for a very long time.

  2. What I have realized here is if you let it get at you, you will see tons of discrimination, best is to always stay on top of the situation in a diplomatic and smart manner, you will surely be accepted. The slightest weakness seen in you will make you get this sort of discrimination.

  3. The answer is short.

If your school can prepare all the paperwork before your present visa expires you will not have to leave the country and will be able to continue your studies using the same visa.

Walen School - reliable ED visa advice

    www.thaiwalen.com

Just to reiterate and clear out. For how long can a student on "ED VISA" studying at a private thai language school get an extension from the immigration? Supposing if the student feels she has not learned enough thai language for example some schools break it into beginners, intermediate and advance courses each lasting a year or so. Is it possible to move to the next course on the same visa stamp issued by thai consulate and get extension from immigration (i.e after 12 months already on current visa stamp) or would have to go out to a thai consulate and get a new ED stamp for the next course?

    2. In the same context above is it possible to do a transfer to a different school before or after completion of each course?

  4. There is a serious crackdown at port of entries. The law is in effect especially to those with multiple entries within short period of time. The immigration officers are looking for the slightest offence to deny entry this is not limited to insufficient funds, refusal of entry at another country, previous offences of any sort (rudeness to immigration officer etc). Please check with the immigration laws what is applicable to your visa before travelling out of Thailand.

  5. There's not very much I know for sure, but one of the things I know for sure is that my daughter loves me very much. One of her ways of expresssing that love is to punch me in the gut several times per day. Your mileage may vary.

My Mrs of 4 years or so used to do the same thing when I first met her she also pulled a knife on me ONCE...

Sad story. Got this experience once, and I stepped up to her and asked her to do it she turned it on her wrist and added some marks there. B)

  6. So as the title says my Thai gf likes to hit me. I am just wondering whether this is a common trait among all Thai girls or just my gf. i usually get about 5-10 hits per day. They dont hurt and they are not malicious. for example if I forget to collect our washing from the laundry I will get a hit . Or if i am driving to fast our bike I will get a hit.

    Anyone else experience this?

When i ask her about this she says she likes hitting me....?

you probably have a big mojo and as a revenge on the pain you inflict on her she uses that opportunity.

  7. I drink Chang, the way I figure, if I am gonna drink, I should drink. I do get more of a rock head the next day. But to really get drunk, go for the Chang.

totaly agree with the chang effect. some aspirins before crashing will help.

  8. i believe the question was what is best beer available at 7-11:

Not only at 7-11 but anything that is obtainable without much hassle. Guiness stout has been my one and only beer needless to say I have to take a trip to nana to get a taste (120B/can). I don't like beers with sweet taste and left without choice and the abdunance of Leo I got for it, but would prefer chang (not sweet) or singha. At the local functions Leo seem to be the prefered choice, with the thai crew Leo is ordered unless I specify otherwise.

  9. When I ask my TGF if it's ok to drink the ice and/or water when we eat at a street-side stall, she says "You see any dead people?" I always try to acclimate myself gradually to the water/ice here, but usually drink bottled water. I usually get sick from the water when I go home.

The water from the food stall is from the 1B/1.5L water dispensers. I drink that reguarly. For the ice I don't really know if it is treated or not but never made me sick. Don't try to drink from the faucet, I got a terrible experience.

  10. What's the best I can get at a regular store (7-11, lotus, mama-pop, etc). I have tried Leo, Chang, Singha, Cheers, Heineken, what else am I missing?

Leo - gives me bubbles if not taken with ice. Puts me in party mood cant sleep, excited and anxious.

Chang - Quick and up to the task (drunk) but heavy head when I wake-up after sleep.

Singha - flows through the throat seamlessly, drains the wallet quite fast (100B at a local bar here).

Cheers - I liked the taste of cheers extra.

Heineken - pretty much like water.

What's your experience and what do you reckon is the best?

  11. It turns out a gift is a gift in thailand :)

The cops seem to be lousy in handling domestic dispute, no sense of moral correction, I wonder if this extends to the whole society? My lawyer mentioned that domestic disputes are usually settled within the parties invloved, not much laws governing girlfriend and boyfriend issues, she told me even if I take it to court it will still be the same circle i.e we have to settle within ourselves (I wonder if the lawyer thinks I still want the missus and wants us back together which I can clearly see in the lawyer's eyes).

@guesthouse: just got to live with what the society throws at me.

@Tonto21: I agree this is some what a scheme, I never felt the love though it was questioned and thrown at me. I was asked to get married never felt clear to do it or saw a reason to. I have dropped all intent to proceed.

@onnut: I am begining to miss civilization, asking any of those questions would result in a very sad expereince. I give up. She can have all.

@mrdeedee: I met her in a bar but she has a respectful family, turns out to be quite different from the siblings. I guess golddiggers are everywhere in form of hookers or whatever you define them.

  12. I think it's great that so many Farangs are so generous to Thai women, spread the wealth around, good luck to the women, from the state of many of the Farangs I see with Thai women, they deserve a Medal for sticking it out, payment or no payment.

I think most of the ardent negative posts come from jealous, poorer Farangs who wish that someone would send them a few extra Baht per month.

You guys want a pension plan and as much money as you can get for your old age right ?

So why should Thai people be any different, and if I could have amassed a small fortune by shagging old ladies for money, believe me, I would have done it.

Lets put it this way, how many guys here would have liked to be a porn star when they were young, making money from sex ?

C'mon guys, be honest, most of you would have done it for free, so don't be so hard on people who do whatever it takes to get by, you, like me, are fortunate in life, we have lived in different circumstances to many.

Was your mother walking 20Kms to get clean water to drink so you never died, no, of course not, but many many people live this way in the world, and if some African Nations had women as attractive as Thai women are, they too would be full of western sex tourists complaining about how the women only want their money, but thats why the western men are there in first place ain't it !!!!!

I know many western women who work in Tokyo as hostess workers, they come from affluent countries, yet can make a fortune in the nightlife scene in Japan, good luck to them also.

So many Men are willing to put working women down, yet if the roles were reversed, how many Men would be taking women for every $ they could get ?

Men are willing to pay for sex, women know this, ugly girls can have sex by just hanging out in a Pub or club, guaranteed that if she wants sex, she'll get it, and she won't pay either, plus get free drinks.

Ugly men don't have that same luxury, so they have to pay money for sex and no free drinks, that's what pisses men off so much. laugh.gif

I agree with you but the extortion and greediness is too vivid.

  13. utterly frickin ridiculous... AS PER THE USUAL.

STOP DATING HOOKERS YOU MORONS

how can we tell who is one and who is not? especially after couple of beers and early hours glory with promise of "till death do us apart package"

  14. Hes joking <deleted>, now why do you want to hold onto anything she gave you? Just give it back?

I still cant account for what was given to me except underwears because I still use 'em, when I ask what was given to me the reply is "I don't want you to ask me any questions".

I wonder what it would be like to return used underwears. I will give it a shot and see.

  15. Me too for many years I sent my g'f about 30000 a month and she told me she was helping her Brother in his bar, it came as a big shock to me when i found her still working but I hooked up with one of her friends and now we are married. She still lives in Pattya and isnt working in the bar now, I send her the 30k now and will be visitng her soon this one is a good girl and fortunately her Brother also runs a bar which keeps her busy, she only meets and greets customers.

I sure am glad Im not being taken for a sucker. :whistling:

being in the same shoe I will hold back my chuckle.

  16. I have a similar case with you. I pity my ex and want to help out atleast get her to a stable point. But what the heck you cant teach an old dog a new trick. For the pass couple of months she has been complaining "no money" etc. I send down the money. The complaining is getting too much so I offered her a job she said no money to come to BKK , I sent down the money. New story came up she has to feed the kwai. I said f it send me my books she said send me back what you take from me(see my thread below). I think you will just waste your money and time like I did.
