  1. Is it your wall? There is relatively little shared ownership of boundary fences here so if it's actually her wall I'm not surprised she was a bit miffed.

If it is actually a shared wall you need to limit your activities to your side of the centreline or you'll be on her property.

Not sure of the limits (or even if there are any) but 2m/6ft is quite reasonable.

Are you in a Moo Baan or similar arrangement, there may be local bylaws that limit the inter-property walls, do others have big walls?

Since you've reached an agreement I would stick to it, it should be high enough that she can't nose.

    thanks for the response.

It is a shared wall and I want to put the fence up on my side of the centre line.I am in a moobaan , but we have not reached an agreement as the limit she has set is under her window line anwhen she is in her yard , still only about her shoulder height ,

  2. Do any of you fine people know anything about the thai building regulations as far as boundary walls go.

I have a wall between myself and my neighbor , but it's only about 3 feet high , and I want to put a fence on top of that making it taller by about 1.5 meters. The plan is to put a picket fence made from con wood.

However , when I was painting red oxide on the steel work my nosy neighbor came out and inquired about what I was up to , as the nosy cow does every time we are doing anything in the yard.

when I told her that I am going to close up the yard she was not happy , but eventually conceded to me raising it by about another 2 1/2 - 3 foot , but not to the 1 1/2 meter that I want to go.

What does the law allow me to do without her permission (as far as putting up a fence).

I live in the bang phli area.

    thanks all

  3. Hi all

I have been reading this and other posts as , although I live in the same area as the op's girlfriend , we have some land in Yasothon/Ubon but currently dont use it.

I was watching a program in the UK a while back , and the presenter is an english chef named Rick Stein. Anyway to cut a long story short , he was at sea on a shrimp boat and as the catch was being landed , it was put straight into a massive pot of boiling water.

The reason for this was that the shrimps flesh went mushy after a few hour out of the water and were of no retail value as food , hence the need to boil them straight away while still fresh. They were only put in the water for a minute or so.

This was for shrimps , so not sure if it would be the same for prawns , I dont think so because you can buy fresh prawns in the supermarkets.

    Just my two cents worth.

ps , keep up the great posts wai.gif

I should add that this was not a big prawn boat , but a 1 or 2 man operation.

  4. Colin there are No Rhode Island Reds in Thailand , People on here call them that because they look a little like a RIR,

The bird you are Talking about is called a (Warren) it has a few other names as well depending who bred it.

It is a Sex-Linked Chicken that comes out at birth red the males are White some have a splash of brown on there backs.

Buy from a Market or off a truck and I am 100 % sure they will be cocks. your problem is no ones going to go out there way to get you four, We think 40 is a small order add another 0 and you may find a Thai to make a phone call.

    But good luck

    Hi Andy

    Thanks for your response.

After a bit more reading up I have found out that the Thai version is called a ''Dam Tong'' , but finding 4 hens is going to be a problem as you mentioned. I want them as pets and dont want to hear the constant crowing of a cockeral , but I'll keep searching mate.

I might have to wait until I go up to the village again , and then bring them down to Bangkok with me.

    thanks

    Colin

Colin the ( Dam tong ) is thai for (Black Gold) it is not the same bird , We know it in the Uk as Black Rock If you can find some this is the best bird in Thailand read more at http://www.thai-farm.com/chickens/ or http://www.blackrockhens.co.uk/

    Hi Andy

Thanks again for the quick response.

Your first link is the one I found that led me to the Dam Tong. Do you know how to tell the difference between male and female in the chicks ?

I'd rather know myself than trust a Thai market vendor trying to sell them.

Are they difficult to find in Thailand ?

Do you have any Idea where I could start to look in the Bangkok area ? , I live on the eastern side of Bangkok , just the other side of Swampy airport.

    regards

    Colin

I want to get 3 or 4 of those big red hens , I think they are the rhode island reds , but I dont know where I would find them in bangkok at point of lay , so was considering buying chicks at chatuchak market , but dont want to end up with 4 cockerels.

    Any info would be great

    thanks

    Colin
