  1. "I can't tell you and I won't tell you whether there will definitely be flooding or no flooding this year. The only thing I can say is Thailand has a slim chance of facing a situation like last year's flood," said Royol, who is also the director of the Hydro and Agro Infomatics Institute (HAII).

So, who can we ask the question? As tax payers the population has the right to know what is going to happen to our homes. Billions of Baht "were invested" to prevent this calamity to happen again but it seems that nothing or almost nothing was done and now, no one has the right to ask the experts. Let's just wait and one morning when we wake and our homes are flooded we will find out that the flood prevention experts couldn't solve anything!!!

  2. An incompetent article by an incompetent writer. All expats are sex deviates and here for only one thing.....insipid beyond belief. Go back to where you left Dan and dig a hole.....and do your research rather than putting all your apples in one barrel.

How competent and respectful are you after making a comment like that about the expts??? follow the suggestion and go back to where you came from.

  3. So why is it they are always found in Thailand? and why is it that it is a known place to run to? Feed him to the sharks!

Maybe one day the Thai authorities change their laws and declare war to these predators. Today when you travel in there is only one serious warning and is about drugs; why not another warning about the consequences of molesting innocent children with the same kind of penalty? Till then children will be raped and abused because those who were suppose to protect them simply ignore the problem.

  4. You guys bitch about having more then 2 on bikes and helmet quality, you go pay for an extra bike or car and a nice helmet for a poor thai family then. They don't even have mosquetto nets or shutters and any toilets in the NE let alone these luxuarys.

    Get real.

    Long night?

If you can afford a motorbike for 20k baht (used), you can also afford a helmet for 200 baht. Which, despite being a little piece of plastic and foam, will be way better than nothing.

You're right, they can buy motorcycles, pimp the vehicle, change the exhaust pipe in a way to disturb the ordinary working citizens but poor guys cannot afford an helmet. The laws about loud exhausts and the use of helmets has been enforced for a while now but, it seems that the police can't do anything about it. It's just a question of parental misguidance, disrespect for your neighbors and an huge lack of the system that has been established for a long time.

  5. I'm from the US and i feel safer here than in LA

well I'd say as long as you don't marry a Thai wife, you will continue to be safer than in the US!

Yes, in the U.S. the American wives don't need to kill their husbands. Normally their men commit suicide right after they realize the mistake they made. Wait, we don't have marriage counselors here! mystery solved.

  6. ^^^talk for yourself. My family in UK is closer than my husbands in Thailand & certainly has more genuine like & respect for each other.

I just laugh at all these comments about how things lack in the west blah blah, they are based on your own personal experiences, which has zilch to do with other peoples families in Thailand or their own country.

Interpretation problems? Duh, That was the idea of the poster, for the readers to talk about their own personal experiences!!!.

  7. Don't these idiots realize that most of the soldiers are just poor kids from the sticks? :)

That's probably why they were targeted. We shouldn't immediately assume this was the work of Red Shirts.

Of course it might not be. But it's still worth differentiating between ordinary Red Shirts we see dancing on the streets, and other Thaksin-backed types who need to make something happen.

Finally, a comment that makes sense.

  8. I think prisons should become self sufficient so they are no burden to the tax payer. Let the prisoners raise their own food and produce something that generates cash but does not compete with businesses. Not sure what that would be but it seems like they could come up with something. License plates?

Forcing prisoners to work would be more scary than the death penalty. Some poster wrote, it is difficult to explain to people why should a guy who kill or rape a child be condemned to die. Is there any other adequate punishment?

  9. Blood given nowdays would be Packed RBC's, because the red blood cells are what is needed. The plasma is seperated from the RBC's. If not, after multiple units given, you would have fluid overload from the excess plasma, as well as multiplying the chances of incompatibility with the recipient.

O Neg cells have no antibodies so if there is a compatible crossmatch, it can be given to an A person...but not O Neg whole blood, just the cells.

Part of the reason for their charging for blood that is donated would be the collecting, processing, screening, and storage costs. But I admit that it can also be a bit of a cash cow, but giving blood will often directly save lives. The units are initially screened for Hepatitis C, HIV, and other potential problems, checked for any unsusual antibodies, and then sent to the hospital. Then before it is given, the ABO and Rh type and antibodies of both the patient and donor are checked again, and a cross-match between the donor cells and patients serum will test for compatibility.

Thinking of all that made me glad I am in Thailand working in my orchard instead of cooped up in a hospital.

Are you sure of the whole screening process? Last month we watched on channel 3 a case of a child who got infected with HIV from a blood transfusion. The hospital denied first but after checking her parents and her twin sister who were negative the hospital director confirmed that they couldn't screen all the blood and that many patients have been infected with this and other virus. Since there is no law to protect the patients the only (moral) obligation of the hospital is to treat this young child for free until she passes away.

  10. well .. Giving is end less ..

if you want to stop giving you have a few choice , die . or live alone ..

the job of a husband is to provide , if you want to play the reciving end .. get older faster and have kids .

and when there grow up ..

go think about how you feel when your kids or son in law say .. go earn your own money when you are old ..

the simple cycle of givign and taking go on in thailand and the young feed the old .. maybe this do not come across you . -- that why so many old lonely guy is here in thailand cos their kids had choose not to take care of them .. and there end up in thailand or have no relative who give a dam_n about how there live ..

    ---

i would not want to impl my value on you .. but .. to say the thai way of living is wrong .. when it come to sid sod .. i stand wth my wife on this .. If you refuse to pay the sin sod and all kinda of excuse you give .. go back to your country . i am sure you live a better live there ..

seriously i heard so much complain but at the end of the days all this barking complain is those who CHOOSE to stay here and compare to their country thailand is still better ..

this complain noise making people would never stop .. there will alway find excuse and the perfect life .

    .

if one can't even handle his own family and have to grant here . in my personal view . you are not ready for a marriage in thailand ..

many use the excuse of love to stay here for the reaosn of cheaper visa , i would not want to go on more ..

there is all kinda excuse to get marriage i wonder how many did get married cos of love .

    --

if you can't even afford 200- 300k in thailand how you going to take care of your wife ..

    -

    thailand maybe cheap

but having a house , cars and all kinda spending add up is not going to be less then 500k

even with second hand cars and small thai studio apartment ..

how cheap you want it to be ..

    -

so what would be the perfect . marriage for you .

    someone rise her kids ..

when she grow up she go marry a farang whom don't give a dam_n about family -

love her 100% but would live in law dr even when there need help ..

how about in return .. you demand a sin sod

    whahahha grow up kids ..

you may be marreid a 100 times in state but getting married in asia is far more responsbility

    --

all i see is people who is trying to aviod responsibility ..

i suggest you stick to the Bars ..

This post is even more ridiculous than your previous one. Parents like me "farang" and my Thai wife have been preparing our future for the past 25 years to make sure we don't depend on others. To make sure someone will be able to take care of your daughter you should first to ask yourself if you've prepared her not to depend on others. Sin Sod sometimes sound like the immigration requirement of a deposit of 400K to make sure you can survive here... no matter how long you have been married and how much the couple has invested in the country. Are this the family values you defend? if so keep the values to yourself because this is not give and receive! and by the way, I don't drink so, the suggestion of sticking to a bar will not work for me.

  11. Its a shame but many of these films etc always er to the bad side of the country and not the good. I am british live in thailand and have been happily married to my Thai wife for 17 years with two children both been brought up speaking thai and English and went to UK schools tand still are to get Educted. She has never tried to conn me or extort money in any way. In fact i would say she is more frugal with money than most western women i know, we lived for 9 years in the UK. When you grow up not having much, i think you respect money more when you have it not in all cases i am sure. I am not saying all Thai women are like this by any means, i have met the guys in the bar with the old I bought her everything includaing a bar speach. But when your 55 and going out with an 18 year old get real. My Wife and I are only a year different age wise that probably helped. Yes she likes her Thai gold etc etc but no more than most. Thailand has allot of faults but more good things than bad i feel. Easy solution is dont marry a Thai and dont live here if you are so cheesed off with the place, as seems to be a common thread. We left Thailand for a few years and lived in Gabon and around west Africao with my Job, beleive me, Thai people have nothing when it commes to extortion compaired with some countries.

I have been married for 24 years and there is nothing I would change if I could go back in time. It depends on how you chose and from where you chose the one you want to spend the rest of your days and to be the mother of your children no matter what nationality.

Your post is so far the only one that explains that there is nothing wrong in marrying Thai women and to prove it, your statement, mine and of some other posters.

    Thanks

  12. I believe the 10 year ban would be next to impossible to get lifted. Whether it would have an impact on any schengen visa I don't know, depends I suppose if it asks whether the applicant has ever been refused a visa to any other country. I don't know that the UK discloses their blacklist with other countries.

As to the story given, I would advise to tread this path with care. :)

All embassies at least here in Bangkok share their black list on a monthly basis. It will be very difficult to get the lady a visa. As for Portugal embassy, it is one of the embassies where is more difficult to get a visa and after they check the lists it will be even worse for her.

  13. 15 years ago (living abroad) I bought one apartment like the one you mention. Everything on the paper but the project was not concluded and 4 years later the whole building was demolished because it was a fraud and the authorities put it down. Don't fall for this kind of situation. A building that is under construction for more than 2 years??? and the site cannot be visited??? In your place I would rather come over and see for myself and then buy. There are thousands of apartments similar to the one you described for 1/3 of the price or less.

I think the lady is already aware of the risk of losing the apartment and wants to get rid of it asap.

Many posters already mentioned irregularities in this kind of transaction so, it is up to you now.

    Good luck

  14. In my opinion, a woman who asks for that amount has not intention of sharing her life with you. Any decent woman living with a guy who gives her 50K / month, pregnant, and unemployed would be thinking very seriously about the future. Tell her that if the relationship/union you're in only means business to her, you're not interested and she may leave whenever she wants. This will make her think twice before asking again for that ridiculous amount. Anyway in your place I would consider the possibility of really leaving her now that you realize that her feelings for you are simply monetary.

    Best of luck
