I am going to Songkla for two nights this weekend. Is there anywhere that may be selling beer? A personal message might be appropriate here.
Thanks.

I am going to spend the weekend in Phisanulok, and I was wondering whether I might be able to get a drink in a bar or restaurant there.
A personal message might be the appropriate method of response.
Thanks.

I am in Korat for three nights. Any chance of finding a bar serving alcohol? Personal messages might be most appropriate here.

Are figures like these available for Bangkok?

Very appropriate considering the etymology of the word vaccine (Latin vacca, cow).

Let gthe Embassies in Thailand vaccinate the people of their country.. how difficult can that be?
The embassy staff have been vaccinated already. So if the embassy staff can receive the vaccine, why not the people they are here to serve?

Has anybody had experience of using this company for insurance, and in particular, making a claim?

Yes you can change and apply for a work permit and work with a extension based upon marriage.
You should never start working without a work permit.
Hi. I am not disagreeing with your advice "...you should never start working without a work permit...", (you know a lot more than I do about visas and work permits), but in practice, almost all teachers begin their career without the correct visa and work permit until their employers have time to process all the paperwork. I believe that it is tacitly accepted by the authorities, but of course, strictly speaking, it is against the law.

Is your school's advice based on a recent consultation with your local Immigration Office, or simply on past practice ? I am aware of a few people who have switched from "Tourist Exempt" to Non-Immigrant "B" without leaving Thailand. Giving your location might elicit replies from those with local knowledge.
I am in Bangkok.

I have had a retirement visa since April 2020, but I want to return to work (teaching). I have been offered a position, but getting the necessary visa to apply for a work permit seems to be a problem. The school administrators have told me that I need to leave the country in order to cancel my retirement visa, but if I do so, I cannot come back because of Covid entry restrictions.
I would welcome any constructive advice/suggestions.

US pays Bt8.8bn for new consulate in Chiang Mai
By THE NATION
US ambassador Michael George DeSombre, Consul General Sean K O'Neill and Chiang Mai governor Charoenrit Sanguansat jointly presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the new US Consulate General building in Chiang Mai on Friday.
The new US consulate will be located on the Super Highway (Chiang Mai-Lampang) road in Nongpakrang subdistrict and will replace the Cold War relic on Witchayanond Road by the Ping river, which was built in 1950.
It is the oldest operating foreign consulate in Chiang Mai and the sole US consular presence outside Bangkok.
“Seventy years ago the first consulate building was built in Chiang Mai, and we hope that the new building will stand at least 70 more years to represent the long standing relationship between US and Chiang Mai province,” said DeSombre.
Part of the consulate’s mission, said the US, was to target transnational crime in the North, including narcotics trafficking and trafficking in persons. “We also believe that the construction of new Consulate General building will help create more than 400 jobs for local people,” added the ambassador.

So, they are looking for everybody who did something wrong in this case except the actual perpetrator of the crime.
We have all seen him on television at the front door of his house in London, so why not request his extradition?

Is that $100,000 general health insurance or specifically for COVID-19 treatment? I thought it was the latter, but this article suggests otherwise:
"...health insurance with a minimum coverage of $100,000, including coverage for COVID-19".
People over 50 will have to spend a lot to return here. My health insurance costs me 45,000 per year, and it only covers 500,000 baht (in-patient treatment only; they appear to want about six times that...

Yeah looks that way, Thailand's figures do look suspect.
But Vietnam's figures (355 cases, no deaths) are even better than Thailand's. Anyway, it is inconvenient for anyone wanting to travel from here to the UK, and I am just hoping they have made a mistake and will update the list soon.

Yes the UK government doesn't believe the official narrative from Thailand, also Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia not included. The EU has Thailand on it's safe list.
But it believes Vietnam? That seems strange to me (I am just commenting, not looking for a fight).
The President of Vietnam (Chủ tịch nước) is elected by the National Assembly, thus an indirect system. The Prime Minister of Vietnam (Thủ tướng) and Chief Justice (Chánh án Tối cao) of Vietnam are appointed by the President and approved by the National Assembly. The Ministers are then appointed by the Prime Minister and also approved by the National Assembly.
At the May 20, 2007 election only the Vietnamese Fatherland Front, a front consisting of the Communist Party of Vietnam, mass organizations and affiliated, and some non-partisans were allowed to participate. 1 member is self-nominated and is not a member of the VFF. 42 seats were won by non-party candidates. The president is elected for a five-year term by the parliament. More than 99% of all candidates were selected by Communist Party and most of them were from their own party.

Actually, unlike Thailand, the UK never had a lockdown. International flights, including 450 from China were allowed to land there throughout the so-called "lockdown".

Unbelievable. Thailand is not regarded as a "Covid-19 safe" country by UK authorities (just announced). See the list of "exempt" countries by following the link below.
People from Spain and Italy can go to the UK without self-isolating, but people from Thailand cannot... Well done, Doris Johnson.

The onus is on you to have the testing done...change the flight time
It would be better to take the test a week or even two before flying, as people are going to re-tested on arrival, and this would allow the virus to incubate if they have it.

Thanks to everybody for these constructive posts. The owner of the school is currently seeking legal advice, and if I find out anything conclusive, I will reveal it her

No new cases in 6 weeks (incubation time is 14 days).
They can open all businesses without any problem.
If you want no new cases in Thailand, keep the borders shut till Jan. 2021.
I could not agree more. If the only cases of Covid that we have are people in quarantine, how is the virus going to spread in a bar or on a beach or anyway?

The retirement issue is not a problem, as I would leave the country (when possible) and get a tourist or non-B, but the 4 Thai employees requirement is.
Thanks for your help.

I have a B.A., a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Thai Teacher's Licence.
I resigned from my full-time teaching job last April and switched to a retirement visa; however, I find that I still need to work for another two or three years.
I have been offered a position teaching English in a very small language school where the only teachers would be the (Thai) owner and myself. Is it possible for such a language school to offer a work permit (the owner is not sure about it)?
Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

Uneducated people are easily manipulated by populist politicians.
Whether Thailand is ready for a democracy that functions as intended, I'll leave up to you.
Winston Churchill is reputed to have once said, “The best argument against Democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” He was not referring to Thailand (at least, not specifically).

Face it, you are just another farang moaner who cannot accept the Thailand is doing something right.
I had to go to Bangkok Christian Hospital Out Patients Department late last week, and I seemed to be the only patient in the whole place. I believe the numbers being quoted by the authorities are reasonably accurate; if not, there would be gnashing of teeth on the social media. I am a teacher in a school which caters for about 6,000 students, and so far, I do not know of any student or staff member who has contracted the virus.

New seat belt rules to apply from September
in Thailand News
Posted
I could not understand why taxi drivers did this until one of my students explained: the drivers sleep in their vehicles, and the seatbelt holders would prevent them from sleeping.
While this does not excuse the practice, it has made me feel sympathetic towards these drivers who eke out such a poor living that they cannot/prefer not to pay for a room to sleep in.
Like many other people, I feel uncomfortable travelling in these vehicles, but I compromise: instead of refusing to travel in them, I choose the front seat where there is always a functioning seatbelt.
