  1. I stayed in a hotel on the beach in Karon in 2010 and was close to being killed when using the shower. I turned the hot water on and then whilst the two taps were running, I tried to turn the heat down and was just held to the tap and was being electrocuted. I could not let go of the tap and my whole body was convulsing. I yelled to my partner in the other room but she was watching television and could not hear me. I finally managed to punch my hand off the tap by using my other shaking arm. I told the management and apart from an apology, there was no compensation, even a reduced room rate was refused. The maintainence came in the next day and changed the water heater. We switched rooms but I found that for rest of the trip, I could not have a shower without flip flops (thongs) on and a constent paranoia that it was going to happen again. Thailand is notorious for it's bad electrical work. I was lucky and the Russian was not.

Rest In Peace and condolences to the familes.

I'm sorry but I would take very little from this at all.

There is no mention of the code for the Non immigrant visa though we assume it's a Non-0 visa.

This is hardly a new rule anyway, if you arn't married to the mother of the child what right should you have to get the visa anyway.

Seems like the only reason why you got the email in the first place was because some guy knocked up a girl in Pattaya and thought it would be a good way to get a visa.

Oh and to those who think it's racist go back and ask your own consulate if this would fly in your country, it wouldn't. have a kid in america to an unwed mother good luck if you think you'll get a green card.

Not true: the mother of a child with German nationality has the right to stay with the child in Germany, because it is the given right to a mother to take care of her child. Even not a language test is needed under this circumstances. When she wants to be with her child in Germany, she don't need to show money, give a proof of return, not need to be married to a German etc. And I can imagine, this is similar at other countries.

Yes.. With you all the way ThaiSold... If you have an issue with this"new" rule, maybe you should examine the real reasons why this would be inconvenient to you. Hmmmm! And, the article is about the father claiming the visa, not the mother.

  3. Great sentiment! Should have left it at that!No need to quote a cliche at such a sad time for the family! Don't you think they are assuming enough blame themselves? You weren't there, so how do you know that the lifeguards were "Monkeys"? Why not just be compassionate and leave it that rather than blame someone? I am sure that the lifeguards don't start their day out hoping that someone dies..Really...

vERY SAD, SHE'S THAI & COULDN'T GET ANY ACTION FROM THE ATTENDENT'S! BUT IT'S THE OLD ADAGE "PAY PEANUT'S & GET MONKEY'S." 36_1_38.gif

  8. THe only spots are like 3 streets over and two down from the main now. I also HATE the vendors in the middle now, it was already cramped enough!

BTW if you live out in Sam Kampaeng they have a Saturday night walking street which is nice.

Thanks for that also.I live near Wat Jed Yod but Sam Kampaeng could also be good. Appreciate the suggestion :o

Thanks for your help all.I now have the info I need so this topic has been addressed.

  10. Can any one give me some advice on who to talk to in Chiang Mai Government or other, to procure a stall space on the Sunday Walking Street.

My wife who is Thai applied for a stall last year. Here is the phone number of the office: 053-213-468. Last year, the name of person in charge was Mae Nay. Last year there was a very, very long waiting list. So what my wife ended up doing was going to one of the wats that connect to a walking market street and renting a space there. For that, she had to go to the wat on the day of the market and find the person in charge. It was extremely inexpensive. 50 baht for the day.

Thankyou cozumelito very much for your welcomed advice..You have answered my request!!

  11. And might I suggest that it would be a good idea to have your work permit with you when seling your wares (unless of course you are just gonna just sit and watch a a card carrying native of the realm doing the selling)

Not quite sure what you really mean by"card carrying native of the realm doing the selling". The selling will be to Thais who trust Thais .Unlike farangs selling to Thais who don't trust farangs. So I do not have a problem with "the card carrying native of the realm doing the selling" .My questions was purely about who I speak to for permission to open a stall on the Sunday Walking Street. I am sure that if someone gives me the information that I need, which pure and simple asked "Does anyone know who I should approach?" then I would assume that they will mention "the card carring native of the realm seller".Thanks for your help and your advice...

  12. again, i do think you should do what you can to help, but someone else's life and choices are not your responsibility, and if they are going to do the deed, you can not blame yourself whether you offered help or not.

anyway, i hope my friend will be ok. i am off to the states in a couple of hours so taking him to the ER in chiang mai is not an option.

You can have a lifetime of guilt wondering if the help you provided was adequate or if there was something more you could have done to intervene to save someone's life. Perhaps something more pro-active than asking on an internet forum for a telephone number. By being the most pro-active one can be, such as an escorted trip with the person to a hospital emergency room to be evaluated by a trained professional precludes having to go through all that soul-searching and turmoil following a completed suicide.

I should, however, qualify all my general remarks earlier and now, in that they were are all made with the presumption that a person give a rat's ass about the person involved. If someone is not that close of a friend, then the corresponding actions one should feel obligated to take are varied.

    Have a nice flight.

Funny...Sometimes if you are that concerned about a person's welfare , you will do whatever it takes to help them and give yourself peace of mind that you did all that you could..That is the question..Did you? Could you have taken this person to a professional? Could you change your flight since your concern was so great?

I think that you have shown a lot of compassion about someone you know but sometimes you just have to take action and prioritise things like this above everything else. You know, it comes down to you. None of us has the right to judge you for your actions. If you don't know this person that well, perhaps even making an enquiry may be enough. For some , it may not be enough. The fact is that you have shown some concern and that's a good thing...Something good will always come out of discussing subjects like this. Who knows, this may jolt some other person on this forum, who is in a similar predicament to you, to take some action. The most important thing is that you noticed and asked questions.

  13. Hello....I am a volunteer at Care for Dogs shelter in CM and in trying to broaden our exposure within the city, I was trying to get a stall/stand on the Sunday Walking Street. The stall would be manned by volunteers educating the public on the plight of the numerous sick, abandoned, abused, homeless and starving dogs within Chiang Mai Province and the steps taken at the Care for Dogs shelter to try and help these animals. Of course, we would also be trying to increase donations and sell merchandise which is locally made. These sale items and donations are the only way for the shelter to survive, since it is a not for profit organisation relying solely upon the generosity and sympathy of the public.

The question that I have is: Does anyone in this forum know where I would start in making enquiries regarding procurement of a space at the Walking Street so we can get this moving. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we seem to be floundering along.

Thankyou so much to anyone who can offer us suggestions.. :o
