  1. There still seems to be some debate over whether expats and Thai nationals can enter Phuket having had both Covid vaccinations without having to enter on a tourist visa and stay in an approved hotel and have 3 covid tests done over 2 weeks. I am a Phuket resident on a retirement visa who will have first Astra Zeneca vaccine on June 28th, and second appointment is mid September. If I leave Thailand after that for a holiday with a re-entry permit can I re-enter the country via Phuket or for that matter in October transit via Bangkok and go home, or will i need to enter on a tourist visa and stay in a hotel for 2 weeks. Appears to be conflicting reports in the media around this.

  2. If I am reading this correctly and of course liable to change, tourists heading to Phuket after July 1st will not have to quarantine providing can show vaccinated twice, holding a certificate of entry from local embassy and having tested negative within 3 days of arrival. If you live here on a work permit or retirement visa you will require the same documents but still have to go to a Quarantine facilty for 7 days? This implies that tourists won't spread Covid but returning expats more likely to. Or am I reading this incorrectly?

  3. Sorry but in my opinion Thailand has set an example to the rest of the world how to fight this pandemic. I notice BJ just announced that anybody entering the UK must have a covid test within 72 hours of flying and then self quarantine after arrival. About 9 months too late! Self quarantine is also not sufficient, all arrivals should be taken to currently empty hotels for strict isolation and testing just like guess who has done for months. May be it is inconvenient but it certainly has worked. Latest outbreak is down to people slipping over the border and ignoring the rules.

  4. In relation to changing passport, I just did mine in a matter of minutes while I waited. You need to copy all your old visas as well as main page of old and new passport. That was it. No fee. As my visa was due for renewal in a few weeks asked if I wanted my re-entry permit copying over as of course would take up a page which I thought very considerate of them to ask. When come to renew visa means you only need to copy 1 page instead of half your passport.

  5. Did mine yesterday and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Got there at 9 am and an officer was outside the room and asked to see my papers which were fully complete. Waved me through and the officer took 2 minutes to check everything and then told me to wait for photo. The girl there after processing papers then took photo and showed me an example of the new photo requirement and asked me to come back after 1pm next day to collect passport and also bring a similar photo. Having already read about this above had one with me which she said was fine and had me sign another document. All staff were very helpful and friendly. The secret is to make sure you complete everything in advance and take anything you think they may ask for as different officers ask for different things. For example the regulations state that all you now need if using money in the bank is a letter from the bank and a printed bank statement from the bank. Inevitably the officer will also ask for photo copy of your bank book and each page . I take copy of every page going back 12 months just in case. Remember to copy every previous visa from your passport. I recently changed my passport so only had one page to copy. There is one other form that now has to be signed and this is a short one which in effect just states that you accept the decision of the immigration officer regarding your application. They are on the table outside. An obvious tip is to immediately apply for your re-entry permit when you pick up passport next day. You will need to photo copy your new visa in addition to the main page and arrival/departure card.

  6. The Bangkok Phuket Hospital charges double what you will pay for the same drugs from a local pharmacy.<div>My wife has to have regular medication and was actually her doctor at the BP hospital who advised her to get the prescription made up outside.</div><div>When you see a doctor at the hospital you should ask for the prescription not to be made up at the hospital as 100% you will be charged double what you will pay next door at a pharmacy.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

  7. 7 years ago every dog on Phuket had this condition. Now although you still see it, not that many any more.<div>Contact Soi Dog Foundation (www.soidog.org) there, and they will tell you how to treat dogs. About 10thb per treatment I understand.</div><div>2 types of mange sarcoptic and demodec. The first is infectious and easy to treat, the second not contagious but harder to rid.</div><div>Also not all hairless dogs are suffering from mange. Many other conditions can cause it.</div><div>Never known anybody ever catch sarcoptic mange from a dog. It is a form of scabies but does not appear to transmit to humans.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

  8. They have mange...,most "soi dogs" get this condition. It's their lot in life...there is nothing you can do about it except add a little wafarin to their food. Don't sweat it...the lifespan of soi dog is only 3-4 years before re-incarnation so they don't suffer for long.

Ridiculous statement. Very easy to treat.

  9. up til recently the injection was used here in israel also for the same reason: to prevent pregnancy in bitches, because of religious objection (jewish religious) to spaying or neutering an animal so the injection was the answer. cancer was the reason behind it beoming not legal/not available. the old timer vets were still using it but no vet from the 'younger' set will do so.

not sure how to overcome the anti spay feeling among family members. i had to castrate my small male recenlty at the same time he had one eye removed (because of his balls i.e. hormones, he apparently got in a huge fight or got hit in the eye, cornea ripped, hence the eye removal, and hence also, the castration to keep him out of subsequent hormonally based dog fights). thai hubby was very not happy about the cost of the 2 in 1 operation (and i got a discount since i helped during the operation),nor the castration but since then, has not mentioned it again. foofoo's behavior has mellowed a bit, but he still acts 'male' (just shows that alot of it is learned and not hormonal only) enough that hubby has let up being anti castration/ now spaying also came up after lilee's miscarriage and subsequent problems but we have held off the spay to try for a litter in a year or so. he thinks we (farang) are looney tunes when it comes to our pets, but if he wants to spend money on gadgets and things, then i spend money on my pets. that shut up the financial argument.

    good luck.

We see many bitches that have been given contraceptive pills or injections. The incidence of pyometra is extremely high. The drugs should be bnned in Thailand as they are in many other countries now. Spaying is safe, economical, and will cut down chances of other forms of cancer.

  10. SORRY, BUT THAT BEHAVIOR IS NOT STEREOTYPICAL OF ANY BREED. THE OWNERS AND WHOEVER TRAINED THESE DOGS ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE. PERIOD!

    Spot on with this comment.

Although you are perfectly correct with this comment, the fact remains that too many of these dogs fall into the hands of irresponsible owners.

Involved as I am with an animal charity we are also seeing many of these dogs abandoned in temples and elsewhere when presumably they failed to make the grade in the dog fight scene or their owners found themselves unable to control them, which is growing in popularity as a "sport" here. When this happens the dogs cause havoc.

It is also not unusual to see pit bulls and other large breeds confined in cages or tethered to short leads for their entire lives as deterrents to would be burglars. In such instances it is hardly surprising that the dog literally goes insane.

Thailand has banned the importation of pit bulls, but the indiscriminate breeding of them is not banned and it continues at an alarming rate.
