  1. what should I be worrying about the most at the moment, influenza in pigs or global warming.

6 months back they were predicting millions dead this winter from flu, and Al Gore now admits CO2 emissions can not be linked to global warming.

Drug company's are reaping a fortune from the sale of a drug that will prove ineffective against this strain of flu, and global warming is a gold mine for government and industry.

we live in an era of manufactured panic, from Y2K to WMD in Iraq, the list of things to worry about is never ending.

How do you know when a politician is lying, their lips move!!!

  2. I will be applying for a marriage visa next Monday. I have just been informed that in addition to the 30 day waiting period to hear the outcome of the application there a second interview 60 days after that, and if you miss this second interview your marriage visa is revoked?

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I see from other posts that a joint account can be used in applying for a marriage visa at some immigration offices, is this possible at Soi Suan Plu?

  3. It means you must either have 400k in a Thai bank account for the last 2-3 months (never going below) or you need 40k income (with work permit if from Thailand). If income from outside as outlined on a letter from your Embassy.

There is normally a 30 day under consideration extension and recently you have received the final at the end of that period (although it used to take much longer).

OK, so this is how it looks for me at the moment, I deposited the 400K on 24 February and will have two months or 60 days by 24 April, if I apply on that date, and they accept my application, I may have to wait until the 24 May before they reply.

I am due to depart Thailand on the 25 May.

The 30 day under consideration extension would get me to the 23 May, and I assume would cancel out my present visa, good until 8 June.

This is beginning to look unrealistic.

Thanks for all the replies; I will keep you informed as to the outcome.

  4. Lite Beer is right, however, the account has to be in your name ONLY. No joint accounts accepted. I had a similar problem when I first applied for mine. I had money in the country for 18 months prior to my wedding, but then had to move it to an account of my own in order to get the 1 yr extension based on marriage.

Agree but in the past they have allowed retirees to use joint accounts if they have double the required amount deposited. I wondered if they would do the same with the marriage extension.

using the 1 million account would be my best option, I will try and ask immigration directly, but as others have said getting a reply from them could be problematic.

  5. Has the 400k in the bank rule changed in the last year? I was under the impression new applicants could not use the money in the bank but needed to show 40,000/month income...

I hope this is the case as getting a letter from the embassy is a pain in the butt.

This will be my first application for a marriage visa so what does this mean?

I need 400K in the bank or show an income of 40K per month?

I see from other posts that there is a waiting time between submitting your application and getting a reply from immigration, how long does it usually take?

  6. Last February I asked questions on extensions to a non “O” visa, the replies I received at that time said basically that I could get a 60 day extension to a non “O” visa based on marriage, and if I deposited 400K in the bank for 60 days I could get a one year marriage visa.

I deposited the 400K on the 24 February, planning on leaving Thailand in mid May, and therefore with sufficient time to meet the 60 day requirement to qualify for a marriage visa.

I went down too the immigration department on Wednesday to get a 60 day extension to my non “O” visa.

I also picked up the application form with a list of documents I must submit for a one year marriage visa, the immigration officer said that I must have 400K in the bank for 90 days to qualify for a marriage visa?

In the list of documents I need to submit with this visa application, it quite clearly states I only need “not less than 400K in the Bank for 2 months”

So have the rules changed from 60 to 90 days, or is this immigration officer mistaken??

If the rules have changed, I have from August last year, one million Baht in a fixed deposit/joint account with my wife.

Can I use this account to meet the financial requirements to obtain a one year marriage visa.

  7. Tare weight is the weight of a vehicle or container when it is empty. This weight is used in calculations of net weight for tasks which range from properly charging customers for consumer goods to taxing laden trucks as they cross borders. To calculate the net weight of a load, the container is weighed to establish the tare weight and then weighed again for the gross weight, and the tare is subtracted from the gross to find out how heavy the load is

    gross - tare = net

  8. Not getting any replies in the travel forum so would appreaciate any information on this beach,

I am looking for a quite beach whithin a resonable distance of Bangkok

"I was planning a holiday at Ban Krut beach but have recently heard that the beach is pretty dirty and there is a lot of fish farming in the area.

Can any one who has recently been there give me an update."

    Thanks

  9. The book published in 2005 and Harry charged in 2008.

It looks as if the authorities needed a sacrificial goat.

Why was Harry not granted bail.

Because the authorities saw him as a nobody whose imprisonment they could use to intimidate others.

Tow the line or this is what will happen to you.

“Verisimilitude” Harry Nicolaides book can be googled and downloaded, If not for the publicity I would not have bothered.

    WAtoday.com.au

Nicolaides said he would write another book detailing his ordeal. "I'm angry and frustrated and perplexed at my treatment," he said. "I'm tired and exhausted and I've got a mother to go and see who's lost the power of speech.

Here is a list of people out on bail or under investigation.

Thai police formally charged leading leftist commentator Giles Ungpakorn on Tuesday with insulting the king, the latest in a slew of lese majeste cases critics say are stifling dissent and freedom of speech.

JAKRAPOB PENKAIR - A spokesman for ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Jakrapob had to resign as a minister in the pro-Thaksin government in May after being accused of slandering the king in a talk at Bangkok's Foreign Correspondents' Club.

JONATHAN HEAD - The British BBC correspondent in Bangkok has received three lese majeste complaints. One was related to an online BBC story not written by Head which did not place the photograph of the king at the top of the page, as is customary in Thailand.

CHOTISAK ONSOONG - The young political activist was accused by police in April of insulting the monarchy for refusing to stand during the royal anthem that precedes all movie screenings in Thailand.

JITRA KOTCHADEJ - A union activist and friend of Chotisak, Jitra was fired by bosses at her clothing factory in August for appearing on a TV panel discussion wearing a T-shirt saying "Not standing is not a crime," a reference to Chotisak. It is not known if she has been charged by police.

SULAK SIVARAKSA - A leading academic and long-time critic of the lese majeste law, the 75-year-old was taken from his Bangkok home late one night in November and driven 450 km (280 miles) to a police station in the northeast province of Khon Kaen.

There, he was charged with insulting the monarchy in a university lecture he gave in December the previous year.

DARUNEE CHARNCHOENGSILPAKUL - More commonly known as "Da Torpedo," the pro-Thaksin campaigner was arrested in July after delivering an exceptionally strong 30-minute speech denouncing the 2006 coup and the monarchy. She is thought still to be behind bars, although it is not known if she has been formally charged.

SUWICHA THAKHOR - Suwicha was arrested last week on suspicion of posting comments on the Internet that insulted the monarchy. His arrest coincided with a speech by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva saying the law should not be abused.

OLIVER JUFER - The Swiss national was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2007 for spraying black paint on huge public portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. He was pardoned and deported after serving four months.

  10. I have a Brit passport, with a non immigrant O visa that will expire the first week of April.

I can not put 400.000 Baht into my bank account to meet the 60 day requirement and obtain a marriage visa before this visa expires, I have more enough money in a joint account with my wife, and I can transfer any amount of money into my own account in 24 hours.

I would like to extend my present visa for at least 60 days.

So what are my best options, can I get an extension of 60 days in BKK, if I must leave Thailand where would the best place to go to obtain multiple entry one year Non O visa
