  1. You have shit like this happening but yet when a lady steals a bar towel they pretty much ruin her life.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Australian-W...et-t266333.html

Go to the papers and especially the international ones, post the information where ever you can along with the names of the people dealing with it, the accused, police officer and even the prosecutor.

If they can parade people on T.V. when they have been "accused" of a crime then post there information.

Downright despicable, that's why I always say now "take advantage of the Thais" when you can, when you need to buy something try to go the little extra and find a foreigner to buy it from. If they think they are in a financial pinch now the people living here could really put more of a pinch on it. Stop feeding the animal that only bites you.

  2. thanks everybody for being so helpful with the insights.

hubby too feel that 20 mins is really far to walk to the BTS on a daily basis. its just that this particular apartment is brand new and we would be the first person who will stay there so i guess that point is really pulling me towards it.

i only have a budget of THB20,000 for an apartment/condo and apparently with that budget, it doesnt get me much in CBD. my preference was actually siam, rajdamri, phloenchit, asoke, thonglor and ekkamai. but the apartments here are either too expensive for me or too old for my liking.

i am looking for an almost new apartment with modern furniture, decent kitchen for western cooking, internet ready, cable TV option and clean, modern toilet. a lot of the apartments have old wooden furniture which i dont like.

i would love to have this particular place at The Muse if its not too far away. Although now I am concern with think_too_mut's note where it is a holiday home and i wouldnt want to live there.

i am arriving on 25th march and will spend the first 2 days looking at apartment before choosing one that we like. what is the renting market in bangkok at the moment with the economic downturn and all? do we have much bargaining power?

Onnut is OK and pretty safe over the years there have been a few problems and the traffic is absolutely horrable in the mornings. If you like Songkran it is a great place to be because there are thousands of people lining the streets.

Something you said cought my eye:

i only have a budget of THB20,000 for an apartment/condo and apparently with that budget

Well with that kind of budget why don't you rent a two story townhouse? In Onnut you can get a nice one for around 9000 Baht 3bedrooms two bathrooms, with that savings just have the hubby grab a taxi to the BTS. Mornings are pretty tough but the afternoons the traffic moves pretty quickley once you get past the two traffic lights.

  3. It looks like it's not so easy to find web masters in Thailand. Either freelance or employees.

If you have some tips, please help me.

    http://www.thai-freelancers.com/ is poor.

Thaivisa is maybe not the best place to find. If I'm wrong, please tell me and I'll be happy to try.

Another question: what would be a reasonable salary for a web master able to do php, cms and, if gifted, some design?

I have used http://www.thai-freelancers.com/ in the past and have always had good experiences, they do not bullsh@t like some of the other sites that leave 2 year old projects up to make there site look like it is so active when it isn't.

Why do you think it is poor?

I have moved on from there because sometimes freelancers just do not have the time and my needs where much more demanding so I found another you may want to check them out

    www.sharperpaths.com

For the salary that would be hard to say it really depends on what they are coding, a freelancer normally can not do both coding and designing images they are two different areas of expertise.

Someone with mid level coding ability that is to manage the daily web tasks and mid level php functions is about 15,000 to 25,000

I use the above mentioned site for my web master services but my needs are pretty demanding, I pay above 45,000.

A rough estimate would be 35,000 to 60,000 for a good programmer with decent imaging ability.

(The imaging ability normally is the coder having a friend do it for them but is usually included with the costs as long as you don't try to have to many images designed all the time.)

  4. Do not look for any local web designers no matter if Thai or farang...

Check e-lance / get a coder ..... just google for freelance sites and check some of the east European companies.

    Thanks, I go for e-lance.

Like any place if you do not do your own research then you get what you pay for and you deserve what you get.

For those who can not recommend a web designer or graphic designer in Bangkok I am sure you are basing this extensive knowledge on the tons of work you have had done.

Or would it be more fair to say you had a single image or single web page done and like most people who use one of the freelancer websites only wanted to pay $5 for it with 20 revisions because you had no idea what it was you wanted created in the first place.

There are many that would say if you are worried about doing work in Bangkok and are going to go for e/lance or another then they would say you are now not only competing with Bangkok designers bad designers from all over the world.

Does this mean you will not get good work from those sites? No, but just like Bangkok you must ask the right questions and screen them just like you would a Bangkok designer the only difference which to me is a big one you can not meet them face to face. And plan on a budget higher than a $1

Good quality work can be had through these companies

    Graphic design: www.cmykreative.com owner: Chris

Web design, Web Hosting and custom programming: www.sharperpaths.com owner: Gary

Sharper Paths will use an escrow service for deposits so there is no risk there but both companies have extensive portfolios so that would be the first step amongst others.

And yes I have done extensive work with both and just like a post a few above mine would highly recommend these companies.

  5. Forgive me if I missed it I tried to read as much of the thread as possible but it is rather very long.

Has anything further ever come out about this?

Also in some of the beginning posts there was a lot of speculation about the bad and why he would have it on, my thoughts where anyone standing on a bridge might not go through with it if they where looking out because of the height so put a bag on plus he might have felt he didn't want his last views to be that of the fall, just black it all out with the bag.

Just my thoughts if any of this has been answered sorry for a duplicate post but really wanted to know if anything came of this.

  6. I wonder who's yacht it was that caused this

Why? Looking for someone to blame?

It is a maritime accident and unfortunately not that uncommon. Not the fault of the yacht and not the fault of the crew... an accident...sorry mate, no Thai bashing possible here.

    Such an unfortunate loss...RIP

First a heartfelt sympathy to the family this is absolutely heart wrenching and with a responsible captain at the controls was 100% avoidable.

Where do you see anyone trying to Thai bash? Why do you have to bring something up that is so out of what this topic is about?

Just for your mislead ignorance yes there is a such thing as an accident but there is also a such thing as carelessness, obviously you didn't know the difference. So why don't you stop trying to Expat bash?

Any vessel pulling into a docking area is supposed to show the highest degree of care, if the throttle was hit by accident being close enough to a dock to hit it then obviously this is carelessness and criminal.

You and I weren't there and I am sure there are more details to the story such as distance travel, alcohol, etc. etc. so before you go off into your little Expat bashing tantrum just stick to the story.

  7. Section 301 of the Thai criminal code........:

'Any woman , cuasing herself to be aborted or allowing the other person to procure the abortion for herself, shall be imprisoned not out of three years or fined not out of six thousand Baht or both'

The code goes on to give exceptions to the rule, which include medical reasons and offences committed against the woman resulting in pregnancy.

If that is still on the books they are not following it, I forgot where it was but I think it was 22 also there is a huge building for abortions. I know because my secretary had to get one. She didn't have any medical conditions it was just she got pregnant and new she wasn't in a position to keep and raise the baby.

  8. presented Miss Nam Khang (an assumed name to protect her identity)

If it is a falang is name is released so why are they protecting her?

decided that Miss Nam Khang had sexually molested the boy Chujing

But the boys name they release

This country has some big moral issues, he is going to suffer with this for a long time.

he doesn't really know how to manage the thoughts about having sex, plus it was with a teacher, he has let down his family, his teacher has been arrested for being with him, and now that everyone knows who he is they will be staring him down and making him feel like something is wrong with him.

I feel sorry for him, in the next 6 months this is really going to hit him hard.

  9. He was molested? Poor sweat inosent boy just sat there trying to do his home work while this crazy female teacher kept asking him for sex and pushing him till he gave in? Oh and then she kept asking him to do weird things with her.... blah blah blah... what a load of...

Yes she was stupid to get sexually involved with him and she should resign, which she already did on her own.

Any mental distribance in the boys mind was caused by the boy. If he cant take responsibilty for it then yes he will end up with a messed up sex life. Brought about by himself not the woman. Just coz he's underage doesnt mean he doesnt have to take responsibility for his actions. He wont change until he does. But thats his fault not hers. She's messed up her own life a will have to deal with it seperately. But to be charged for sexual assult is nuts.

But then again the western world is full of insane laws and thailand and other countries are expected to follow... Welcome to Planet Earth

Man you are nuts, you have a very disturbed look on life. If you were molested by someone it is never to late to seek help because anyone who could put that kind of pressure on a 13 year old boy obviously has problems.

If you have kids I truly feel sorry for them and hope the neighbors keep an eye on you so whatever has happened to you, you do not pass it on to your kids. Try to break the cycle not add to it.

  10. This really puzzles me.

Parents of the 13-year-old, who was big for his age group.

Why would they even say that? Because he was big it means she didn't know (She was tutoring him) or because he was big it makes it OK?

Maybe they are trying to say his little dinky is bigger than a pinkie?

Please can anyone explain why or what is the point other than trying to make less of an issue out of it.

There is no such thing as consensual sex with a 13 year old and I find some of the comments made here by members really appalling. Think back when you were 13 and how you thought you knew it all but now you can say WOW I didn't know sh@t, well now put that same scenario in a room with a predator and surely you can see the manipulation scenario.

This will hurt him in the short and long run especially in this culture, he will only be know as the boy whom was raped by his teacher regardless if he wanted to be with her or not, even if he wants to try to wear it like a badge.

She took the trust given to her and stepped on it regardless if he pursued her or not she should have taken a stronger moral stance and known it was just his hormones out of control and since his pillow or some hot apple pie wasn't there to hump :o he wanted whatever he knew would put out.

I think this will be more traumatic now it is publicised. These events should be dealt with in more of a reserved manner, better for all involved. Now he will be known as the lad who damaged the teacher and she as the teacher who damaged the lad.

Why would you think that? If it was a falang they would be plastered all over the TV now that it is a Thai and a women let them see they have social issues that need to be dealt with also. But for Gods sake keep the boys name out of it.
