  1. There's a young guy who owns / runs a place called PowerSpeedShop right at the end of Pattanakarn before it joins Onnut. He imports and sells litre sports bikes, and races them too (used to race cars before that). He also has a dyno and has just bought a new one although it was still in the shipping crates when I was there a few weeks back.

Basically he gets orders for bikes and then brings in a container - this is what was on offer for the last lot according to his FB (https://www.facebook.com/powerspeedshop)

    - Bmw S1000RR 2015 : 990,000 บาท

    - Suzuki GSXR1000 2015 L5 : 780,000 บาท

    - Kawasaki ZX10R 2015 : 780,000บาท/ABS 820,000บาท

    - Yamaha R1 2015 : 939,000 บาท

    - Yamaha R1M 2015 : 1,5xx,000 บาท

    / Line : powerspeedshop

Or he's got an old Gixxer (GSXR1000 K6) for sale for THB 380,000 with reg etc.

Doesn't speak great English but he seems like a decent bloke. Maybe worth a visit.

good tip and good shop but the op doesn't like imports.....

  2. That's the way it should be, but as easy as it is to get licensed in Thailand, not everyone is aware of such rule.

I heard there were some changes in testing and examination when one goes to get a new (or re-new) a license, I heard it takes longer and harder to get it, but then @Hili said is was the same as before? So no changes and drivers/riders will no smarten up.

Yes i just renewed my 5 year driving licsense. Process was as always (with the same old lame equipment)

    - Stupid video

    - Color blindness test

    - Reaction test

    - Stereoscopic vision test

    - Pay

    - Done

Maybe the rules for doing a NEW licsense changed; however i just renewed my so i dont know about this.

  3. You can pre order all the latest literbikes through importers as RSD mentioned already; mostly prices compared to official dealers are cheaper but service and warranty could be harder/ worse than through official dealers. Nowadays many of the super car importers in los also imports superbikes - if you need contacts let me know.

On the other hand if you looking for a track bike only you still have the options with older grey imports which are not registred; due no registration they are much cheaper. But you should know about bikes as they can be in tricky conditions; mostly imported in parts and reassmbled by "someone" here.

  4. Maybe they hike the price of the Hyper 821 too?!

While a monster 821 > 500k kinda sucks I can believe it. Because that is the sweet spot for selling these bikes in Thailand. If people are paying it... go grab the money.

The new "SR2" monster - which is really the 796 with some stripes, coloring, maybe some other farkles, I don't know - costs nearly 500k baht. Sometimes more than 500k, depending on the options. Which is way out of range for what you get, a plain old 796. It's a much worse bike than either an 821 Hyper or monster. But they're selling very well.

Thais dont have a clue about these things the only thing they see is Ducati; about 2 months later they will pop up on the 2nd hand market.

Pricing will be intressting indeed for the 821; but looks like Ducati doesnt care too much to disappoint their customers with these stange pricing strategies as we have seen in the past.

However i still like the air-cooled engine and want to keep it; they have its own nice character.

  5. since the law changed and bikes imported by companies without an official import license cant be registered anymore it became a coomplete diffrent story about invoice bikes they are still around but most don't sell/ buy them anymore. also the whole big bike market in the last 2 years changed completley which also makes grey imports less intressting. you can still buy them if you know the risks up to you...

  6. Back to the same old arguments, No I have not got a lot of experience of riding in Bangkok. Obviously its road conditions are totally different to all other major cities in the world and all other parts of Thailand! NOT.

You experts carry on telling everyone how you are obviously the worlds best riders while the accident rate keeps going up.

This is not rocket science, you want to ride faster than everyone else in a built up area?

You are an accident waiting to happen.

Carol as you said you have no clue about riding here so better stop talking, things are different here. And you might not able to get that within your next holidays here; maybe better stay in Europe then where everything is so much better organized and more safe.
