Excellent info guys - many thanks.
My wife and I now have 2.5 yrs to prepare for the FLR..............but no doubt the goalposts will have been moved yet again by then!

I've been successfully using IE to make my 90 day reports since the start of this service but for the last 2 days, instead of the "extranet.immigration.go.th" page I get presented with an error page "Failure of web server bridge - no backend server available"
Is anyone else having this problem? - has the service broken down?

The passport might have, or about to be, expired, but her citizenship doesn't expire because her passport has, that's why an expired UK passport can be used to enter the UK.
I can't give a definitive answer but there's no reason why a an expired passport cannot be used as proof of citizenship, maybe do as you suggest and include a covering note and proof of the name changes.
The guidance states that all documents supported as evidence must be originals and not copies, there is anecdotal evidence which suggests that copies, or printouts, have been accepted, but there is always a risk that they might not be, especially if the application is borderline.
I have lodged three successful UK visa applications, both Visitor and Settlement, and I can confirm that online copies of bank statements etc. are definitely acceptable but MUST be in .pdf format - they will not allow .jpg copies even though they all are, at the end of the day, "hard" paper copies.
I know, don't ask me why!

why are people still complaining about the income level it really has not been set very high and it has been around for a few years now. I would prefer for it to be higher but I dout it will be. If you swap it around you need to show money to stay in Thailand and then that only allows 1 year at a time. So stop moaning about the income level and if you do not earn enough money to statisfy it then simple get another job.
An extremely blinkered and self-centred view.
Just try applying your logic to those (and there are a great many) who are now retired and obliged to live on the pittance that HMG calls a State Pension.................

That's splendid news - my own wife's application is due to be lodged at the end of this month so it's heartening to hear something positive!

Before you all start saying "Well done!" etc., just remember that this rule ONLY applies to genuine non-EU visa migrants, NOT to anyone entering via the EU or via the "Surinder Singh" route, nor the hordes of non-visa, illegal,"migrants" or any so-called refugees.
The current extortionate costs involved in applying for a UK visa plus the other onerous requirements, I believe, will only deter genuine applicants from taking the legal or formal route into the UK...............I would completely agree with this policy if it applied across the board but as it stands it is totally discriminatory against British citizens wishing to bring their non-EU spouses back to the UK.

This is a perfectly legal route (Surinder Singh) but the practicalities of achieving the desired end result are far from straightforward.
The biggest obstacle (and I've researched this, but using France as the entry point) is the UK's unlawful insistence that the couple must prove their "centre of life" was moved to Ireland/France etc. prior to their attempt to enter the UK together, and this is very unlikely to be achieved by a short stay in whichever non-UK country you use for the route.
I strongly suggest using Google to help you get a proper picture of the correct way to approach the problem.

I wonder what impact it will have on the Thai restaurants. I guess, that it will make it very tough to bring new Thai ppl over to replace any that leave.
In my experience a large proportion of UK "Thai" restaurants are staffed by Filipinas, but your point is still well made..........

Well spotted indeed - that's a very pertinent link.

It seems that these Thai quasi-governmental organizations have an ossified culture frozen in time from the 1970s, resistant to change, and staffed by bureaucrats who have jobs for life.
They need an injection of proactive professionals who can keep up with the times, with independent directors who ask the right questions.
..............and the chance of those ground-breaking events happening in our lifetime lies somewhere between "not a" and "sod all".................

I don't understand where this media rights organization is coming from. In the US, a political party cannot own and operate a TV station.
Quite so - it's also pretty bizarre that the military are allowed to own and operate specific TV channels for their own propaganda purposes.........................

"The prime minister further said that he could not stop the next government from amending the constitution as there is no provision in the current draft that prohibits constitutional amendments."
Is there a provision that explains how to amend the constitution?
Yes - it's the section that requires the proposed amendments to be submitted to the military for approval......................

It beggars belief that Thais actually see S.44 as some kind of panacea for all their gripes as opposed to the evil, pernicious power that it bestows on one man....................

The true meaning of the word "charity", in whichever grammatical form it is used, seems to be lost in this supposedly Bhuddist nation.............

Sloppy use of English can easily muddy the issue here........................."Rule by Law" and "Rule of Law" are two entirely opposite concepts.
The former, historically, has been practised by dictators - Hitler and Mussolini spring to mind - the latter is inherent in a healthy, functioning democracy........................oh! perhaps not such sloppy reporting after all....................

"I feel sad to find it's the best Thai educators can come up with"
Suffice it to say that these "Thai educators" have, themselves, passed through the very same failed educational system that they are charged with improving.....................

What so the people of Thailand don't count. It will take an invited scholar to set the agenda?
Invite and welcome critiquing and reviewing of the regime’s agenda and policies from the people in the kingdom without fear of putting the General on a 'Tantrum alert'. Or people are not sent for readjustment for a differing opinion.
This press release really sounds as the NCPO is treating the Thai people with condescension and contempt.
The Thai people have always been treated with condescension and contempt - the NCPO are merely following a well trodden historical path..................

So, all these foreigners will be invited, show up, offer their opinions, then go home. Then the Junta will say: "Waste of time. Stupid farang not know Thainess. We are perfect so we will do it our way."
I think you missed out the A.A. period for the invitees before they are allowed to go home..................

"The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Ratchata Ratchatanawin, yesterday revealed that a lot of Thais suffer from the effects of alcohol withdrawal after the long Songkran holidays. He explained that, for the next 2-3 days after they stop drinking, revelers would suffer from fatigue, frustration, and anxiety attacks."
It's called a hangover doc.
We all get them, not just Thais.
The great leveller, the demon booze.
You really didn't listen carefully to the good doctor did you? - he made it quite clear that, unlike foreigners,Thais do not get hangovers, they merely "suffer from fatigue, frustration and anxiety attacks"...............same, same, but different.

"...Yet it seems like the drafters [Constitution Drafting Committee members] are afraid of democracy. Aren't they able to tell the difference between democracy and the Thaksin [shinawatra] regime? They merely believe that democracy can be used to pave the way for the [Thaksin] regime ... which needs to be eradicated," the former PM said in an exclusive interview with The Nation..."
I am amazed at this comment from Adhisit...a very sane and almost certainly accurate statement.
Irrespective of whether or not you agree with his politics, Abhisit is a very intelligent guy and, having been born in the UK, has had the benefit of an excellent western education.
Sadly, he is one of the very few Thai politicians who actually understands what the term "democracy" means.................

"...............before the case gets out of control"
Call me a cynic, but might read this comment be an instruction to the Land Department that allegations of land encroachment must be carefully vetted so as to ensure that certain toes are not stepped upon?
I can't immediately see how else one would want to "control" such allegations............
