Personally I doubt democracy will ever come to Thailand. That ship sailed for good after the last coup.

It is a renters paradise. I blow into Thailand every so often and spend a few months.

The word is out in Thailand, government hospital or not you will be double , triple, quadruple charged if a farang. The days of Thailand being a retirement destination and good value for money are over IMHO. The pic of him smoking a big cigar and a glass of Vino , and now broke? That pic alone would make me not give a penny. If not insured when traveling you need a minimum of about 100K of funds readily available. Also IMO you need a place in your home country to retreat to when things go wrong. Personally I have no patience for folks that do not plan for retirement and live like there is no tomorrow.

It doesn't matter. Thailand elite will set the course for Thailand and they are Chinese supporters 100%. Personally I will not give Thailand another dollar of my money. The writing has been on the wall for a few years now.

Hummm, I enjoy Thailand sometime. But I live cheaper in the US with better quality food and housing. Fresh air and good roads. I live across from a Thai family and next door to Philippines and you could not pay them to go back.. Different strokes I guess. All the best.

What a mess, I feel for the expats that got sucked in and are stuck there. i have a feeling it is going to be a miserable existence for many expats in the future.

I just did a simple tourist visa transfer into a new Passport about two months ago. What a headache. Thailand is the worst place I have ever visited hands down. Went threw Laos did the paperwork for a two month visa, that was a hassle but doable. Applied for a new US Passport threw the mail.. Perfect no problems with the US embassy. Was in Khon Kean and went to the immigration office there to transfer the visa... NOPE, have to go back to the original office in Nong Khai, Had to travel back to the office where the visa was issued. When there . I had both the new Passport and the old one with the stamp. And I was talking to the same lady that gave me the visa. She said NOPE, I had to have a letter from the US embassy stating I was who I said I was and the visa was just issued... Hahahaha,, Took me three weeks for a new Passport, and three weeks for the tourist visa transfer... To top it off I had all the paperwork I had filled out for my new passport and the paperwork when the new visa arrived... NOPE Thailand joke of the day.

Don't want to get on the bad side of the Saudi's , they will chop you up and send the body pieces out the back door.

This is Thailand , if they cannot screw you then they're not interested.

Actually if in your prime working years it is the best place in the world if you are not lazy. If retired! IMO it is the last place I would want to be premaritally.

To bad you cannot keep paying the extra at immigration with every extension. That would be handy. If it is ever used the government will fleece the hospitals to the fullest. 10-1 the hospitals will not let you in if you don't pay cash. Telling you the government will repay you.

This is Thailand where cash is king, and the paid off house instead of a D-MAX in the driveway is the new norm...

Dang, I am getting all schemed out. Kinda a schematic overload. I think they should give us about a week or two break to get our tolerance back up to normal. Then we can properly receive the next scheme..

I am sure there are a lot of corporations with that much invested. Wonder if that counts.

I think I will buy some land over a garbage dump in the US and build a premium resort. It will have three different themes. 1: Issan theme, every morning and evening I will set fires and blow the smoke over the Issan room. 2: Island theme, I will dump all the sewage into the lake around the rooms. 3: BKK and city theme, I will set up diesel engine belching black smoke and carbon monoxide and blanket the rooms. And of course have one 10 story balcony for the people that want to escape and jump... And charge a hefty price for the Thai experence.

Confused, why would anyone want to go to a polluted cesspool if not cheap! Come live where air pollution alone kills millions and shortens life expectancy by years and pay a premium for that... Difference strokes I guess.
