  1. I was wondering if "ความรักสามารถเกิดขึ้นได้จากคำว่าเพื่อน" is a saying in Thai and if so what is the English equivalent. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    "ความรักสามารถเกิดขึ้นได้จากคำว่าเพื่อน" Actually not a real Thai saying. But some people believe so because there are many examples of friends who later become lovers.

    As a Thai, I have heard this a lot - "ความรักเกิดจากความสงสาร". This also happens a lot in Thai society. As many Thais have soft and gentle mind so when we feel sorry or sad with someone to the things that happened to him or her, you know, one day later that feeling surprisingly turns to love!

    I have no English proverb to compare but I think you can just say "kwam rak sa mart kert kuen dai jak kam wa phuen" as direct English "Love can start from friends."

  2. You guys would love this word when you are in Thailand.

    "Ron tap teak" (ร้อน ตับ แตก) means "It's really hot."

    ron = hot

    tap = a liver

    teak = broken

    As in the weather?

    YES! YOU CAN SAY THIS WORD ONLY WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER. :-)

  3. There are so many to choose from, but probably my personal favourite, is the multi-cultural/international 'feel' of Chiang Mai.

    There are plenty of different farang cultures represented, but also Lanna/central-Thai & the several hill-tribes, amongst the local people, in fact to me it feels a little like a 'small-town' version of London !

    So what's your favourite ? :o

    Cheap Thai food everywhere! :D

    I totally agree with this. This is very true. You can enjoy "cheap food - good taste" everywhere in Chiang Mai.

  4. Yes, ผิว can be used for the surface or coating of things - but not everything. You can say

    ผิวถนน (the outer road surface)

    ผิวน้ำ (water surface)

    ผิวเนื้อ (skin, complexion)

    ผิวมะกรูด (the surface of the Kaffir)

    for example. :o

  5. Hello G.

    please provide us more information what exact you need and i will let you know if we can assist you

    Dear all,

    My wife is a Cambodian national, and unfortunately there is no Dutch embassy in Phnom Penh. Therefore, official Cambodian documents that we need in the Netherlands must be legalized by the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok first, and by the Dutch embassy in Bangkok second. This is a pain, especially since we do not know many people in Bangkok or Thailand. Neither do I know names of trustworthy - as well as price worthy - agencies that could arrange such matters for us. A search on Google did not give me much information either.

    So, we are looking for such an agency. I read there should be a few of them on Wireless Road or Sukhumvit. Could someone give us a few names/addresses of such agencies? or if someone could point us to some lists on the internet...

    Thanks in advance!

    G.
