Regarding the 60 day extension, each office seems to have its own rules. Curently the most commen interpretation of the rule seems to be that you get 1 per entry.

Nothing is 100% as rules change, consulates chang their policy etc, but you should be able to get a single non-O. Do have the birth certificate with you and proof that you are the legal father of the children. If the children already have an ID-card a copy of that would be nice, togehter with copy of tabien baan.

For a work permit you first have to find a job.

60 day is one time per entry but some offices will have other ideas as it used to have "one time" in wording with no definition. That was removed from law; but perhaps not in everyone's mind.

You will not obtain a non immigrant B visa with just a letter in the area AFAIK (full school paperwork would be required I believe). But you should be able to extend your current entry 60 days on basis of being father of Thai children if you have not done that yet (local immigration office and TM.7 at cost of 1,900 baht).

Hi. My 2 week Thai Tourist transit visa will expire 14/5, so I think I have to go out to Laos. I am applying chiangrai schools, but not sure which school yet. I also have custody 2 Thai kids living with me (but no 400k). What visa should I get in Vientienne?

If I get a letter from a school (even if I don’t end up working at that school) that they intend to hire me, can I get the non-B 60 dys, to give time for making work permit in Thailand? Can I get non imm o or b without such an employer letter?

Or may I be able to get a non imm o 30 or 60 dys, (for my Thai kids) even without 400k?

That would be best. It can be the same letter, just the person addressed too is different.

Got from school ....... 1 letter to labor (& got receipt)

went few days early with kid & custody paper - immigr. v. helpful, canceled my stay & about to stamp me but the boss-check saw I already had this 60 day visa a million years ago. They said I can just borrow 400k to show & they will give me 1 year visa extension.

On last day of visa, I went for 2 week tourist visa at border, & they asked 3000bt 6 dys overstay - no prob. back to immigr office downtown & the boss wrote an explanation for them. Now to Vientienne for 60 day tourist or non-imm. Thanks

I (British) live Chiangrai with 2 thai kids. (legal father with sole custody).

After exiting work permit, I want new visa for 1 or 2 months (no 400k).

What is cheapest way, without getting stung by 1 week extension or overstay fees?

Yes you could. There is no requirement for it to be there for any amount of time. But it would probaly help if it was an old account that showed some previous activity.

You could well get a Multi Entry Non Imm O. If not that certainly a single entry or even tourist visas.

1. exit work permit & 2. extension non imm ‘O’:

My work permit & non imm 'O' visa expired on 31/3/09, so on that day I went to the Phrae labor & Nan Immigration.

This is what happened…

1. EXIT WORK PERMIT…….

- get a document from the school to get a tax refund (I got 7000bt refund)

- get the school to fill in exit form (from labor office), with school stamp & Director’s signature

- on last day of contract, hand in this form with your finished work permit at labor office & get a receipt

- then go straight on to your immigration office

2. EXTENSION NON IMM ‘O’……..

- NO for 1 year extension to live with my children without 400,000bt….. & NO EXCEPTIONS, (say their bosses in CM)

- YES for 60 day extension without 400,000bt - 1 time visa 1900bt. (Does that mean once per year?)

- don’t try in Bkk (they said), because u hav 2 apply at the appointed office for your area

Documents…

- receipt from labor office for exit from work permit

- they didn’t ask for any tax things

- Original official stamped letters from both my kids’ school Directors, certifying attendance

- Copy divorce cert.

- Original Thai ampur divorce document & original lawyer company divorce contract…. Open at pages about custody of the children,…. but they read it all (they were amazed). They asked for a copy of both documents.

- Original bank books of 2 Thai accounts & copy of 2 uk bank account statements (they laughed!)

That’s 9 months already at expenses 1+k/m

A few people told me that I can then just keep going in & out every 2 weeks at Maesai (Burma day-pass 500bt) back-to-back ad infinitum (they currently do this).

Can anyone confirm this, please? And is this plan workable?

I forgot to say that I now have Non Imm O, (not Visa.

I called lawyer SUNBELT 02-6420213. He said that I just get letters from the 2 Thai schools, where my children study, (that they are registered there). Then go to Nan with custody papers etc for extension 1 year.

The lawyer sounded VERY sure of himself! So get the school letters Mon, Nan Tues..... then see how it goes...

I will report how it goes of course.

Another thing - I also heard that, being over 50, you can get 1 year visa for your your children supporting (without anyone showing money in bank)..... but I need to wait another DECADE for my kids to start working (shelf that idea!)

I am not on a Tabeean Barn. If you get on Tabeean Barn (yellow), does that help with these?
