  1. Has anybody been to the Major Hollywood place this week? I have to go for a retirement extension in the next few days. I was at the Lad Phrao office on December 2 and it was a madhouse. I would really rather avoid going there again if possible. I was hoping to be able to read some reports here on the situation at the other temporary office. Also any tips on how to get there from the Sathorn area?

I have got my extension, reentry permit and also done 90-days report at Suksawat in total less then 1 1/2 hours today.

From Sathorn get on the highway over Rama9-Bridge exit Suksawat. The Major Hollywood is located right hand after about 1 km.

  2. Why on earth do aliens want to be thai resident, the cost is over half a mill thai baht, other visa per year 2000baht!!.

If over 40years my immigration officer said dont waste yer money, what benifts here everything is a paper trail and ive been here over 20 years no complaints.

I agree far too expensive, I would have to live to over 150 just to break even!

You guis are looking too much on the expenses. If you don’t have a 200k or even not 100k Baht that you can spend for this reason how you can provide a bank account with 400k or 800k for the annual extension. Realise that after the PR has been granted to you there is no more Extension necessary. For the estimation that you would have to live over 150 to get to the break even point you probably just count the 1.900 Baht fee for the extension. Means that you don’t need any documentation from your embassy about your income or they give it to you for free. The side expenses will reduce your necessary live time to break even to half.

Back to the question on top. I did apply in December 2012. The first Interview I have had while submitting the application. With me was a girl from the company’s human resource department. I guarantee that my Suaheli is better then her English. Therefore all the conversation was held in Thai language without any exception. The officer went through the paperwork and had always some questions regarding that. It took in total about 50 Minutes including the short break on that they have taken my finger prints. To me that was no problem at all. Just know what is written on the papers and be prepared to be questioned for that.

About two months lather I had to go to another interview. At this time the officer has made a summary of all my personal matters on one sheet. I had to confirm all of that is right and also the spelling of all the farang names. That took also near one hour.

At the end of the session the officer told me that she voted my Thai language in total with 80%. I did not have the feeling at any time that the two interviews have been the language test. It was just conversation.

Meanwhile I’m invited to be at the immigration again at the end of this month.

  3. If I were you I would try to get a bill issued in your name for the long term. But for the short term couldn't you have her sign some officious sounding letter documenting your long standing living arrangement? Worst case you could even pay a lawyer to certify it. No, I have no idea if those ideas would work, but if I were you that's what I would try first.

OK, I'm holder of a WP and a Thai driving licence (Expiring March 2017) as well. But this are documents issued already long time ago. Is there any other thing that I can show if the immigration wants to see documents for the f...ing 90 day report?

  4. I have been on Friday to the Immigration division 1 at Cheng Watthana Road. The purpose was to ask for some updated information according to apply for the Resident Permit.

The answer of the friendly lady at counter D was in sense:

“The period has not yet been opened and due to a personal change at the head of the department we don’t know jet it will be possible this year or not. Please check our web site for more information in begin of next month!”

Does someone have some more information’s about it?

    Regards

  5. Dear all,

a friend of mine, he is from Germany and in Thailand with the Non – B (not on extension) asked me a question that I could not really answer at the time.

He is in a project with a Thai company and he expects that for the time that the project will be realised he will work in Thailand on this for erection and commissioning with the Thai company. The total time is estimated by now for may be one year or even more.

His Question is: Do I need a WorkPermit to do this? He is self employed in the German company that delivers the know how for this project.

    Any recommendations are welcome!

  6. There are options depending upon your circumstances.

The easiest way is to apply for 12 month extension of stay based on employment if you meet the financial criteria (salary c.50k per month for westerners, but does vary depending on nationality) and your employer can produce financial accounts for the last 2 years. Talk to your employer who should help you with your application to immigration. Fee 1,900 baht. Thereafter you would have to report your address to immigration every 90 days, but with most immigration offices that can be done by post.

The employer must help! On your self you will not be able to do all the needed paperwork for that. It is a pile of more then 1 cm needed documents!

  7. Something makes me wonder. I always thought the maximum amount someone can win is a total of 3 million Baht...? :)

If you buy a ticket usualy then this consitsts already of two (2) tickets with the same number. -> 6 million. If you go to buy 10 of them -> 60 million! Has nothing to do with the draw on 16th or on the 1st!

  8. Hi all,

I have a Thai daughter (3 months old), my current multi non-b runs out in Dec. I am not married to my daughters mother, (neither am i married to anyone else, nor is she :-)

    I have a verifiable pension of £672 a month

What where and how are my best options for a multi non-o (friends and family)

I realise Hull would give me one with no problems, but am looking to not have to go back to the uk and try and get one a lot closer to Thailand.

    Many thanks

In your case is the only option to go on NON-IM O for retirement. You must have a 800,000 Bt / year! Right now I don't know how much is 672 BP in Baht. If it is not enough then the rest you need on a bank book in Thailand!

  9. Hi,

my girlfriend and I are planning to go backpacking across South-East-Azie and Australia.

We'll be starting our 1 year trip in Bangkok, Thailand. We will probably be staying in Thailand for about 3 months and then we travel on to Indonesia, Malaysia and/or Singapore.

Now our main concerns is; are we allowed to receive a Visa for Thailand, if we don't yet have a ticket proving we will leave Thailand?

To re-phrase the question: Do we need a planeticket proving when we will leave Thaliand to receive a Visa?

Hopefully someone can tell me, because I allready found out that this is going to be a problem when traveling to Indonesia.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards,

    Thijs & Natascha

If you want to enter Thailand and you have no return ticket or a ticket to a further destignation you need defenitely a visa for Thailand.

For 3 months a tourist visa should be alright (2 moths + 30 days extension).

For your further plan to travel the airlines are able to refuse transportation if you don't fullfill the (visa)requirements for the next country! For Malaysia and/or Singapure you should not have any problem. Indonesia: Honest, I dont know! For Australia you need an Electronic visa.

  10. Between 3% ~ 7% But if it's your company you should be paying yourself right? I think you should pay tax on 40 - 55K per month depending on you nationality. :)

    I wish.....

The highest tax rate in Thailand is 20 % if you have over 1,000,000 Bt per year. Then you can have some tax reducing issues so that effectiv the rate goes down to about 12 %.

Usualy you have to pay another 300 Bt / month for the health insurance.

Would you care to elaborate on that?

I have just started working so have been investigating this for myself.

Basically I am single, with no kids. The first 90k p/a is deducted from your income for tax purposes - if you have a wife/ kids/ elderly poor parents etc etc you can get a larger deduction.

The next 150k p/a is then effectively at 0%. You are now up to 240k which may explain the lack of knowledge about the tax system, as most teachers won't pay tax.

There is then a sliding scale as follows:

    Next 350k - 10% (150k - 500k)

    Next 500k - 20% (500k - 1m)

    Next 3m - 30% (1 - 4m)

    Anything above that 37%.

My personal tax is alot more than I was lead to believe, maybe my bad for not checking first. I found a good source of info here

    QED,

you are right with your figures. I have done a mistake not looking at the back side of form 91! :D

  11. hi guys

I'm about to get a work permit through my company (2m baht registered)

can anyone tell me what the monthly income tax is likely to be?

are there any other monthly charges fro the employee?

    cheers
