  1. I already found out about question (2) - it seems that a visa change would be possible in Bangkok, but that it is much more difficult with regards to the documents required and asked for by the immigration bureau. Thus, it is probably more hassle free to apply for a new visa abroad.

I have heard that Savannakhet seems to be the easiest place to get it done. However, how about other places?? Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore - any of them recommended?

    ...

Still, I have not been able to find answers to question (1): Does anyone know how long the passport with my maiden name will be valid? And is it possible to use it to apply for a new visa, or do I need to get a new passport first?

I hope anyone of you knows about this. Thanks a lot in advance!

  2. Hello,

I was planning to do a border run to Cambodia in order to activate the third entry of my tourist visa. However, I am not 100% sure about the current situation regarding "in and out" border runs - even with valid visa. Thus, I would like to ask everyone here who recently did a one way visa trip / border run to Cambodia:

    (1) I have read that people sometimes get "I-O" (in-out) stamped in their passport! Have you heard any reports about that?

    (2) With my valid triple entry tourist visa, I should get 2 further months when activating the third entry - EVEN at a land border. Is this correct?

    (3) Anyone who did a border run / visa run to Cambodia recently?? Any problems / suggestions?

I just want to be 100% sure about everything before going there. In the past 8 years, I have experienced too many visa related problems :-(

    Thanks a lot in advance!!

  3. Hello :)

I am from Austria and my boyfriend is Thai. We will register our marriage next month.

I have two questions and I would be glad if you can help me:

    (1) With registering our marriage, I will also change my last name. Do I need a new passport in order to apply for marriage visa, or can I still use my old one?

    (2) I am on a tourist visa now. Can I change my tourist visa after registering the marriage here in Bangkok to Non-Immigrant O, or do I need to leave the country?

Thanks a lot in advance! :-)

  4. Ohh I just saw your reply now. Thank you! :-)

The legal requirement to show 400k exists for men only - but I am a woman ;-)

    I have two more questions:

    1) I will change my name. Do you think I can apply for marriage visa with my old passport after we get married, or do I need to apply for a new one first?

    2) Is it possible to change from tourist visa to marriage visa in Bangkok, or do I have to leave the country and apply for a new visa from abroad as usual? (I have heard different opinions)

Thank you very much in advance! ^^

  5. Hello,

I am from Austria and I am planning to marry my Thai boyfriend.

We have now already gathered all documents required from the Austrian embassy to issue a letter that we are allowed to marry (that is, we have got the "affirmation of marriage" from my home country, and we have my birth certificate, home registration, and - since I am currently working as a teacher in Thailand - a letter from my employer, stating that I am a full-time teacher at the school)

However - here is the problem:

I have only been employed by the school since September, and I am now still on a tourist visa since I just came back from Austria after renewing my passport. My plan was to get all the documents for marriage registration ready and apply for the work permit with the school with the marriage visa after we got married .

We will submit the documents to the embassy next week in order to get the required letter. However, I am now worried there could be a problem because the letter from my employer states that I am a full-time employee, but the visa in my passport is a tourist visa!

What do you think? And what do you suggest??

Thank you very much in advance!

(PS: The documents required for the embassy letter include a letter from the employer OR a bank statement. However, I am not rich and do not have 400,000 thb in a bank account in Austria :-( - and no regular salary besides my work here in Thailand! I know that women normally do not have to show a financial prove - at least for the visa - but I don't know how it works for this letter. Please advise. Thank you!)

  6. 1) Would you consider extending the 7-day visa extension period when changing employers? (It is usually not possible, or very difficult, to arrange all paperwork within 7 days when losing a job! However, it would be illegal for an employer not to cancel the work permit immediately after an employee is leaving the company. It is difficult enough for people when losing a job - and is getting even more difficult when having to leave the country immediately!)

    2) After a single / double or triple entry tourist visa: Is it allowed to apply for a new tourist visa immediately after the last one expired? (if yes - are there any restrictions?)

  7. Hello,

I have been living in Thailand for 8 years. Everything was fine.

Now, I have been out of the country for 1 month - it seems that basically EVERYTHING has been changing!!? sad.png.pagespeed.ce.5zxzyGiJz0.pngcrying.gif.pagespeed.ce.ENG_hyc8Gu.gif

New laws and rules for foreigners are enforced every day (ok - some are old laws and enforced now, and some new laws. but it doesn't matter - in the end, all these changes impact on our life!). I don't know about you - but I am really confused with all this stuff and I have no idea how many different reports I have to do now when I come back sad.png During the past 8 years, I have NEVER seen something like this!! I planned to go back to Thailand as usual, but now I am SERIOUSLY considering packing my stuff, leaving Thailand and moving back to my home country.

So - the reason for this post:

Could anyone pleaseee summarize all important new changes for foreigners in Thailand??

(Please add if something is missing or correct me if I am wrong:)

    1) Condo owners have to report to immigration in case foreigners are renting out their property. (How is this supposed work?? I bet the owner of my condo didn't get notified and has no idea about this! I will state my "present" address on my arrival card. So, what happens if I arrive and my condo owner has not done this report so far?? Btw: in case a foreigner is staying together with a Thai who signed the rental contract - do we have to report this as well? Isn't it enough to file the stupid 90 days report?!!!)

    2) Foreigners have carry their PASSPORT (blink.png.pagespeed.ce.1yRKwuklr5.pnghuh.png.pagespeed.ce.Qq42w7kNaJ.png ) or certified copy (where to get this done??) ALL the time or they may get fined !?!? (!!!)

    3) Foreigners have to report to immigration when heading to another province for more than 48 hours (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    4) Visa regulations ... regarding tourist visa:

I have been on tourist visa a few times before, but I have only used it as a "patch" between other visa's (e.g. a few years ED visa from university, Non-B visa with work permit etc. - and tourist visa's inbetween when changing university, changing employer etc.) ... So, how is this supposed to work from now on?

What happens for example if you lose your job and have to leave the country - will they issue a new tourist visa if you already had a few ones in your passport? You won't get issued two tourist visa's in a row, right? How much time do you need between the visas? Does anyone know??

    ...

All this stuff confuses me a lot sad.png

I don't know about you ... but I have a feeling that many expats are going to leave Thailand soon.

  8. Yes, and you are technically not allowed to work!

If you are young without substantial savings - what should you do ?!

You should get a job in your country and save money to be able to travel later smile.png

That's what most of farangs in Thailand did wink.png

Well, nice advice! How about that: I have been living in Thailand for the past 8 years (Bachelor and Master degree, 1 year working) and my boyfriend is here. So, what?! Am I forced to give up my relationship and life here just because the visa regulations change??

(and don't say "then marry your boyfriend" - because that's not the issue!)

  9. By the way: Any news regarding tourist visa extensions?

I just saw another thread regarding this, but only "single entry tourist visa"-extensions were discussed.

How about extending double and triple entry visa's (e.g. first extension after 2 months, leaving the country after 3 months, coming back)

... I know this might be difficult right now - but what if you don't have any other tourist visa's in your passport?!

  10. I was thinking about getting an ED visa with a language school. But that's an expense and docs won't be ready before I go back to Thailand.

However, I actually intend to find a new job and get a Non-B. (even though I'm worried that, if documentation is not ok when applying for it, it won't be possible to re-enter Thailand crying.gif.pagespeed.ce.kh9vLpJQkU.png)

(And, later on, to marry my boyfriend wub.png ... but I don't want to rush this just because of this stupid visa crackdown!!! mad.gif.pagespeed.ce.z6RtN005qs.gif It's ridiculous!)

,,, Anyway - the changes are a serious problem. I am worrying a lot lately sad.png

  11. I know this topic has been discussed in some other threads - however, there seems to be no special topic on this issue.

I just called a Thai consulate in my home country: They told me that they are still issuing Double and Triple Entry visa's as usual!

However, given the current crackdown, I'm not sure whether it makes sense to apply for one right now, since you can always be denied entry at the border... So, I am wondering why they keep on issuing this type of visa?! Some of my questions are:

    - What are your experiences at the border, using double and triple entry visa's right now?

    - And ... how about this case:

"Let's assume someone has a SINGLE entry tourist visa, and leaves to Laos or any other country to get a Non-B or ED visa approved. In case the documents are not ok, something is missing, or just in case there is another problem and you have to go back to Thailand - will you be allowed to re-enter?! o_O Either on visa exemption, or with a new tourist visa?!"

Please share your thoughts and experiences!

    Thank you!!
