  1. Some useful info here. I'm looking for some info on a related topic. Any help gratefully received!

I am buying a secondhand scooter, Honda Click, from a foreigner who is leaving the country. I will put it in my wife's name as it just seems a lot easier with regard to docs needed.

1 - Does the 'seller' have to be present when my wife and I take the bike to get it registered in her name? Or is there a way around this as he is leaving the country soon.

2 - What docs does the wife need to take? Her house blue book and ID or anything else?

    Many thanks

  2. My wife and I bought our Mazda 3 (2009) on finance from Thanachart bank two years ago. All the finance was in her name. My job is now very possibly moving us abroad and we want to sell the car/stop paying. The outstanding finance is worth more than the car (dam_n interest!), so how best do we go about this? Thanachart own the registration so can we just go to the car tent, sell it and then pay that plus the outstanding amount to Thanachart? Will we need the car registration in advance to take to the car tent?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  3. Hope you can help.

Is there anyway of getting a family visit visa in just a few days? My Gran passed away yesterday and I will be leaving BKK for the funeral. I want my wife to come as she was close to my gran but will not have time to go through the normal process.

She has visited the UK before on family visit visas, who previous 6 month one expired in December.

Is there a way to do this? Can you apply directly to the embassy?

    • If your bank account is held at a bank outside of Bangkok
You can pay the visa application fee by 'bank draft' from any bank made payable to 'The British Embassy Bangkok'. Bank charges for this service will vary. You should bring your bank draft with you when you visit the visa application centre to submit your application

There should be no problem as long as you get a 'bank draft'. This is what I did in November from a Kasikorn Bank in Rayong. I will be doing the same today and the wife will hand it over on Tuesday. I'll write again if it is rejected. But according to their regulations it should be ok.

  4. Thanks for all the tips on this thread. I was wondering on the amount given on home loans. If it is possible to use my income as a guarantor, how much could we borrow? As a rough guide the wife takes home 20,000 thb after tax and I bring in 92,000 thb after tax? Before we start going to banks and looking at condos we'd like to know roughly the price of the property we could expect to purchase. At present our down payment is only about 150,000 thb but this will soon be closer to 250,000.

    Thanks for your help

Not enough savings. You will need at least Bt400k as down payment for a new studio if it is to be near to BTS or MRT.

Well the BTS or MRT don't get anywhere near me down here in Rayong province. Would our income and savings rule us out of any kind of home loan?

  6. I'm a teacher at an international school outside of BKK. I was looking at this school as I wanted to move back into the city. Does anyone have information on class sizes? number of pupils? There is very little information on their website, and still only computerised images of the place........

  7. Your wife is the applicant, any reference to "spouse/partner" means you.

The application form should be signed of course, but nothing else does.

Thanks for your reply. I'm still a bit unsure on this though. As it mentions UK spouse, which is me in Part 6 so if all references to spouse meant me wouldn't they use UK spouse/partner for all?? Sorry If I have really missed the boat on this one!

From the VFS checklist for a family visit visa.

5 Letter of explanation from spouse/partner outlining relationship/circumstances in Thailand etc.

6 A copy of UK spouse/partner’s passport which include the biodata and all immigration record pages

7 Evidence of spouse’s ability to return to Thailand (e.g. employment contract in Thailand/letter from employer confirming employment in Thailand and visa)

    Thanks

  8. Dear all,

I have a quick question about some of the document on the UK family visit visa checklist. I'm properly being stupid but can someone let me know if I have got this right. I'm a bit confused about which document needs to come from me and which from my wife. She is booked into see VFS on Monday so any help is very much appreciated.

5 - Letter of explanation from spouse/partner outlining relationship/circumstances in Thailand etc.

    Written from my wife?

7 - Evidence of spouse’s ability to return to Thailand (e.g. employment contract in Thailand/letter from employer confirming employment in Thailand and visa)

    From me?

One final thing do we need to sign every page of everything as I would when getting my work permit extended etc?

    Many thanks

  9. Hi, I am getting tired of making the trip to Villa/Foodland in Pattaya and was wondering if anyone knew of a decent outlet for western food in the Rayong area. Ban Chang is pretty devoid of this kind of thing, unless i am missing something, Tesco's very little, Kitsch Friends looks basically run down and ready to close. Is there anywhere in Rayong? I saw that Tops has closed recently.

    Thanks for the info!

  10. Sorry but one of the previous posters is totally wrong. Regents did not lose the 'international' name because of a name conflict. It can not be called an international school anymore as more than 50% of its students are thai nationals, thus it is just a fee paying school following a foreign curriculum. It does not fit the international status required by the MOE of Thailand. Further to that a good indicator of a quality school is it's exam results, not he only way obviously but it's a good indicator. On those grounds Garden International School is the best performer in the region, with St Andrews behind and Regents a long way off. The advantage of Regents is the location but this is really ease for parents rather than about the children. I've experience of all the local schools. Go and visit, get a feel, let your children feel the atmosphere. I guarantee it won't be Regents that is picked!

  11. Looking to raise a small amount of capital.....about 350,000-500,00 is there any (reputable) private finance available for farang......in the same way as you'd go to a loan shark in N.America. I do understand the pitfuls of this, but I'm just investigating as it seems too hard as a farang to raise capital for main stream thai banks.

I'd be interested in any thoughts

  12. My girlfriend and I are very interested in opening a language school on the Eastern Seaboard. The idea would be for English language courses and also Thai language courses.

I do not want to be owner of the business, it can all be in her name. I have my own job and work permit. However I do have a few questions, which, I hope some of the experts out there can help us with.

Can a language school open without registration from the MOE?

As we are only going to be a small operation we do not need full time teachers. I understand that we'll need to arrange work permits for any work taking place..........but are there different rules for language schools as the 4/1 thai to farang will be hard to make the concept financially viable?

Are any of the language school franchises worth pursuing?

I look forward to your educated replies.

    Banchang Bob

  13. Thanks for the responses so far.

So as long as she doesn't make over one million baht a year there is no need for registration? Not even to register the name? And this complies with all tax regulations?

I just want to make sure she doesn't get 'stung'. We both work full time at the moment so are doing the research in our spare time, the idea of her being able to simply get on with her proposal with out registering it is very appealing at present, and then if it is a success I guess she can register then.

    Anymore feedback is appreciated.

I know I should read Thai, but can't very well, is there an English language website that explains law for sole proprietor business start for a thai national?

Thanks again for your help and I look forward to anymore advice.

    Bob

  14. Hi

My girlfriend, a Thai national, wishes to start her own business. It is based around the idea of logistical services for teachers. She wants it all to be set up legally. This will be her own business and will not employ anyone else. Please can someone show us the exact process so I can show her/understand what she is going through. Also how much is it going to cost her and is it better to ask a legal firm to do it all for her in the same way they would setting up a business for a foreigner?

Thanks for your help, and I apologise if I have missed similar information elsewhere on this forum.

    Regards

    Bob
