  1. Just returned using the Savan Vegas Visa run package. Successfully obtained Spouse O, 1 year Multiple Entry Visa; didn't even have to visit the embassy once! What a dream!

I provided copies of passport, marriage certificate, wife ID card, House registration and Thai bank book.

The staff of the Casino take care you like a VIP handling all formalities border and visa formalities. I stayed at the hotel on a 2 night package (2,199) which includes all meals, internet, a free massage 90mins, and some gaming vouchers.

Van pick up from Nakhon Phanom airport is only 1000 return. I managed to book an Air Asia flight to there for only 900baht!

I would recommend using this service, its excellent value for money.

  2. Just got back from a visit to Sanum Luang/ Tha Prajan / Flower Market Area.

The army / BMA has built high concrete speed humps / dykes on the road to essentially dam most of the water flowing from Tha Prajan. As such there is little flooding around the Grand Palace today compared with early days but the water level is deeper on Tha Prajan Road, almost waist-deep.

Further down at Pak Klong (Flower Market) the water just overlflowed the wall in front of the water gate a few cm at high tide, so the area was just spared any flooding again.

I will load up the photos this morning and video in this online gallery: http://smu.gs/nQ0K0j

  3. I ventured down to Chinatown this morning (29Oct) during the time of the river high tide.

The water level varied between 30cm to 70cm. Rivers of cars were replaced by torrents of water; Bangkok was once again resembling it's old tag of "Venice of the East' before the canals were filled in to make roads.

Despite the flooding, spirts in the community were still high and as you can see food vendors were still selling their wares to customers. Some Monk photo-journalists also appeared on the scene with some very impressive equipment!

You can view my image gallery here (which also has some flood-related photos from the past week):

My area of Sathorn/Narathiwas (Yannawa) is very dry all the way to the river. There is a small breach though about 200 metres down from Wat Yannawa on Charoen Krung which was heavily sandbagged and pumps working frantically.

The klong that runs down the centre of Narathiwas Road is still at its normal level and lovely black color.....!

  4. I have just recently returned from Singapore and successfully obtained a 1-Yr multiple entry Non-Imm "O" (Thai Spouse) visa. I am an Australian passport holder, age <40, Thai wife, and still had a valid Singapore Employment Pass.

On the basis of what other contributors had warned (including some advice from local Thai Visa agents), I ended up preparing a lot of documentation that in the end was totally unncessary such as personal history, letter from wife, wife's house registration, documents evidencing previous employment in Thailand, photos of residence in Thailand, marriage photos, etc. Some had also mentioned that Signapore does not issue multiple entry visas - wrong! (They even display a fee for a 3-year visa).

The friendly Malay-muslim office at the counter quickly looked through all the documentation and picked out only what she needed:

    (1) Confirmation of ticket to Thailand.

    (2) Marriage certificate in Thai and translation (both copies)

    (3) Copy of wife's ID card.

    (4) Completed form with 1 photo.

    (5) Copy of my valid SG employment pass.

I also bought a recently updated Thai Bank Book showing funds well in excess of THB 1 million. She looked at this and made a note.

Spent at total of 15 mins at the embassy. I got my Visa, they got a $250 (which is higher than the fee for a PR application in Singapore - extortion!) That was basically it.

Something that was alarming was the rather racist manner in which non-Caucasian visa applicants were treated by the Thai-Chinese(?) officer that roamed around the queue. She yelled at them "WHAT DO YOU DO IN SINGAPORE?"; and "YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY TO GET A TOURIST VISA!" Amazing way to increase visitor numbers to Thailand!!
