  1. Provincial public health chief Dr Phoomwich Kwanmuang said he had sent a team to check on the hospital. “We have to step up safety measures. The cooler should have a warning sign.”

    --The Nation 2005-09-26

WARNING! This cooler KILLS! To avoid death please wear shoes.

But you must love the attitude - let's not fix the problem, let's put up some signs instead!

Guess small children who haven't learned to read yet just have themselves to blame..........

  2. Back to the thread; gold is going up WORLDWIDE so do some silly gov people really think they can make the gold price go the OTHER way? :D

Amazing Thailand... oh; they COULD ofcourse subsidize the local price - that worked SOOO well with diesel/gasoline! :D

Well I am sure it would win a few votes :o

Hang on - TIT - stranger things have happened...... :D

  3. With all the governments around the world sitting on large national reserves of gold, and more often than not looking to liquidate these assets (without casing a crash), the price of gold is currently artificially high and as such is not a good long-term investment.

Try to explain that to your tirak, though..... :o

  4. Although the whole thing is a bit iffy. 266666 share is only about 0.04% of the total number of shares offered, and apparently there were still shares available to Egat staff.

However, giving the EGAT staff preferential treatment is a bit questionable, especially since the price is ridiculously low. 522 million shares at 10 baht a piece, is 5.2 Bn baht - surely the value of EGAT holdings are well in excess fo this?

  5. Very close to real life, but according to the people I have met, I look less like the smartass I come across as than they thought. :D

But how do you act, MS, how do you act.....? :D

As for me, people I have met say they really liked me on the net, but find me an ugly, arrogant, psychotic SOB with violent and sadistic tendencies and an offensive body odor in real life.

But they often compliment me on my honesty..... :o

See you at the Xmas party! :D

Have a shave, a wash, and a Valium before you leave home! :D:D

Unlikely - washing and shaving always puts me in a bad mood and valium spoils the fun! :D

  6. This might be a long shot, but I'm trying to find a chin-up bar, you know the ones that fit inside a door frame. Has anyone ever seen these for sale anywhere in Bangkok?

    cheers.

I haven't seen any, but I doubt if many door frames here could take the pressue anyway. You may be better off joining a gym, but then again, you have probably considered that already.

  7. Market forces sure,  you keep the poor poor.  You pay them a pittance so they are all too scared to demand more.  I don't know how the 'free-market' model sorts out the massive wage disparity problems.  I thought that is where gov'ts come in to create some sort of balance.  One thing is for sure 'the tickle down effect' is bunk.

I believe the 60k minimum wage has something to do with being american.  If your aus or uk then it's 30k.  Is that right??  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Disclosure:  I work in the out provinces so 240k a month is extra impressive from where I'm standing.  (Have to consider how much the hotel garbage man gets a month too though  :o )

So what kind of market do you think would do the solve the poverty problems - socialism?

  8. In my own view most of the farangs I see coming here are some of the same ones I see in Pattaya or Patong...  Loud, fat, bald, smoking, rude, tattooed jackasses that have come because they think that Ubon is an extension of Pattaya and they will find some drop-dead gorgeous Isaan girl that is just dying to jump in bed with their degenerate selves.... or they are here because they met a whore in Pattaya, BKK, Patong or Samui and are back here to meet the girl's parents and family.

    Vern

I can see why you don't meet very many people. So can anyone prove this <deleted> wrong? Are there any of you in Ubon that do not fall into this catogary. I certainly wouldn't want to meet someone with a view as biased as yours.

Well if you are in Ubon, why not register yourself: http://www.frappr.com/thaivisa

  9. Surprisingly AIDS does not cause death directly, but indirectly through weakening body immune system. Other illnesses can then take over and cause death such as pneumonia, cancers and TB, that in a well person could be fought off. Therefore in most advanced countries cause of death is shown as for example: TB as an AIDS related illness.

Dont forget the simple but very real diagnosis of death is the heart stopping functioning - every other death is related to something causing this to happen - it is for that reason that people can be kept alive for years IF the heart is working - anything stops the heart working and you die - simple really.

Besides, HIV is not very infectious - you've got to work pretty hard to get it.
