When everything is said and done these kids, if it’s their first non-violent offense, they probably gonna get a very firm wrist slap and as long as they keep their nose clean after, they should be ok.
Na - they need to be made an example of and go to prison for years. What they did Is criminal. With the world turning more and more digital /crypto/ blockchain / fintech / DeFi the cost for security because of these criminals is staggering. The damage they can cause is enormous if somebody robs a house, store or a bank or an online account / wallet -a crime is a crime. It will get worse and worse if there is no strong deterrent -the use of digital assets/contracts will grow enormously in the near future and it needs to be secure from these a..holes. The world is watching China rolling out its government crypto currency on a big scale as we speak. Using digital assets going cash less will be an enormous challenge especially for the older generation they will be most vulnerable to these hacker-gangsters who think robbing other people of their hard earned assets is cool.

While I do not want to defend Triumph - it is the government and Thailand’s weak labor laws which allow such action.

Not a hack really they just conned security credentials out of Twitter employees. And not a word about those stupid enough to transfer their BTC to strangers.
Who in his right mind - even if it came from “celebrity” accounts sends money purely on the promise of getting returned more? The classic Nigerian scam just Hightech!
So let’s see people: I am a billionaire and I will send you my bank account (or wallet) sequence and if you transfer any amount to me I will send you twice as much back!
Hurry up because I am doing this only for the next 30 minutes!!
How many people are really stupid or greedy enough to do this? Obviously quite a few. One even tweeted Musk demanding his BTC!

Meanwhile in Dubai - Thaksin takes a sip from his glass of champagne spreads a bit more caviar on his blini while laughing out loud reading this news article. Now compare this court decision to the one the powerful crooks behind the scenes arranged for him in his assets declaration case whereby “accidentally” billions where held by the maid and gardeners.
The Thai judiciary is nothing but a cheap corrupt tool for the crooks running things from behind the scene.

Why would anybody go to the beach there? Last time I swam in the filthy water in Jomtien I caught a skin disease!

This has nothing really to do with a “crypto currency” this is the Orwellian attempt of an authoritarian regime - just like the Chinese CCP -attempting to gain total control over their citizens by abandoning cash and gain total control over their financial assets. The original idea of a crypto currency was exactly the opposite!

Is Thailand introducing communist style price controls with a fascist government now ? Last time I checked we had a free market economy!?

The huts and bungalows were still owned by the locals.
In the 90s, sfter the airport was built (a death knell) the rich Thais and international investors moved in and completely changed the look and feel of the place. Professional expat types opened property agencies in cahoots with the Thai mafia who arrived from the southern provinces. The local police became an extension of the mafia.
Once a dream island was destroyed by greed as they coveted high end tourists.
Been back once since 2000 on a big bike southern tour and just stayed the night. Couldn't wait to leave.
Looking at those images in the OP, all I can think of is som nam na.
I so agree with you! When I arrived first on Koh Samui in 1986 they picked you up in a samlor taxi and drove from beach to beach and stopped at various bungalow resorts. The driver made sure everybody got their fair share of visitors. We opted to ride to the very last resort on Chaweng beach. I think the name was Matlang Resort - owned by a local family the bungalows where made from coconut tree wood and there was no electricity. At Dawn you could sit at the lovely beach side restaurant and they switched on the generator which was enough to brighten up the restaurant and run 1 fan and 2 light bulbs in your bungalow. The island was lovely back then but funnily we felt like it had already been spoiled hahaha - because we arrived from Tioman Island where we shared a stretch of 3 different beaches with maybe 15 other people for a month! No electricity at all there just open fires and oil lamps. What a wonderful vibe when we sat together in the evenings -travelers and the few locals - and exchanged travel and other stories. The food menu was usually a single choice (fish, seafood alternated sometimes with chicken) prepared by the local family. Reading some of the comments here about Koh Samui I think I did the right thing and never returned and kept it like it was in my memories.

Oh it has a lot to do with the original.
Not really - it’s a cheap replica as you can find in the attached article. In fact many Chiang Mai people firmly believe that the governor who authorized the demolition of the original had to die in the Lauda Air Crash because he provoked and upset the spirits guarding the city.

The Thapae Ancient Gate? It’s a cheap replica - a fake built in1985 that has nothing to do with the original.
And how exactly to they kickstart the tourism industry without tourists?

How can Bangkok be expensive? I invited my (very rich) ex boss and long time friend to visit and after a few years he finally agreed to stop over on a business trip. Arrived last year this is what he had to say with a smile - “If you see it realistically it’s a stinking filthy dump without culture and the quality of life of a giant slum. No fancy new high rise condos or 5* hotels can cover that up.” So this is the objective view of a person who did not really want to visit - only visited here as a favor to me. I was shocked and realized that a might see Bangkok and Thailand through some kind of rose colored glasses still after all these years.

Yes it’s a total mess. Both my licenses - motorbike and car have expired and there is no way you can get into the online cue. The application will not accept your passport number which is also printed on your driving license - the online application accepts only the 13 digit Thai ID card numbers.

They did not sell even 4% only reduced their share to just under 51 % - the entire saga is nothing but a smoke screen - it’s a bailout nothing else.

Anybody in Chiang Mai who is trading in the SET?
Would love to meet somebody who does- to discuss and get some info of a well versed investor.
Great opportunities to invest coming up for sure once we hit bottom.

Why would that still be necessary ? Haven’t they announced a few days ago with great fanfare that Thai doctors have miraculously found the cure for the virus and patients where cured within 48 hours? They don’t even believe that BS themselves don’t they?

A condo I lived in recently refused to give back my deposit, reason being that he didn't have the money to pay me back
I wanted to write a bad review on google but my partner said I can't. Will I end up in the monkey house or face deportation for doing so?
Contact the office for consumer protection - they will help - the police are useless.

Use a fake name, post through a VPN to hide your IP address, and don't give an specifics that would link the review to you. Then give them both barrels. But seriously, in Thailand even if what you say is 100% true it can still be defamation, especially when a farang is saying it. But if they can't trace you I'm not sure what can happen to you, almost certainly nothing.
A genuin complaint is a complaint - go to the community tap of the Power Buy Facebook page for example and tell me if you find any positive comments at all.

My understanding from reading on TV is that Chiang Mai immigration mandates a TM30 be submitted if you have traveled out of your home province or simply been away from your registered home address for more than 24-hours. This appears to a source of 'sound and fury' for those that do travel a bit more domestically, go visit friends, don't stay in hotels, etc..
Reading in TV ? Have you been there?
You are not only wrong - and I wish people would stop spreading false information and hearsay!
Having read something on TV from people who have read something somewhere else !
Chiang Mai immigration specifically advises people at the TM30 desk to report for an update only when their address changes and when returning from abroad! Period!
And don’t try to tell me any different because I have just updated my TM30 2 weeks ago and a friend of mine 4 days ago who received the same information / advice from the IO in charge! So here you have first hand information and not something someone wrote or read somewhere!

You have missed the 427 threads about people being refused 90 day reports and extensions until a TM30 is done.
If immigration were happily giving extensions and doing 90 day reports, and never asking for a TM30, there would be no TM30 issue.
Why would you need a TM30 to do a 90 day report? Just do the 90 day report online.

But immigration will refuse his extension if he doesnt have one, it soon becomes his problem.
He does not need a TM 30 If he stays at a hotel at the time he extends his visa.

Why would you need a TM30 for a 90 day report?
I have done my last 5 - 90 day reports online and it took me about 5 minutes and of course they can not ask you for a TM30 online.
I only see immigration once a year to have my picture taken when I extend my retirement visa for another year and have an agent take care of it - or if I return from abroad to update my TM30 which takes about 10 minutes.
Looks like this TE program I was looking at a few years back is nothing but lots of promises and a waste of money?

Maybe I wrote in a confusing way........... I did not use an agent for the extension or in my many attempts at a fix. The original Retirement VIsa was via an agent and was not an issue. Forgetting to renew the re-entry stamp was. For the fix, I did finally use an agent as no other alternative was available given the nature of my lease and from what I was told and observed, the agent business is alive and well.
Huh?? You rendered your retirement extension void by leaving / returning without a valid re-entry permit - that’s the way it is.
All you needed to do is start the process of a new extension based on retirement by turning your 30 day entry stamp into a non immigrant stamp at the local immigration office by starting the application for the retirement extension all over again.
And what has you renting from a Chinese guy and the TM30 got to do with you loosing your retirement extension? If the owner lives in China the agent who rents the condo to you has to file the TM30 for you.

I would say you check into the hotel the day or even better book 2 nights before you do your extension and give the address of the hotel you are staying in when you apply for your extension and you should have no problems.
You are covered y the hotel reporting your stay - and if the owner of the condo did not report your stay previously it’s his/ her problem not yours.

Agree - same here if they do not simplify the process nobody will come. Quarantine is necessary yes but the rest should be as simply and straight forward as possible. But they have fooled around for too long now and this years “high season” is not going to happen which will be devastating for the tourism industry. They can forget regular tourists. No tourist will go through this process and into quarantine spending their short holiday mostly in quarantine. The worst is the government’s flip flopping for months and total absence of a plan they have lost the long stay tourists now who usually spend the winter here. Losing us all our regular long stay guests- who are mostly retirees-they say they understand the need for the quarantine but can’t be bothered with the rest- all the red tape, conflicting and constantly changing information from Thai consulates and arrogance at embassies - leaving us without income after having invested millions over the last few years. Our last international guests left in April - no bookings since then. The biggest resort / retreat in the area which was busy all year round has closed down 4 months ago and laid off 160 employees - a devastating blow to many families and other small businesses in the surrounding villages.
