  1. Surely for Western families the best they can do for their children in education is far and away from the shores of Koh Samui. Koh Samui "schools" simply do not have the resources to offer children especially of senior school age the facilities to push them towards higher education.

  2. Bang Rak is notorious for its availability of spit roasts from quite early in the day.

For excellent spit roasts in BKK too try soi 7 1/2....delicious especially lunchtime when you can have pick of the best early on, before they have seen too much heat and been around and around a few times........

  3. After having read this topic I couldn't stand not to sign up and show my opinion.

I'm a 100% Thai mother who sends her kid to Blue Water. Funny is I've understood, since I got the first letter that came with the invoice, that if you pay on time (1 month earlier to the opening of new coming semester) you'll get a 5% discount, not like they just offer this deal after they got negative feedback from some parents. So if you want 5% discount...pay on time... or read more clear as you are all native English speakers I guess.

So from the beginning it's only a 2.5 % increase, with 5% extra if you wish to pay late. Sounds reasonable to me in the current economic climate. I'd rather have my kid in a school with good facilities which is financially healthy than in a school which is nothing more than a Thai public school with English teachers and which has to rely on donations to survive. I have seen what stress many kids and parents got when they had to move from Open Gates when the money ran out and hate to see this happen to any kid or parent. So my money is with the school that has most chance of supplying my kid with quality education now and in the many years to come.

Could you qualify "quality education" please.

  4. Unfortunately crime is on the increase as people feel the pinch. Set you house up as secure as possible (or visibly more securer than than your neighbours). Other forms of theft will be an increase in driving incidents/accidents with the locals, poor attempts at surcharging, extortion from Samui "lawyers and accountants" (used very loosely) and just the general feeling of poor quality and premium pricing.

This is not St Tropez this is Samui........and to be honest today it looks like a shit hole in the rain!

  5. Planning our exit stratedgy from Bluewater as all of this, observations and looking at alternatives away from Samui makes us painfully and extremely concerned about the inadequacies and limits to resources of "schools" on the island. Youth club or day centers would be a more accurate and less misleading description of "education centers" on the island. However if you wish your children to miss out on key area's of their curriculum, be inaffectively taught/ assessed and all this being applied by poorly managed, governed or assessed teachers, keep going. The cost is simply staggering compared too compared with schools available off Samui who offer resources, direction and historic performance tables. For some judgement will come too late and their child will be unprepared for further education away from Samui.

  6. Jeremy, sorry headmaster BluewaterSamui your silence is deafening. What compensation consideration are you giving to existing school childrens parents for the sudden change in dynamics of your school whilst tapping up potentail new students?.

Charity and public service my arse, profiteering and speculating more likely.
