  1. The solution is to have routine sting operations in this area. The police will be able to catch a few pervs and criminals, while having all taxi drivers think twice before committing these offenses.

I wonder if the these criminals even know what the typical sentence is for such crimes. Seems the news reports never mention or follow up on their stories. There is no deterrent for them. Maybe Thai victims should start thier own vigilante squad. :)

  2. Chick Magnet??? :)

    Fridge Magnet ? :D

Money magnet? Does Gold stick to him as he passes along doing his duty to preserve good order?

Actually, he's the ultimate detective. With the looks of Tom Selleck (Magnum PI) and intellect of Joe Friday (Dragnet)...Mag-Net!! :D

  3. I haven't seen this much vehement trash-talk between Euros-Yanks-Aussies on this forum in awhile (Farangs) :) It certainly makes for a more entertaining Forum, as it was getting boring reading about the Reds and the Yellows :D

Personally, I wouldn't stay at the airport if it was clear that no flights were available for an extended period of time--even if they were giving out blankets and provisions--descent lodging can be had for as low as $15 USD around bangkok. Perhaps, they enjoy the social ambiance of being able to complain to one another about thier sorry situation--like a Pub without beer? :D

Most of these stranded passengers chose Thailand as a vacation destination; they should've made the most of thier situation by extending their vacation so-to-speak. They've been given the perfect excuse for not having to not return to work!

  4. He also added that tickets for the last few chopper seats from the roof of the US embassy have been selling rapidly and it is wise to book early to avoid disappointment. :D

Due to cost reduction implementation Mr Quentin Quayle has announced that there are no arrangements in place for British ex-pats but it is planned that their bones will be sold off as fertiliser to a local agricultural conglomerate to defray embassy operating expenses. Embassy staff are expected to use Gurkha security employees as bearers to carry them to the safety of the Malayan Border where a nice cup of tea and tiffin will be available. :D

I think its the other way now. The refugees from the financial are headed there by the plane load. :)

  5. Some 500 facebook's anti-red page gather at Victory Monument

BANGKOK: -- Some 500 fans of the anti-early House dissolution and anti-red shirts page of facebook gathered at the Victory Monument at 2:10 pm Tuesday.

The fans of the page organised the gathering at through the page to show their support for the government and oppose the red-shirt movement's call for early House dissolution.

During the gathering a group of red-shirt motorcyclists rode past the group and the two sides hurled abusive words against each other with no violence.

THE NATION: Facebook fans of anti-House dissolution page will gather at Victory monument again at 2 pm.

    This could turn nasty ...

It would be a rout. Computer facebook nerds versus country farm boys :)

  6. This is an easy question. The US is much cheaper.

Best camera in this price range sort of depends on what is important to you i.e. size, picture quality, features.

For $400, I suggest the Canon XS DSLR--great picture and interchangable lenses.

  7. Intersting use of latin, with an apt nick.

Cerbera is the latin name for a plant genus which has the unusual trait of having all of its parts (leaves, flowers, root etc) as being poisonous.

The genus itself is named after Cerberus, the three headed dog in Greek mythology who checked that none but the dead may enter hel_l, and also make sure that no one left hel_l. He was a susbtantial failure at even that as Hercules, Hermes, Orpheus, Aeneas and a host of others managed to get in and out past this rather pitiful creature.

Nice post. Good lesson in Greek mythology...and, quite a put down..."substantial failure" :)

  8. There are some horrible people in every town in the world.

I think someone got it right above. The OP should go back to the west for a couple of weeks. It will surely cure what ails him.

The OP is now in a lovely place with charming people around, will not tell you where but it is but not to fare from Huahin, regarding the west, i do travel there sometime.

I let you deal with touristic towns who take tourists as shit i you like them! But not for me, read the post above / above, some get it right as well.

Happy, you happy where you are, and do not tell me where I should go!

Stay away from the place like Phuket / Huahin / Pattaya, live this to ignorant and unwell travellers, find yourself nice places, it do exist in Thailand !

Perhaps the problem is just mis-communication? :)

  9. While it's easy to say she tossed her life away, know that it's not uncommon for gangs / mafia, especially Asian and African, to force these young girls to do this. I have no idea her case, but I've read about many cases where they threaten to kill their famlies and so on. Very sad stuff.

The sad part is, every government knows about this, and the prisons around the world are full of poor women (and stupid ones) who have been caught doing this.

The fact that "cops were tipped off" tells me they used her to take the fall so that many others carrying drugs would pass without fail. That is the typical decoy system used, and the cops are too freakin stupid to ever catch on. They probably let millions of dollars worth just slip through as while they were looking for this desperate Filipina, who will now spend the rest of her life in prison, while the African gang she did this for will continue to gather off Soi 3 and sell their drugs without problems, and usually on overstay and here illegally. It's the same story with this type of African in every country. I'm not sure why the police here do not do sweeps of that area, as they do in Hong Kong, and deport those who are here illegally, as you can count on them being up to no good.

The police used to sweep Soi Africia (3/1) every couple of month then the raids suddenly stopped. For the past year they have spread unchecked up to Asoke where the drug trade florishes and any crime remains in plain view. Lower Sukhumvit rightly deserves it's title "Bangkok Sewer".

Yes, they used to exterminate the rats in the Sukh 3/1 nest quite often but there seems to be more of them than ever these days. Huay Khwang , Din Daeng and Petchburi Rd seem to have growing infestations as well.

Sukhumvit is becoming too Nigerian. If i walked passed a policeman next to 5 Africans on Soi 3 at night, they would search me, examine my visa ans give me a urine test while bowing to the Nigerians.

:D:D Oh you werent kidding, were you? :D . Packs of them around Petchaburi garment district just hanging out on the street trying to pick pocket tourists. Seen the same thing happening in Hong Kong, but not as prevalent since they're actually doing something about the problem. Bad image of Thailand for tourists for sure. :)

  10. Such a low amount to be "ripped off" for the customer should have just chalked it up as a learning experience. Anyway, this was a breach of contract. In this case, the Tuktuk driver should have just called the tourist police on the passenger, instead of beating him up.

  11. Perhaps all the speculation will be resolved soon. :)

"LOS ANGELES – David Carradine's family members, dissatisfied with Thai investigators and "profoundly disturbed" by the publication of a forensics photo in a Bangkok tabloid, are seeking help from the FBI and an independent pathologist...famed forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden..."

  12. Here's one more possible Scenario:

Hotel offers one of its "exclusive services" to the movie star. Perhaps a girl employed or associated with the Hotel. Things go wrong in the middle of the "service".

Hotel deletes the real footage to remove and covers all evidence. Has newbie cleaning lady to checkout the room.

    Plausible? :)

  13. I've met my Thai girlfriend 1,5 years ago on my vacation to Thailand. Since then i've been there a few times ( fuc_king alot of money ) and lately, she was here in the netherlands on a visit. We talked alot and promised to each other to start a future here. She just got back last friday the 20th and got the Inburgeringsexamen NL at the embassy. And now we'r talking on Skype or MSN and she starts to hesitate like: honey i'm not sure. Money of Survival is will choose number 2. When I sad goodbye to her at the airport we made a promise. I will stick to it, but someway in my head i was thinking she does change her mind again ) I'm going bad financial here because of the crisis. I don't want to loose her though. What am i supposse to do to give her some confident? What's going on in the brain of thai lady? ( She is from the south ). I'm sure alot more guys experienced it. Anyhow she's not a bargirl, but a decent young lady.

    Bart.

    Bart,

I agree what many have said in response to your post. You need to get to know her better. Vist her often, take her on trips, chat and call when you are back in your country. Maybe the problem is you dont know or trust each other enough. Maybe, your lack of confidence has her worried about her future and security. I know, it worked for us.

    Take care!

    :)

  14. Surprised at how many posters are anti-social. When two people are approaching each other from 100 yards, with no one else around, it is very normal to at least acknowledge the presence of other person with a smile or nod! This is especially true if they were on a trail or in a remote area--the ethnicity of the other shouldnt matter. :D

The only time I see people intentionally avoid someone is if, that someone is begging, selling somethig, or handing out religious material. :)
