Out of interest, what did they charge for the job?

They just unblocked our drains/a toilet and charged 1500B. Not especially cheap (they weren't here that long) but happy to pay that to get things sorted.

Will be interesting to see how these 560,000 doses get divvied up...between the TRC and TPH.

Private hospitals are said to be expecting 227,000 (227 hospitals with 10,000 doses), while the Thai Red Cross will get the remainder.

Any struggle would favor the the TRC which is essentially part of the government.

227 x 10k doses is actually 2.27 million so it will indeed be interesting to see how the initial 560k doses are dished out.

Now that's interesting, this Thai language notice was posted by @thaitero13 hours ago, according to TVF time stamp, or around 20:00-21:00 yesterday evening.

FB says that the English language post was only added to the BHP page 8 hours ago, or around midnight or a bit later.

It seems the hospital gave the Thais a 5 or 6 hours start over the English speakers. No wonder so few of us managed to make a booking before it ran out.

You are correct that it wasn't on their FB page around 8.30pm last night when I looked unless I somehow missed it. However, it was on their website under Packages and Promotions.

I was extremely fortunate as I went to their site looking for health check up packages around 8.20 last night and thus stumbled upon the Moderna notice.

I put 'her indoors' on the case and she said it would open at midnight. So we waited up, fully expecting the whole thing to crash and be the usual dog's breakfast. To my/our surprise it went live on time and everything worked. We managed to book and pay for the two of us.

Now when BPH will see any vaccines is another matter and it's entirely possible we'll get a 'sorry, no have' message and maybe a refund at some point but there is at least some hope for the fortunate few.

I'd be more than a little peeved if, as it appears, having promised to put things on their FB page when they had news they did so for the Thai language page several hours ahead of the English language version.

  4. I have a friend who lives in East Pattaya, on the East side of Mabprachan lake and about 0.5km off Siam Country Club road.

He's not a huge internet user, mostly just checking emails. However, occasionally he needs reasonable speed so dial up isn't a sensible option. He has tried IPstar with predictable results.

He asked my thoughts and I suggested CAT's Hi-net if he had coverage. I use it here in the Pratumnak area and find it very good but he's been told by them that there is no coverage in his area.

I'm sure there are a lot of guys using this forum that live in the area - what would you recommend as his best available ADSL option given his location? His phone line is TOT.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Greg/dr Pat Pong,

    Many thanks for your help/suggestions.

I note what you say Greg and will take you up on your kind offer and email you a little closer to the time. I have two properties on the market here at the moment and need to be around to supervise their sale. Once I have found buyers and the legal process is underway I will be in touch with you. Hopefully it won't be too long as the market remains fairly buoyant.

Once again, thanks very much guys for shedding some light on matters !

    Regards

    Stan

    * Buying a condominium unit/s from the owner according to the price registered with the Department of Lands. ( Must be approved before hand)

This interested me and I certainly hadn't heard of it before. As I planned to buy a condo (up to about 5M) then this seems the way to go and I will investigate further. It was my intention to rent for 6 months initially, giving me plenty of time to find the right place. This I could still do whilst doing monthly visa runs, then return to the UK and apply for a longer tourist visa before returning and purchasing the condo I have decided upon.

However, do you know what is the longest tourist visa I can apply for in my home country that is likely to be granted ? I believe that I can apply for a 60 day visa which is renewable for a further 30 days. Is this the best option or is there another (maybe 6 month validity) that is automatically granted ?

Thanks again for your help - 'tis a minefield !!

  7. Hi all,

I'm more than a little confused regarding availability of and/or qualification rules for the 1 year "O" type visa. I have trawled through pages of info here and there appears to be conflicting advice for people who fall into the same category. Some state that it is possible, some say they have been granted one and others intimate that they are simply unavailable for anyone who falls into the category that I do.

    Which is :-

Single male, aged 47, UK national with no Thai dependants, relatives.

No plans to work or study in Thailand, or do much other than play golf !

No Thai bank account at present but I could easily open one before applying and deposit whatever is required if that helped.

What I attempting to do is circumvent monthly visa runs for the next 2.5 years (until I will qualify for a retirement visa) if at all possible. Even a 6 month visa, which I also read is possible if applied for in one's home country, would be a start although clearly not as good as a 12 month multiple entry one.

Could anyone give a definitive answer (if one exists :o ) ??

    Any help/suggestions much appreciated.
