In past years I have always obtained a double entry tourist visa at the consulate in New York and then stayed for four months with a Cambodia visa run in the middle. With the new rules will this be possible this October through January? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Ray. I will give Harry a try. I am definetly looking for a non-touristy place to relax and enjoy the country for a month or so while my girlfriend gets to spend time with her family. The internet is crucial for me to keep in touch with my business back home so I hope the cafes are open all hours.

Hello all. My girlfriend has a strong desire to spend a month or 2 in Udon close to her family. I imagine we could get a nice apartment or house there for 10000 baht a month, is that true? Would a phone line for internet access be possible? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I am considering going there instead of Penang to apply for a 60 day tourist visa.

Hello again everyone. I had planned to make my visa trip to Penang but I can get a very cheap ticket to Singapore and as I have never been there I am considering going there instead of Penang to apply for a 60 day tourist visa. I have some questions that I hope you all won't mind answering.
Is the embassy in Singapore as easy and quick to issue visas as Penang? Is there any documentation other than my passport and photos I will need to show? If anyone has done this trip before and can give advice on getting to the embassy and a nice clean cheap hotel I would love to hear about it.
Thanks in advance

Hello everyone. I have some questions I hope you all can answer. I am here on a 30 day tourist visa and I am planning on going to Penang and apply for a 60 day visa. My questions are:
What time does the visa office there close for applications?
How long will it take to get the visa?
Any nice budget hotels anyone can recommend close to consulate?
Thanks in advance for any hep

Well mrnmp, I may have my facts wrong. I understood the AIS plan to be unlimited for 1200 baht a month. The DTAC plan I saw was for unlimited at 999 per month.

Hello again all. If possible could anyone here that uses either AIS or DTAC wireless internet do the McAfee speed check? I am curious about what type of speeds you get. Here is the url:

Thanks,

Hello all. I see that there is a promotion for DTAC unlimited wireless internet at 999 baht per month for 12 months. That is a much better deal than AIS. Is there anyone here that uses DTAC for wireless internet? If so, how is the quality and speed? Is DTAC available everywhere or only Bangkok and Pattaya area?
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for all the advice. Pattaya is out, I stayed there for 1 month before and that is not the life for me. I just want to try Chiang Mai for a month or so before I go to probably Krabi or some other place in the south. I guess I will try to find a nice apartment near a cafe with good high speed connections. If anyone has a particular internet place they can recommend I would like to hear about it.
Thanks,
Rob

I figured that would be the situation. How much do the cafes that have high speed connections charge up there? Are they open 24 hours?
Thanks,
Rob

Sorry Cute. I lived in Pratunam for a year and there are no 24 hour places. The one across the street from The Indra Hotel opens the earliest in the morning around 8 AM I think and they all close by midnight in that area. If you need one at other hours there are plenty of 24 hour places in the Nana Sukhumvit area but they are grossly overpriced.
In Pratunam on Soi Wattanwong, that is the soi that goes from the Indra to Bangkok Palace Hotel, there are very cheap high speed cafes. That is a wonderful neighborhood if you are looking for an apartment in Pratunam.

Hello all. I am currently back home in the US after living the past couple of years on and off in Bangkok. I am lucky enough to run my business via the internet with a trip back to the US every 6 months or so. Anyway when I return to Thailand after Songkran I was hoping to stay somewhere other than Bangkok. I had thought about staying near a beach somewhere down south and probably will eventually but I have been thinking that I might like to give Chang Mai a try.
I have never been there so I have a couple of questions. Is it possible to get a nice clean apartment there for a couple of months for less than 8000 a month? I do have a requirement of having internet so I was wondering if the apartments there have DSL available?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Rob

Hello. I often see an ad claiming dsl speed for dialup connections. I guess they have some kind of proxy server and compression scheme. Has anyone ever tried this in Thailand and does it really work?
Retirement Visa Question
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Hello all. I hope some of you retired farang experts can answer this question. I plan on moving to Thailand within the next year permanently as I will turn 50 soon. I will go the 800,000 baht in a Thai bank route. As I would rather get interest on that money in my US trading accounts is it acceptable to transfer the cash into a Thai account every year about three months before applying for the visa and then transfer it back after getting your stamp? Any help on how you all handle this would be appreciated.
